Normally artists apply to Coachella for consideration. The founder of Coachella flew to S. Korea to personally invite them to perform. He's a big fan and wanted to meet the group! This April they are performing again at Coachella, this time as Headliners!

Yes, they allow some new artists to perform, but their names are usually not mentioned in the line-up. One k-pop girl group, which claimed to be first one to be invited while their name was not on line-up. That too by their official account!!!!
While blackpink was the second liner,
Which means they got paid just under headlining fee and performed for an hour, but never boasted about it.
Even blackpink main account didn't mention that they are the first asian act to headline Coachella.
There is difference between true legends and wannabe. From that day I stopped listening to that group, fans cay say anything but official account!!!

I'd like to give credits to Epik High for recommending Blackpink to the ceo/founder. They were the first korean group (not kpop) to perform, and the ceo wanted a recommendation for them , so Epik High recommended bp to him. Which is quite sad cuz blinks were bashing him on his instagram just because they were the first "korean" group and not bp :(
(Epik High used to be in YG wayyyyyy before bp existed or were even trainees at yg)

As you mentioned, they have such a swag persona onstage but in reality they're just sweet, humble girls who are very relatable. That's one of the main reasons I love them, they don't act like many Western artists, who act like they're too cool to acknowledge their fans.

Teddy Park, their writer/producer, grew up in New York and California before moving to South Korea. As he was fluent in English and had a good sense of Western hip hop he had a knack for blending Korean and English smoothly.

their genuine family like friendship is rare thing in k-pop
especially in girl groups is one of the reasons why they are so popular . When people dive deep into Blackpink world , they will see that they are not just colleagues from work but actually a family.
    For example:
One time Lisa was on survival show alone without her members and Jisoo decided to send her a letter with photo with two of them to cheer her up. As soon as Lisa saw this photo she started crying . Every Blink knows this video

That’s one thing I love about Blackpink is the fact that they use a live band for their concerts instead of a track. I saw them in Chicago at the day 1 concert last November 10th. It was the best concert ever. Actually it’s a YG artist’s thing. I also saw G-Dragon in concert in 2017 and he also had a live band. It makes a huge difference and not many K-pop groups do that.

In kpop, 25 is actually late. Trainees start very young and debut by 20 or a little over that but not later. Its been like that for many.
As for BP's songs, yes TEDDY writes/produces majority of their songs but all the members also co-produce and co-write their songs. Some credited and some not (which is another story). They are very talented girls and they are phenomenal live 🔥
BP takes a lot of time to release albums compared to other groups. Their "break" are what we call "hiatus". The last one they had was almost for 2 years thats why fans also demand by then, as you can imagine, until they released their recent album BORN PINK.

  • @synnreal04
    @synnreal04 ปีที่แล้ว +28

The lights you noticed during their concert are called "lightsticks". Every kpop group has a distinct design. BLACKPINK is designed like a hammer with hearts on two ends and work with bluetooth to light up (mainly in pink) but can change colors along with the music. They are brought everywhere by fans and separates you from other fans of other groups 💖

  • @NoelMcGinnis
    @NoelMcGinnis ปีที่แล้ว +6

Also, the fans do love their music, but it’s the girls themselves that we have really fallen in love with. Like you said, the girls are just themselves. They are kind, generous, humble, and sweet. If you passed them in public you would never know they were megastars. They dress amazing, and they are insanely beautiful, so that makes them stand out, but they have never acted like the rich and famous girls that they are. Getting to know them personally is what really ropes the fans in. They are truly amazing.

@@Orgil0122 From the KOREA TIMES, February 26:
Fine dust level soars to worst this winter
Seoul is covered with fine dust, Jan. 7. Yonhap
Air quality in Korea reached its worst level this winter Saturday due to high levels of fine and "yellow" dust, according to the weather authorities.
As of 10 a.m., the daily average concentration of ultrafine dust particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers in diameter, known as PM2.5, was 86 micrograms per cubic meter, while that of fine dust known as PM10 was 143 micrograms per cubic meter nationwide, said Air Korea that is run by the environment ministry.
These figures were much higher than the yearly average concentration of ultrafine and fine dust in 2021 ― 18 and 36 micrograms per cubic meter, respectively.
The weather authorities have issued an ultrafine dust advisory in all areas except for the southern resort island of Jeju, and a fine dust advisory in Gyeonggi Province that surrounds Seoul, and the central Chungcheong, and South Jeolla and South Gyeongsang provinces.
As of 5 p.m. Friday, a yellow dust warning has been in effect in the South Chungcheong and Jeolla provinces, the southwestern city of Gwangju and Jeju Island.
On Sunday, the fine dust level is also expected to be "bad" across most parts of the country, including the greater Seoul area and Gangwon Province in the east.
The Korea Meteorological Administration categorizes concentrations of fine dust between 81 and 150 micrograms as "bad" and more than 151 as "very bad."
The authorities have advised people to refrain from leaving their homes on such days and to wear a face mask if they have to go outside. (Yonhap)

Thank you very much, I really enjoyed watching this whole wonderful movie with you) This is the first Blackpink documentary and the first original Netflix project related to Korean music. 2.5 years have passed since the release of this film and during this time Blackpink has become many times more popular, released several albums, as well as solo songs of the participants, which, by the way, broke many records (including Guinness records) for listening, viewing and album sales. All members of the group except Jisoo have solo songs, her solo album is expected to be released in April 2023. But Jisoo made her debut at this time, as did the lead actress in the Korean drama Snowdrop. The girls are currently on the "Born Pink" world tour, and this tour is much larger than their first world tour (it is predicted to be the biggest tour by a female artist in history). Since the film's release, they have become the most subscribed artists on TH-cam in the world, as well as the world's first musical group, all members of which are not just representatives or partners, but global ambassadors of luxury brands - Blackpink have become literally trendsetters all over the world. It also became known that in 2023 Blackpink will headline Coachella (the first Korean artists in history to achieve this). You can list everything that these modest, hardworking and cheerful girls have achieved along the way, but I want to say one thing, Blackpink is a phenomenon and an exception to all the rules - despite all the achievements, they are still growing at an incredible rate, and I am happy that I am their contemporary and can be their fan. Thank you for your attention, I apologize in advance for possible errors in the text, I used Google translator if I don’t speak English (but I’m also not Korean).

After seeing Light Up The Sky again in this reaction, it's surprising to me how much BabyMonsters journey is like BlackPink's. I mean BlackPink started out as Pink Punk, with 8 or 9 members and it was eventually whittled down to 4 members and the name change to BlackPink. Baby Monster has 7 members currently and they are going through final evaluations now because YG says they won't debut with 7 members. I'm wondering if he wants to make BM a four member group as well.

I don't think they intended to take the break they did. The world tour ended January 2020 and we all know what happened the next month to the entire world.
A global lock-down would probably knock anyone off their game and it took a while for them to recover and back into the groove. And then with the expectation that being "The biggest female group" carries, I'm sure they recorded a thousond songs before settling on the songs they felt would somewhat meetup to the expectations that come with that.

Good reaction video. Just FYI, YG's Trainee Program had something like 30 or 40 girls, all extremely talented. Over 5 years they whittled that down to 9 girls that they thought were going to comprise the group. Then over another year's time they narrowed it down to these 4. Also FYI, YG auditioned thousands of talented girls for their Trainee Program. In Thailand alone, they auditioned 4,000 teens, and only invited Lisa into their Trainee Program, the first non-Korean they had ever invited. In Australia, YG auditioned 700 girls, only Rosie was invited. Think NBA first round draft, that is how difficult it is to be selected and finally debut for a large successful company like YG. It is extremely physically and psychologically demanding, but no one is forced to stay as a Trainee, there are literally thousands of girls standing in line for that opportunity. YG's training program is extremely generous by kpop standards in that Trainee's are housed and fed, whereas most trainee programs the girls have to live at home and pay for their own meals, and since the companies are not as well financed as YG, there may be no debut due to financial constraints, and if you do debut, but don't make a splash right away your career may only last weeks. With the big 4 (YG, Hybe, SME and JYP) you are guaranteed a debut and at least a year run with the top producers, writers, and publicists supporting that group.

When they said blackpink said they're so different from other groups because that time.2016 era is where cute concept was a thing where blackpink bring girl crush vibe with a twist because they become a blueprint of newer generation from fashion to music style cause I remember before I don't hear any whole eng part specially in a rap song where mostly you can here jn today's kpop music. Blackpink pull that off during their rookie days. Don't get me wrong 2nd gen are iconic too but blackpink and bts bring a huge amount of kpop fans because they choose different way of pursuing their audience. Even they're not a blink If you ask them who introduce or first group they know or used to stan mostly it could be blackpink, exo, bts.
I remember watching so many reaction video on year 2016 and it's crazy because that's when they also started the standard in youtube higher streaming and other platforms. So yeah, kpopies now a days can't even respect blackpink amd bts because they're bigger and have so many fans they always compare to other group.

Jisoo was the only who grew up in South Korea so was the only one who didn’t speak English, she could speak it when this was made but wasn’t as confident when speaking it, she speaks English much more now.
It’s much easier to sing in English without actually speaking it, for example Celine Dion couldn’t speak English when she released her first English album she was just repeating words but didn’t really understand what they meant.
I love that Jisoo was called an ugly monkey by family members as a kid but now she’s the #1 fashion influencer in the world beating out Lisa and Rosè and Kim kardashian and she’s on the cover of Vogue and other fashion magazines.

And yeah I was surprised by that part where she was called ugly too.

As Kpop idols, the prime years of their careers are in their 20s. Most 3rd generation idols right now are in their mid to late 20s and 4th generation idols are in their late teens to early 20's.

Well that is same for idol from any country. Even in america, NSYNC, New kids on the block, Backstreet boys. Their prime was in their 20's. In japan or european boy, girl group all lose fans when they enter 30's. Most of european boy, girl group seperate and go solo before they turn 30.

41:51 to answer your question, when she says she doesn’t know if her opinion is right: it comes from a place of insecurity, she doesn’t know if the lyric she wrote is any good or if a melody sounds right, etc., because she loves music so much she has the sense of wanting to do it right but at that time she was still very scared of that vulnerability

This Docu was actually right before they released their first "Full" studio album(around spring 2020 they released the song with lady gaga, thats the time when this docu probably was filmed/finished filming. then they released the song "How you like that" in summer that broke 5 guinness world records, followed by the collaboration with selena gomez and then the release of their full album in october 2020).
THAT time they REALLY blew off and became most subbed artist on youtube, most followed female group on spotify and so on.
what people refering to with "having a break" is probably the year 2021 when they didnt release any new group songs.. BUT they didnt really have a break from work.
Rosé and Lisa released their solo single albums in 2021(they also broke tons of records with that. Lisas solo song for example is the most viewed song by a solo act in history with over 73.6 million views. breaking tailor swifts records). Jisoo was also acting/filming for ther first lead role in a K-Drama series that time. they also had a "Online concert" (Blackpink The Show) and also released a Cinema movie (Blackpink the movie. its basically alot of their concerts and moments brought to the big screen) in 2021. so they were still busy and booked.
Now in 2022 they just keep reaching new heights again. their newest album "Born pink" just became one of the top10 best selling Albums of 2022 on the IFPI Charts. And the Second best selling female album of 2022 right behind tailor swift(midnights).
Right now since october 2022 till june 2023 they are on the "Born pink" worldtour. its about to become the highest grossing girlgroup worltour of all time ( estimated 1.5m tickets and 200m$ gross).
In april they will HEADLINE choachella as the first kpop and asian act ever.

Rosé must be so afraid back then and doesn't know if her opinions were right bec she has nobody to share her opinions with.. she's used to have her members by her side and there are too much expections from them..As solo artist and as a group.. As Blackpink, fans and other people are expecting to surpass their previous comeback coz they sets the bar too high in every comeback..even their own haters are scrutinizing their every moves, songs, lyrics, mv, literally everything just to throw something at them. And as a solo artist, Jennie had an incredible solo debut in 2018 and people were expecting Rosé to be next and people was waiting for Ros's solo debut for 3 years and she must be so pressured that time..if she will even meet the expections of other people or if blinks will like it. But based on her interviews after she released her solo she enjoyed the process.. she's the creative director, song writer, graphics designer and director of her own solo

To answer your question.. they have thousands of girls audition. Only a select few actually pass & get to train at YG ent. In this case, YG was planning to make a big girl group so I’d imagine they had over 20+ girls actually training. They got it down to 9 girls & blackpink we’re almost going to debut as a 9 piece, but ultimately YG himself found these 4 to be a perfect group. So they debuted them. The others all get sent home. Years of training to get sent home, which is very sad. 😭

I feel just the same as Rosé, and to be honest I think it is the fact that you do something but you’re scared to not be doing it right , obviously my surroundings would always tell me it’s a self confidence problem, where you feel you want to do it and you just do it and then you find yourself hesitating like "oh is this okay?" "Will this do it?" You just obviously is delivered to yourself and it is like standing infront of a mirror where you have only yourself and no one else and then you face yourself….
I don’t know… but it just take time to go away but it’s deep inside, i sometimes do things and then just become hesitant 😭

And also, please react to her Lili Film (her personal youtube channel dedicated to her BLINKS). she is gorgeous dancer. You can clearly see it and many other professional dancers praise her. She is the stage eater. Other members become confident when Lisa execute everything in professional way. Like she is the constant mood maker.
Fact is that they are very humble and down to earth even they are famous now. Because they know where they started,.

Too much to say. But they are MUCH bigger now than what is shown in this documentary.
They are still in the midst of their world tour right now, with more cities, bigger stadiums, and Many added shows as their tickets get snapped up within minutes of launch.
Beyond that, their individual commercial successes is staggering. too much to mention.
Hope you can continue to discover them.
Their music has evolved constantly over the years, and perhaps it is a good idea to work backwards, starting with their most recent album.

Hello, loved your reactions and exploration. Please react to Lisa's documentary.
And if you need more behind the scenes please do their old MVs and their making the MV videos relatively.
Furthermore, please react to their older songs such as:
    Kill this love
    Du ddu du ddu
    How you like that
    Lovesick girls.
Additionally, they perform live really well because they trained quite long to become professionals.
Best of all time is Tokyo Dome concert. This is considered "iconic". FYI, they sing in Japanese language when they do concerts in Japan exclusively.
    Thank you and goodluck.
