Beautiful repair job, Trena! You even make hardware, wow! I'm sure there are a lot of memories in that shop, and it must be hard to say goodbye. Hope the next chapter will be just as memorable and even better for all of you!
You had me at "I Made my own Hardware." It's not always easy, but I have to tell my customers sometimes that they may need to improvise. I love the pics of your father and the one with you and your father. My father is also John. I miss him every day, and I see him as a cardinal at my bird feeder laughing at me, and my brother, running his hardware store. And dealing with the chaos and joy that comes with this business. Thanks again for another wonderful video!
You made the piece sing Trena! Those little fiddly neoprene bits were masterfully carved. The set looks gorgeous. I'm looking forward to seeing your new shop. I hope that the final bits of the move-in and the set-up are as easy as possible. May you and your dad use the new shop in good health! Best, Angela
May I offer my observation that the white plastic material used was either polyethylene or more likely nylon but not neoprene., which is rubber like. UHMW PE and Nylon are used for wear surfaces while neoprene (aka synthetic rubber) is commonly used for high heat and high pressure gaskets, like O-Rings. (Another product, while I'm at it, is polyurethane sheets, which we used to use to line grain chutes at the elevator due to its high abrasion resistance. Polyurethane material is also very elastic and is used to make polyurethane springs, which I have used in place of steel compression springs.
Yup…neoprene is used to make scuba suits. There are zillions of plastics, many with their own trade name like Delrin…. I’m here to watch the excellent wood refinishing!…not to nitpick…(sorry)
Ahh, if all the memories in that shop could be captured for posterity. The lovely work, a daughter in training, and a reunion in sorts at the end with a few more pieces done side-by-side. It doesn't get any better than that. I'll look forward to you in your new shop!
I love watching you work! Fact that you’re making these latex/plastic pieces is wonderful. They look exactly like the curtain hangers used here when the rail is inserted into a piece of wood or metal and run along that groove. They are as rare as hen’s teeth here now. I had to give up using them as there weren’t enough for the curtains I was hanging. I have moved now or I would have sent you my residual stash. You have done as usual, a very beautiful job. Thank you. Look forward to seeing you in your garage and eventually your new work shop . I hope your move goes well!
Thanks for sharing another beautiful restoration. I swear a relative had a piece with similar hardware-I have a fuzzy memory of being scolded for playing with the doors. Your client should also be congratulated for seeing the beauty in their old set. Well worth it!
Your videos inspired me to have a tattered, old piece of living room furniture refurbished rather than replaced since we like it. I’m in the process of searching for a local shop to do the work. I hope I find someone that is at least half as good as you are. You are the best!
Yet another beautiful MCM restoration. Lovely poignent moment saying goodbye to your Dad's shop, but knowing that he's shared all his skills and knowledge with you about how to restore heirlooms for the next generations. There is something really wonderful in that. Eager to see the next shop, even if temporary, cause I recognize progress! Very cool to see Woodworkers of America sponsoring this video. Keep on growing!
Trena, you deserve a manicure 🤣 You give so much to your work, remember to also give to yourself ❤. I am in no way shaming, but I can tell you like your nails ( as do I ) Love from Ireland.
As soon as I saw the piece, I was already anxious to see the completed project. Your reputation for excellence precedes you. This project was no different. The final result is stunning!
Those cracks in the bottom of the case show the importance of taking things apart. The anti tarnish cloth for the silverware is such a nice touch in the top of this buffet! I took advantage of the offer, and was delighted to see i could send my brother a guest membership to enjoy it with me.
Very nice Trena! My Dad had a milling machine and a metal lathe. Other than electrical components, we made about 60% of replacement parts for our projects. Very satisfying. Good luck in the new location and God bless your Dad.
The gliders look like small plastic things we used to hang the curtains in the metal “pole”. They were called Kirsch. Maybe they were made in the 50-60-ties like the sideboard?
Is there no end to your talents Trena?! You did an awesome job on those neoprene bits and got that cabinet looking tip top agin 😍👏🤩 Good luck with the final bit of the move, looking forward to seeing the new shop!
Oh Trena, what a huge moment for you and your Dad! I know it's just "stuff", "bricks and mortar" ...but the space itself is imbued with a thousand memories for both of you. I hope you give the shop a 'farewell party' to thank it for it's services over the years, a final happy memory🥂. My strength to you Trena as you move through another big life event, more power to ya🤗💪
Please could you share the story with us of why you are moving to another shop twice? Or did you already and have I missed it 🫣. Greetings from the Netherlands 👋🇳🇱
I appreciated listening to explain how you think about restoring your pieces. Time just keeps moving on...sad to see the original shop close the doors, but the spirit and knowledge live on! Best wishes to you all!!!
My goodness Trena you even carved the neoprene runners?? And another move, you know I believe nothing is by chance, a new chapter starting with plenty of hope, and no matter what if family ties are neat and strong that what matters. Good luck and may the nee shop brings many joy and success and good videos for us 😂.
Fantastic repair as always Trine. I also think it's a fantastic piece of furniture. In my country, it is exclusively teak from the 60s that is popular. But I definitely think this piece of furniture also has something about it that should make it popular. Another move. I also think you’ll miss the place were you taught everything from your daddy 🥲
I look forward to your videos, from the explanations, the talent paired with the perfect music. I hope you take us along on the build. And I hope to see more cameos of your dad!
Again, not my favorite furniture style, but you made it too beautiful not to love the results.🥰 NICE rescue of the hardware!👏 Interior clean up looks great too. Can't wait to see the new shop.
Hi Trena I just wanted to let you know that the material you made the new guides is Delrin and not neoprene. Neoprene is a man-made rubber. I really like what you do and I have learned a lot watching your videos.
Your videos are always a joy to watch. I actually really like this type of furniture now, as a kid I didn't. It must be because I'm getting older and more sentimental. But I don't mind. 🙂
Thanks for demonstrating that it is possible to custom mill replacement parts. There is no way to order OEM parts. It takes time and ingenuity to make replacements. In the end it is the solution to the problem.
Those neoprene glides were actually from the curtain industry.the upper one was for very lightweight curtains😢 and the Lower one was adapted to glide in a neoprene bottom track. While not common today, it can show the usefulness of 3D printing, as trying to find 60 year old hardware is almost impossible.
It looks very plain and simple, but its simplicity is what makes it so beautiful. I love it and, as usual, you have made a perfect job of revamping it xx
Bendiciones.
Sorry I missed this one when it came out, was in Hospital having a procedure never mind at least I'm fixed which was ordered important, lovely piece of furniture, so useful. You're an absolute genius, not only with how finish a piece of work but how you work out how to resolve issues as well. 👍
The sideboard is a magnificent complement to the table and chairs you refinished last video. What a wonderful furniture suite this is and I know it's your preferred style Trenna. Good wishes for your shop move..and we'll see you soon. 💖✨️👋
Awe, the last piece done in Dad’s shop. 😕 Two videos a saying goodbye to your workshops. Will dad be joining you at the new shop? Great job on the buffet, as always.
Great job on the manufacture of the guides . most of today's society would have no clue as to making something like that. it's a lost art . Good on you ! Looking forward to the new shop! You were calling that neoprene , but that's like a rubber. I think you were working with nylon or delrin or something like that 😁

Great job! That white plastic stuff you made those runners from is I think extruded nylon. Neoprene is a rubber like substance that wet suits are made from.

To be fair, this sounds like a polite correction and sharing of information, rather than a “gotcha”. Trena is a pro. I think she can handle it. ;)

neoprene is a rubber typically black. used for o rings and wet suits. A hard wearing plastic tends to be nylon or HDPE.
Yes sorry wrong word

Wow, Trena! This is a gorgeous piece! You did an awesome job on this restoration and refinishing. WELL DONE!❤

Thank you and your father for your preservation of beauty.
Great work! BTW the material is Nylon rather than Neopreen. Neopreen is a foam rubber used in waders and spark plug socket wrenches.
Yes wrong word sorry

I’m going to take a look for sure!
That is amazing job making the hardware and so beautiful finish stay safe out there and God Bless your family

Very cool!
What a superb transformation. Thanks Trena (and John!)
Beautiful refurb. Moving is sad, but new beginnings are always worth it!!
So true!
WOW
That material on the slides is delrin or nylon, neoprene is an uncured rubber.
Yep wrong word
Stunning👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The cloth is not just a dust cover, it is silver cloth, specially treated to keep your sterling silverware from tarnishing.
Oh! Very cool
Interesting approach.
I would go for a 3D printed part.
But you made an excellent job with the available material.
I had one for a while but the programming was soooo time consuming. I could have made 19 of these in the time it took to get a good scan and print and cleanup. They are only really worth it if you are making 100’s
