If Sam Lalor is available at the Saints pick we will pick him
Very well could do
Crows selecting Draper over Sullivan isn’t just about local vs interstate, they’re equally talented but have different attributes, Draper possesses elite speed and explosiveness which is what crows are lacking in their midfield, it’s just a bonus he is local.
Two different attributes I agree, I get Croweaters upset when I don't automatically lock the local
@@daztalksfooty think about the current midfield mix, they’ve got Dawson as the big bodied mid with a great leg, crouch the tough inside bull with a good first touch, what they’re missing in that main midfield mix is speed and explosiveness. It’s why the midfield looks so much better when rankine is in there. Draper fits those attributes better than any other in this draft crop and him coming into the team allows Rankine to play more forward. Soligo is a solid player and keeps improving but he isn’t as naturally gifted as Draper, him and Berry provide the 2 way running sulli brings tho. They’ve got plenty of aerial presence already so sulli being a good mark for a mid isn’t a major selling point either. I’m not worried about players leaving, they’ve got plenty of young Victorians that are all great mates signed on long term. Nank, Rachele, Berry, Soligo, Worrell, Sholl etc retention might’ve been an issue in the past but not in recent years. I just think Sid Draper is the way to go attribute wise for the way he will fit into the team 🤷♂️ and hey, a lot of people have him ranked pretty dang high, just have a look at the true footy TH-cam channel, massive eagles fan and he wants eagles to take him.
@matthewheyen1953 luckily it's all opinion I'm a Crows fan too the variables in this draft is insane ask Twomey he has Draper at pick 8 ask me he is pick 3 to the Eagles ask Daz and he is going to Richmond.
This is true for many other talented draftees and I think it comes down to what you perceive as the best footballer. Clubs like North and Crows know what they need for us it's explosiveness. We are sitting pretty good pick 4 and we will be able to select one of FOS Draper or Lalor where they rank on preferences is up to the individual.
Personally I agree Draper is best suited as a footy player FOS is the next guy then I'm taking Lalor is the Bont/Dusty alot of potential and has the build to be the best player of this draft but same can be said for everyone else it will be interesting.
@@carlocarbone2859 one of the most even drafts I’ve ever seen on talent, probably 10 players that could all go pick 1. I don’t mind taking smilie if they don’t get Draper, frees up Dawson to go back to defence, would mean rankine needs to keep playing more midfield though.
@matthewheyen1953 I don't know what it is with Smillie he is good and has potential but FOS just seems to be a better player in my eyes if we go for that taller player. Just my opinion but I think FOS has better vision and kicks to higher percentage areas just has the knack to get it to the right spots and you can't learn that sometimes. Only real knock to Smillie is his kick tbh if he had that down he would be No.1 and daylight.
As a big draft watcher, I'd love those two for West Coast
Mate, as a Saints fan, we're taking 2 mids with our picks. We have a bottom 4 midfield, why on earth do we need Berry when we can't even win clearances??? Lalor and Reid to us, Richmond can kick rocks
Could very well happen, Berry's an elite connection piece no matter where he goes
100% Reid & Lalor would be an amazing result for us .
@@garrymoss2079 I don’t like Murphy Reid as a fit for us, he can’t run. I’m not even sure if he actually projects as a full-time midfielder in the AFL. Our one-paced midfield needs speed and power, not more slow guys like Reid and Clark. But if we get him, I’ll trust our recruiters and hope for the best
@@TNT_12 I reckon the combine results will be interesting for all the mids in our pick range.
I see your concerns tho .
i would love to see jagger at west coast
Love it mate
Firetruck yeah!! Been checking TH-cam daily for new mock drafts!! Thank you very much Daz. I haven't even watched it yet and I'm commenting. I'm that excited 😂
Love it mate, thanks very much!
I dont know how accurate this is but I did hear a few months ago about Jobe Shanahan. Apparently Jobes manager reached out to other clubs asking to not get drafted there, he wants Essendon. Look im not sure if it is true or not but jeez if it's true, idk what to think tbh. Jobe is gonna be a freak. He is an aerialist which is perfect, he is also a big bodied too which is perfect aswell. Kako, Shanahan, Caddy and either gresh or guelfi together for the long term is very powerful once everyone is developed. Im confident Essendon will go out of the draft getting Jobe Shanahan, Isaac Kako and either Cooper Herbert (late late pick) or Matt Whitlock. Both forwards, both I personally predict will go late in the draft especially cooper as he isnt well known and Matt is just an Archie Roberts feeling where he will drop far into the draft for no apparent reason. Can't wait for the draft
Shanahan sleeps with the light on
@@spookavision people sleep with the light on with Shanahan around
Been waiting and waiting Daz. Finally I can breathe. I've been banging on for months that wc would hopefully take Langford, now he appears to be going up the board fast. Great work mate, one of the best in the business love ur work.
Would say that wc would take Bo Allan if he was available at 16 tho.
Love your work mate. Completely agree on taking Trainor, he's exactly what we need. Let's face it kangas fans, Luke McDonald ain't cutting it in the swingman role. Be good if we can get Trainor plus another pick, but it sounds like the teams that have multiple first-round picks are sending them elsewhere.
As a Tiger supporter I would be pretty happy with Langford, Armstrong and Lalor. Not sure who I prefer out of Draper and Reid. 2024 is stacked.
Would be pretty outstanding
I would take Reid for the simple fact that he is a Richmond supporter. We appear to be in this for the long run, better to take players that will stick around
@@DEADMEM3 100% Don’t want a player whinging in a few years that their wife wants to go home to Perth or Adelaide or wherever tf. Jagga, Langford, Trainor and Armstrong are still my dream 4. Need a bit of everything - defence, midfield, attack.
I quite like that, i bet you this is an unpopular opinion but I think your pretty much spot on!
Pick 1 and 4 could go either way, both teams would be happy with either of them prospects, I think as a tiger it’s hard to drive past jagga but if Harvey Langford dropped I wouldn’t be complaining as a west coast fan. I like where you are going with the pick 10 to saint kilda, Joe berry seems to make sense.
Bo Allan is a slider, I doubt the west coast would pass up on him at 16, but weirder stuff has happened.
Good stuff, enjoyed it 🫵👌
Thanks mate, as per usual it's all opinion and it'll be a fascinating watch
Thoughts on Richmond trading for Pick 2 from norf?
Don't mind the FOS pick for Adelaide most of our fans myself included would take Draper first option as he replaces Laird and Crouch but then again Lalor is that Dusty Bont type we have been wanting for a long time.
FOS will be like having another Dawson which I can get around.
Great work mate you should do a big broad that’s who are the top 30 best players are in your opinion from 1 to 30 would smash the views I reckon
Got something like that in mind for sure mate
MAKE CLUBS PAY!!! I'll scream it with you mate. Levi Ashcroft could definitely be a worthy bid at pick by North and as much as I want North taking Trainor in the draft, I just feel like we do in fact need a BIG Midfielder. The loss of TT hyrts at North and having a tall Midfielder that's either Langford or Smillie would make a whole lot of sense for what North need to polish up what they've got.
That said, here's my 4-club mega trade and how I'd like to see North approach the draft IF it in fact happened/s.
Richmond
Trade: Bolton, Baker and Rioli
Get: picks 2, 10 and 13 (MAYBE Lazzaro as a sweetener)
North
Trade: picks 2, 22 and MAYBE (Lazzaro as a sweetener)
Get: picks 6, 9 and 26
Freo
Trade: picks 9, 10 and 17
Get: Bolton, Baker and pick 20 (paying Bolton's contract in full)
Gold Coast Suns
Trade: picks 6, 13, 20 and 26
Get: Rioli, pick 17 and 22 (Richmond paying for half of Rioli's contract)
I wouldn't run it past any of the 4 clubs botching it because they want more than they can chew.
With a potential draft hand of 6, 9, 26, 40, 58 and 64 North could easily land 4-5 new recruits.
With that hand I'd like North to pick
- Luke Trainor (pick 6)
- Harry Armstrong or Jobe Shanahan (pick 9)
- Matt Whitlock or Thomas Sims (pick 26)
- and depending on where the bid falls we could select River Stevens.
That's potentially 1 key Defender, 2 key Forwards and a small forward filling out our list.
I dont mind the trades. But please use the DVI (Draft Value Index) 2 and 22 is worth 2362 points whereas 6, 9 and 26 is worth 3949. Meaning Lazzaro the sweetener is worth just shy of 1700 points which is equivalent to Pick 6-7 which is egregious. And thats just from a North perspective.
If you want to know the value of picks I recommend going to > Zerohanger > Draft Order and it shows the order and the value of every pick in the draft.
Understanding the value of picks really teaches you how trading is done between clubs, it’s better for how draft pick matching works, pick swaps and player value too. You’ll learn a lot by knowing the value of picks. ❤️
I think tigers will do a deal with lions there first round for the points as they will bid on him
Definitely would be on the cards and something to take into considerations as more trade options open up
Draper is local AND the type of player the crows actually need. Anybody who knows Adelaide's list profile knows they need speed, not more height, in the middle.
Because Barrass will eat up our 1st pick, I'm only interested in what's left at Pick 30 and beyond. Will Cooper Hynes, Jonty Faull, Hamish Davis, Archer Day-Wicks or Lachie Jacques get through to us, or fill our needs/wants?
All are a relative chance, ADW is the one who stands out that will probably be there
Disagree on North not needing another mid. As a north fan, we are in all sorts of trouble and need QUALITY PLAYERS. Our midfield STINKS and gets absolutely ran through by even mediocre opposition. We are in no position to pick and choose based on position at pick 2. If we trade down, sure then we have a conversation, but if we pick Luke trainor at 2 (who will only be a third tall/hbf) I will spew up!!
I didn't do pick swaps in this one (just trades) but I agree; North want to trade down but their guy is LT
I don’t agree that our midfield stinks. Just second to the ball a lot. Need a contested big bodied ball winner. We have the class, we’ve shown that with sheezel, ldu, mckercher, powell has shown his decision making can be great and Philips not getting a game even though his ball use is really good is a sign of this. These are all extremely classy. But the grunt work, that’s what lets us down. I do agree that we can’t be overly picky though, not in our position
The grunt work will be fine in a year or two. Sheezel, warlord and LDU are good contested players will be great.
If we don’t trade down. Best talent available. FOS and Jagga smith will help us in transition which we also suck at.
Once we become competitive we can start picking players for specefic positions or needs. For now pick the best player
I agree, the Roos need guys through the middle who can make basic 20m kicks and 3-5 m handballs every time whether under pressure or not.
Un-pressured turnovers and basic handling errors cost North so many times this year, they made it impossible to build momentum, get repeated inside 50s and made what was good structure behind the ball look ordinary as teams ran the other way from favourable positions.
They need to pick the midfielders with the cleanest ball handling and best disposal possible.
I don't know enough about the current crop of draftees to know who that is, but that has to be the aim.
@@masonfeltham6278 as a non north fan that’s a weird take, ldu is elite, Sheezel is elite, wardlaw has elite potential. Powell solid role player, Phillips decent potential, stephens has decent potential on the ball. Mckercher could easily make the move to the midfield and would be elite. They’re just young and get bullied by tougher more seasoned midfields. In 2 years time they’ll be a top midfield of the comp imo
As a Richmond fan I’m really hoping we end up taking Jagga Smith at pick 1 and I see Eagles taking Josh Smillie at Pick 4
Its gonna be an interesting trade period. Especially with draft picks.
I think Hawks trade Pick 12, Coll 2nd pick for TB
Do you think Eagles should get somebody like an O'Farrell with Pick 12 as it would seem theyd need a key defender to replace TB. Why not now while they're rebuilding.
I think Sam Lalor to the Saints makes the most sense to me. I see your argument about Berry and how Saints need to score, but Lalor if he's there and you're the saints, surely you take Lalor
I agree on the TB trade. I think the Eagles will be dependent on how much faith they have in Rhett Bazzo and Luke Edwards
If Richmond end up with a glut of 1st round picks, as expected, as a North fan, I would trade our second pick, for 2 of the top 10 picks Richmond could receive (For example, pick 6 and one of picks 9 or 10) this would give Richmond the first 2 selections in the draft plus another top 10 pick, not taking into account academy bids and St Kilda's likely band 1Josh Battle's Compo pick
Love it in every way
6 and 9 for 2, I doubt it considering top 10 is even. Your second round would need to come back if the case.
Cooper Hynes is seriously underrated, he's averaging basically the same numbers as Langford at the same team, he's the same size as well. surprised he isn't in top 10 discussions
Mate he is I've loved him. Very stiff to miss
@daztalksfooty I have a list of guys who i reckon are underrated, I think as the sports science and fitness improves, as well as these junior leagues getting better funding, that each draft is a little bit better than the last, there are guys who could go past pick 40 who will be stars. also this year has had a clean run since the u16s, they didn't get as screwed by covid and so on.
some of the others include Geordie Payne, Harry Dodson, Kade Herbert, Hamis Davis, cody Anderson.
@@anappropriatehandle Geordie Payne went in the mid season draft
@user-pf1sp3bz7l aahhahaha, ok that explains why I couldn't find any of his games in the second half of the year.
I like travaglia for Carlton another guys who looks good is gross I’m kind of interested in getting 2 picks inside the comporeales if we loose this weekend
Rate it highly
If the saints take fkn Joe Berry at pick 8 I’ll spew all over myself. This is an absolute miss by you daz
Today being 5th of September say that wce will give Richmond their number 3 pick to Richmond
Saints have butler, Higgins, just resigned collar for 3 years, and Wilson and the youngins sneak up half forward. We’re taking a mid.
Which in fairness, you did with Murphy Reid. Two is certainly on the table
Can’t agree more with Harvey Langford at 1, big bodied midfielder who oozes class. We pick him, we don’t need Smilie, we can aim for Jagga , FOS, Murphy Reid, Jobe etc
Love it mate!
Pretty snazzy intro music!
Thanks mate
If the top 10 pans out this way I want the Dons taking Sam Lalor adds size and scoreboard impact to our midfield which is dons fans have been crying out for years
You'd think one or two of Tsatas/Hobbs/Shiel would be off the list
@@daztalksfooty I’m happy to keep them all especially the younger two Lalor is a different type of player would prefer Langford or Smilie but they look to be gone
StK will not take a small forward - they weren’t interested in any of those players you mentioned and Ross Lyon stated publicly on numerous occasions
They need to build the midfield
They still can in a deep midfield draft, even if the board was 100% and it never is, there's still Cooper Hynes and Taj Stanley on the board who could be genuinely anything
A few thoughts...
- Is Josh Battle seriously triggering Band 1 compensation? That's madness. He's a handy role player, but no more. He's never been close to an AA squad, for example.
- As a WC supporter, I hope there's something more than pick 12 in the deal for Barrass, but I appreciate that you're keeping it simple.
- Again, from a WC perspective, not sure Smith would be the selection at #4 if Draper and FOS are still on the board. But if that's the preference, they should consider trading down a couple of spots. I'd happily take Draper at #8 and pocket an extra pick for our trouble. Alternatively, what would Adelaide pay to move up and guarantee they get Draper at #3? What would GC pay to move up and allow them to take a selection before matching a bid for Lombard?
- At #16, WC will be tempted by Bo Allan surely?
Josh could do. Saints last offer absolutely would trigger so even if he's taken less, it can be.
There will be more for TB (12 & Coll 2nd Rd) but that pick isn't in this mock you're spot on
They should consider trading down if someone's in love but I reckon they'll trust their gut and take their guy, whomever he shall be.
Definitely tempting to take Bo there, although WC don't lose too many to the go-home factor at an early age (TB is 29). This is a very deep draft I'm pumped for it
@@daztalksfooty I just think WC need desperately to generate extra picks in the top 30, and if dropping from pick 4 to pick 6 (or whatever) does that, it's worth a look.
Ben Mckay have any All Australians to his name? couldn't be worth pick 3 could he
@@williampallot6809 Yeah, that was also ridiculous. Who would say otherwise?
The fact that the compensation formula produces these outcomes is perverse.
@@BigCatinBKK Ill give up the Josh Battle Compo pick 8 when Collingwood give up Daicos, Brisbane give up the Ashcrofts and Bulldogs give up Jamarra and Darcy
No way Laylor gets to pick 13
Whitlocks are Murray Bushrangers - not Bendigo Pionners
They are, great catch, that's on me
No chance Tigers get 2 first rounders for Bolton, he is not an A grade talent but an inconsistent B grade player at best.
If he can crumb from good forwards and receive connection from good midfielders, he will be good
We will not draft Berry at 10
You don't have to fill list holes with both picks. If you went Reid/Berry and then another mid in the second round, that's a great haul
Tom Gross won't go top 25.
Bo Allen will go top 20 comfortably.
Well Bo is in the top 20 technically 😂
pick 9 and 10..in what world?
The world where Bolton is contracted so why wouldn't Richmond demand the world?
@@daztalksfooty care to bet?
Stopped watching after pick 1 lol lol lol
👍
I think the Eagles if they retain pick 3, pick Finn O’Sullivan. He is friends with Harley Reid. If he is not available then they will prob go Sid Draper
