Funny to read that half the people here think this is too pro palestine, then the other half think its pro Israel. I think Wired did a good job at making a balanced documentary.
lol and how much innovation coming from that 30% Muslims compared to the 0.1%? ignoring the incorrectness of the numbers and the fact that the video about Israel and not about jews
Fucking wicked, Ive been waiting for Wired to release this for ages. Well worth the wait. Can't wait for the next few episodes. Makes me want to travel in Israel/Palestine again.
After the brilliant first part ( Shenzen ) the expectation was too high. this episode disappointed me in terms of quality of video & narration. hope to see it improve over the coming 4 episodes.
Very interesting. However, with the recent plans of annexing large parts of the west bank. I think the political landscape will only make it harder for palestinians to be able to run a startup.
well in that case, they would simply be arab israeli's. Which in some ways will make it easier. Functionally it isn't very different. However I wouldn't count on annexation any time soon.
Berkan Çakır there is no such a plan. it's like to say that Muslims have a plan to make the world 100% Dar al islam so that make it difficult for none Muslims to invest
Israel isn't about hope, oppression, or ambition, it's about all three. Things aren't black and white, and one should commend Israelis in the same breath as one condemns them.
feel like this video cheapen the reality of what is going on, the biggest factor of innovation is free of thought. you try that under the pressure of political power between 2 faction.
in Islam it is generally forbidden to marry out of the faith for women. sorry bud edit: you are right of course, not all Arabs are Muslim. I was making a loose generalization, shame on me
Hmm.... I always thought it was the same thing. Went to read the wiki article about it, now just more confused. Are the israelis squatting or are the palestinians squatting ?
It was territory that belonged to the Turkish Ottoman empire. And if it wasn't for Israel, other countries in the region would be fighting for the land. Saudi Arabia would love access to the Mediterranean sea. Awkward for Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Turkey. But look, foreigners with computers! Who wants to talk geopolitics when Americans need more start-ups for investments? This is so Bloomberg.
With the Roman invasion of the area, many of the indiginous Jews were forced to flee the country. Most made their way into central Europe or other Arab countries. The Palestinians stayed and occupied most of the good agricultural land and sea port communities. Biblically the Jews have always claimed the city of Jerusalem and pockets of other areas -- Judea and Samera as most of the area that is now called West Bank. In the early 1900's the land that was called Palestine, from the Jordan River to the Med Sea, bordering on Syria and Egypt was 90% occupied by Palestinian Muslim Arabs, with a few Christians (mostly in Bethlehem). Unfortunately, under the Ottoman Empire, most of the land was owned by rich Arabs and farmed by poor Arabs, thus it became easy for the early Israeli Zionist Jews to buy the land, Still they were largely outnumbered by the Palestinian people. It was only after WWI with the influx of more Jews that fighting started to break out between the two groups. From there it just escalated. Look at it this way -- most Americans are "squatting" on Native American land which was also the best land, because even the Natives took advantage of what Mother Nature had to offer. So who is squatting? Present day Palestine/Israel never belonged to either group as such, despite the supposed promise made by Abraham, who is probably a fictictious character made up as most of the early gods or deities were. If Jews are as smart as they think they are, they would wake up to the fact that the history they have as a people is no different that that of early Asiatics, or early North American Indians, or early Australian Aboriginees. They simply think that theirs is the only true god.
What a shame Wired....what could have been a fantastic and informative documentary on the Start-Up Nation (which it was for the most part) was sadly Hi-jacked and politicised by a false narrative of of constant references to the "occupation" by the Palestinian Interviewees. Sadly, the narrator/Editor is either a little naive (or possibly biased) to allow those moment to spoil a brilliant documentary. I very much doubt that many of the willing interviewees would have been willing to participate knowing that Wired would include such content and references. What a shame...could have been so good. (Would love to watch an edited/corrected version that leaves the politics statements aside)
Did Israel fund this? Are they really trying to redefine/rebrand themselves as a 'startup nation'? Lmaoo. Ppl really eating this shit up? Gta give it 2 Israel 4 being ' innovative' 4 using the high tech optimism 2 put a new fancy glove over their blood soaked hands. That said I hope the next part shows more of the Palestinians from different t classes, not just the successful ones. Very sneaky work or just bad editing from wired. A disappointment especially after the Shenzhen ep
this series keeps getting better and better..
They only made 2 episodes:)
There's actually going to be five... the first three are already live.
Part four next will go live next Tuesday March 7th.

Question - video time 5:27 'Israel is second only to Silicon Valley in terms of startup and vc investmen...' - where is China on this scale?

Daniel Cuevas true
Then called Palestine ? wow ...
Palestine was the (European) name of the region before the establishment of Israel. Today the State of Palestine is only the West Bank and Gaza.
Hmm.... I always thought it was the same thing. Went to read the wiki article about it, now just more confused.
Are the israelis squatting or are the palestinians squatting ?
Nobody is squatting because no state existed in Palestine before the establishment of Israel.
It was territory that belonged to the Turkish Ottoman empire.
