Gotta love that goal to “put on 20-25 lbs of muscle in about 6 months” quote thrown around so casually by a supposed top fitness professional who should know better. This is one of many reasons why so many teens & beginners have such warped expectations of what’s achievable naturally…..
Yup. I was very shocked when I had only put on around 20 lbs of lean tissue in 2ish years going ham in the gym naturally when I’d heard of guys putting on 50 lbs in under a years.
Its harmful to say it if kids are people who have no experience are hearing it, but the reason they do so in such an off the collar way is because they know damn well they won't be doing it naturally and its unlikely they care if all the stuff its going to take is bad for the actors. Thats Hollywood for you though.
In the last 6 months I’ve gone from 145 to 185lbs naturally working out 5 days a week and just adding one extra meal and supplemental protein, so it is possible
I was in the gym a couple weeks ago and there was some girl and her young buck of a brother working out. Young lad was trying to teach her some dumbbell work, to which she said, "I don't want to get all muscley". I kept quiet, but thought, "Don't worry... you won't." No one gets muscles on accident.
@@tomc6217 yeah man, I'm a guy so I gotta be real careful of that stuff as well. I accidentally lifted something moderately heavy one time, and my biceps exploded from my shirt because of all of the spontaneous muscle that I built.
You guys don't know anything! I achieved my perfect physique by just carrying grocery bags and getting out of bed slightly faster than usual after only 6 months!
Advice from a goon (me)... Some people natural like me but life tends to even the scale. Never taken gear but never really happy. That physique is achievable for years without gear but not without a consequence
Buddy of mine roided out constantly and he was Hemsworth-massive. Not as good of genetics and wasn't lean but huge amount of muscle. He died at age 42 in his bathroom from heart failure. His daughter was 4 at the time.
Pretty common. Alot of people can't break that wrong mindset of "if x amount gives me x results then more amount will give me more results". No. Some people just respond better to gear than others.
I lifted for a week and had to stop for years because I got too big. By day 3, my body fat was so dangerously low for the amount of lean mass I was carrying (180 lbs of pure muscle gains).
Yeah, I loved going to the gym, but then I gained 200 pounds of lean muscle mass and I didn't fit through my front door anymore. Had to stop working out so that I could enter my home again. Pity.
I stumbled and fell once, and as my muscles pushed me back up I felt the testosterone take over. Next thing I know I was eating my own body fat, took about 15 minutes to look like wolverine. Unfortunately I’ve had perfect balance since then and never fell again, so now I look like a small planet.
I agree, 4pm is the most efficacious time to deploy new content as it maximizes its intended audience by hitting a relatively low stress time of day, and does so by taking into account multiple vectors, of course including time zones, work schedules, and of course whatever gym protocol one is utilizing to become a sauce house or peeled out of their tree by leveraging the knowledge vector, that this type of content is a substrate for.... most importantly these videos have minimal impact on compound tolerability and in no way affect organ stress or increase dht causing a cascade towards hairloss, as obviously being hair safe is always priority
Except I'm at work at 4pm so 6pm would be best lol Not that it stops me from watching the videos, gotta love working from home... But when I have to keep pausing every minute or so to take another call it gets pretty annoying and I tend to lose track of what the subject is
I've trained for 40 years. I've helped many many people. So many men believed they would look like a bodybuilder in a few months because of these crazy beliefs that just won't die. I think unrealistic expectations are the single biggest reason for giving up. Some of the worst cases are the people who thought tons of drugs would override their poor genetics and ended up looking like bloated water buffaloes. It's so much better to ignore the bullshit. Accept who you are and enjoy the lifetime journey of self improvement.
I was talking about working out with guys I work with and they brought up the rock. When I said he’s obviously on steroids they were almost offended. Unless ppl do the research they believe what they read in mens fitness and what these ppl say on talk shows.
So true. I remember telling my friends and co workers how it took to actually build muscle. They were surprised because how long it takes and idk how many people gave up because they don’t really see the differences in their body after working out for a month

I've been around so many bodybuilders that I thought were genetically gifted, who after health issues stopped gear use 100% and they literally deflated in a rapid fashion over the next year despite training consistently. Guys going from a very lean 210lbs at like 5ft10 and dropping to 185lb in very short order and looking much softer.
I’ve been training consistently all year, and while there are noticeable differences in my physique, I’ve not changed too much. Less fat, more muscle but not as much as I thought I’d gain. It’s tough and it takes a lot of time and effort but most importantly, your diet has to be on point!
I am pretty sure most of us of I thought '' I don't want to get too big,'' as we started lifting. And as time passed, we learned, that muscles doesn't grow, that fast and it's necessary to implicate so many methods, just to see get ''little big.''

The whole “women being attracted to dad bods” thing shouldn’t be up for debate. Women aren’t actually aroused by dad bods. On top of that they could want leverage over you because they know women aren’t lining up at your door if you got a dad bod🤷♂️. Also when women say they’re into “dad bods” they’re referring to a bear mode physique. Not a skinny fat barbecue dad beer belly physique. Case closed.
"Its so easy for women to look slim, literally just put the fork down and go for a jog." Imagine if someone said that, and the funny thing is its true.

Lifting the weights isn't the tough part in my experience, you feel a compulsion to keep doing it after awhile. The hard part is the ruthless calorie control, and the more fat you lose the harder each subsequent pound of fat becomes. Getting even an *averagely* attractive body takes a *lot* of perseverance for most of us.

You try any of that "im eating super clean" shit and you're going to end up sick feeling, over trained and soon to be injured. That's why when you watch strongman training where they are 100% focused on performance and simply surviving the training blocks, they add things like cheese cake and burgers on heavy stone training days. Honestly, Hemsworth is not THAT massive or ripped - people were achieving similar physiques back 80-100 years ago before steroids or even modern training methods were developed. Just look at Eugene Sandow, George Hackenschmidt, Otto Arco, Steve Reeves, etc. That said, it IS hard work, you do need to do SOME research into modern training methods, you do need to stick to a reasonable diet, and yes, a lot is in getting a pump, good lighting, knowing how to flex and pose, etc.

"seems like a way to shift women's standard of physical attractiveness, something they would never do to men's" Have these women been ignoring the news in the past 10 years? There has been a MASSIVE movement to changes men's standards to accept overweight women, even to the point of calling it "fat shaming". Many people have called this hypocrisy out too, since women can have massive standards that are impossible to meet while men should just accept every woman no matter how they look. "it's men's natural body state to have low body fat and look toned" No it isn't. Look at tribes in the Amazon or those islands where people, to this day, are still living a hunter/gatherer life. The men there are skinny fat, yet can run/climb trees/hunt etc. with no issue whatsoever.
dunno about skinny fat people who live in tribe in deserts area are exteremly skinny with almost no fat and they are tall and have thinner body they are basicily running sticks carrying sticks and most of their muscles in their legs which is understandable considering they are running every day to hunt animals
sadly that's not a universal change and in many societies today, women body-shaming is still pretty much thriving. ie on Chinese social media, an overweight girl is called tank, pig (me personally was called a hippo), while overweight men posting themselves are generally not criticised, and sometimes comforted and encouraged.
@@nopda4095 It depends on the tribe and how much they dominated agriculture. Then, if I stop flexing and do a slightly different angle, I can instantly look like a skinny dude who barely works out. I think you just gotta work out for yourself and keep moving forward and not worry too much about looks as much. I'm not saying that's ideal, but don't get too hung up on it and do something that might hurt yourself by taking short cuts just for other people's approval.
My GF always says gaining muscle and looking like Jay cutler is easy and is not a accomplishment. It's shocking how uneducated most are on the work it takes to gain muscle while working 50hrs a week. They say get big and get respect, that's BS when it comes to woman.
I work as a cashier part time. standing up for hours at a time really does kill your calories and makes gaining much harder. I imagine those who work at Amazon or fedex have it much harder.
The difference in achievability between the ideal male and female aesthetics is undeniable. I remember high school in the early 00's and guys being teased relentlessly, even by faculty, because 'only women can have body image issues.' Meanwhile women are trying to attain simple skinniness and men are trying to attain LITERAL superhero bodies.
My wife is in her early twenties, can maintain an hourglass figure with ease. Could eat whatever she wants all she needs to do is workout. Just had a baby and bounced back easy and lost all the weight within weeks by working out. Meanwhile, if I eat one too many cheat meals I will get a dad bod lol. I have to focus a lot to bulk as a natty Its a joke. Women are just expected to be skinny, which if in your 20s its not difficult. Meanwhile like you said men are compared to juicers.
Exactly, they just have to eat less (generally). We have to spend several days a week in the gym, sleep a lot, eat PERFECTLY correct amounts of everything, constantly push ourselves with more weights and take potentially deadly drugs injected into our bodies yet we have it easy, lol.
Been lifting 5-6 times a week giving it all I have and watching my eating for the last nine months. With that being said I am just now starting to see muscle shape peek through after burning off 40 pounds. With that being said people have told me if I tried harder I’d look like guys like Chris which just kills motivation

What does "watching my eating" mean? Are you actually keeping track of the macro nutrients you're consuming? Are you meeting you macro nutrient targets every day (or at least 90% of the time)? I'm not using any gear and I see desirable improvements on a weekly basis by "simply" putting in the effort of meal planning. When I started my journey to lose 80lbs I was told by a few female coworkers, “it’s easier for men to lose weight” , as they just sit and judge everyone.
Most women also don't seem to have adequate protein intake. Meaning, they miss even the minimum threshold for _maintaining_ muscle, let alone building it. That's what I've noticed among my family and friends, anyway.
It is true 🤣 Estrogen causes much of female “fatness”. If there was a competition for women and men to gain fat, the women would win. If there was a competition for women and men to gain muscle, the men would win. Estrogen versus Testosterone is what it comes down to. Either way it takes hard work. I hope your journey is going successful regardless what people around you think.
I've heard that so many times in my life, and as Kyo Bear mentioned, yes part of it is true, but a lot of it (imo) is the stigma women have against weight training. Women benefit far more from weight training in general compared to men when it comes to losing weight and looking better.
@@The_Real_Frisbee True, but it takes long af. Just because women work off little testosterone, so little gains at a time until it real shows after months due to smaller body structure. 25 pounds of muscle on female looks like thor 🤣

It's great to acknowledge the fact that it's physically impossible to be natural and try to look like Chris in his prime. There was a 20 years old me feeling really frustrated because I started going to the gym as a skinny guy, I only gained some muscle, but of course, it was nowhere close to what I wanted to look like at the time. I am now 25 years old and proud of my physique despite not looking like Chris Hemsworth, I have learned to appreciate every step of my journey. I dont think that was the take away. I didn't finish the video but it is possible to look like prime Chris Hemsworth while remaining natural. He's an actor. He's not a bodybuilder that's been on gear many years through a professional lifting career. You Can Achievement Chris Hemsworth prime without roids. I personally know people who have. It takes a good understanding and knowledge of the body and high levels of discipline. Do not feed into the idea you're not capable of getting as big as you'd like naturally. In my 20's I used to train MMA 3x a week, on top of this, I would hit the gym with my buddies and got training advice from pros and semi-pros in the field. My trainer was obviously taking juice, but I never asked him about it. I think that I received the best possible training advice because I was in a crowd of people whose life earnings depended on being fit, looking good and so on.. My diet was literally Rice/Buckwheat/vegetables/water/coffee and meat (5x a day in small tupperware boxes). The only fast food I was allowed to eat was "Subway" which was the healthiest option by a long shot. I managed to jump from 77kg to 95kg at 188cm in a period of 3-5 years or so. Even at my peak (perfect diet, perfect sleep, perfect training) I wouldn't even come close to looking like Chris Hemsworth.I looked good for girls and dates, but nothing magazine-worthy.. Some of my MMA buddies were obviously on gear...some worked part-time as strippers or models.. It was a shallow world, where everyone was taking something behind the scenes. It’s just not in the cards for you to look like Hemsworth, purely from aesthetics point of view. He’s super thick in the right places, that’s why it looks impressive, but his legs and back aren’t that good. 95 kg is not bad at all if you were sub 12% bf. Anything above that and you’d look like an average guy if you’re not gifted with a complimentary bone structure and muscle insertions. Chris Evans is barely 190lbs / 86 kg in his CA movies but his chest and biceps are great and the fact that he’s naturally lean gives him a great look, however in terms of numbers he’s not impressive at all. His aesthetics are.

Even when not being fat pretty much just requires you to lay off the cheetos, whereas being in the shape apparently required of men demands both dietary choices and endless hours of training (and a dose of "supplements").
You can’t really put any stock in a woman’s comments on this topic. Just ignore. Their opinions change every week based on where they are in their menstrual cycle. There’s a reason why men in the old days thought women were a “mystery”. They aren’t a mystery. They are just all over the place.
The stamina part got me good 19:40. I was 150 lbs at peak marathon training and I felt light as fuck. Even working at my job (physical train yard) was easy as hell, never ran out of stamina since my cardio was on point with a pretty good VO2 max. Decided to pack on weight and bulk up to 185 during the winter months. Suddenly everything was MUCH harder to do, my job became a chore because of how heavy I was. I couldn't image having long bouts of sex at that weight.
Similar for me, when I quit swimming I weighed 67 kg, now I weigh 89 kg and don't do almost any cardio. I did an ergometry back then at age 17, my bpm went from 49 at rest to 180 at maximum when I couldn't pedal anymore because of muscle failure; I did another one this year and went from 76 to 206, 26 years old now. Gladly most of the difference in weight is muscle. Edit: didn't mention my height, ~175cm.
I naturally have a slim but muscular build but I started hitting the gym last month and my pumps after my work out make me look twice as big for like 30 minutes to an hour. My goal is to get to the size of my pumps when I'm not pumped. I've done it before but health issues caused me to lose 30 lbs of muscle so I still have a long way to go
Ik u see the pump u want it to be your normal size u eventually get to that point and see your pump again the cycle continues lol its like an addiction
This is a great video. I've been losing weight over the last 10 years or so and I've finally got to the stage where my face isn't fat and I'm looking fit (I've got broad shoulders and chest so have a v-taper if I'm not fat :) ) There has been a huge difference in the smiles and attitude of women just over the last 8 months where I've become a lot fitter after lockdowns finished, lots more positivity from women. And it's not because I look like Thor, it's because I look fit which is enough for most women to find attractive. I think men can get too self critical and you get used to the way you look so always want to look better, but the reality is you do look good enough to be attractive to more than enough women and don't need to stress about it. Anyway a very positive message.
That's the thing, the vocal minority who are trying to push unrealistic expectations are just that: vocal. Most people are happy to see an "average" healthy looking person. Those people aren't shouting it all over social media. This is what ends up causing skewed views on these subjects. If a man doesn't fit the criteria for the very small group that is being unrealistic because they're not tall, making enough money, don't have a big dick, or aren't shredded, then they fit that "bad" rubric, and that's what sticks out in people's minds sadly.
As someone in sales, it's like they have the expectation that if a girl doesn't buy their product simply upon looking at them then they aren't good enough Most guys can't talk at all
I want to believe that most girls who go to the gym themselves have a better understanding of what a natural male physique looks like vs. an unnatural one.
I feel like it is true, seeing men in my gym lifting heavy (And seeing some very regularly in gym) with very natural body made me realize how many men online portraying massive muscle and super lean body are probably not natty. (And from my femake fitness groupchat, I feel like that's common sense among us.) It actually made me feel a lot better about myself, since these men work this hard and doesn't have crazy muscles my itty bitty muscle gain is justified.
@@exnihilonihilfit6316 Ummm why not? Cus some women (and men) see people using performance-enhancing stuff online but they don't claim to use it, so that's what many think what gym bro should look like, while most men working in the gym don't have that extreme body type. (for example, the rock?) Seeing male actors and social media influencers are like seeing female models and actors, most attain their body through extreme ways, some are genetics, and they get paid for that. And normal people don't. That's how unrealistic expectations do to u
Last year I set the goal of going from 155 to 205 and by the end of the year I was 180, so about 20-25 lbs natural. I actually hit 186 in August 2021, and from there I've only lost weight (Feb 2022 - 178) and yet ppl keep saying I look bigger. Why? What Derek said is accurate. Gaining 20-25lbs in 6 months is not the same thing as gaining 20-25lbs of *lean* muscle mass. Temper your expectations and realize that those 3-5 year "nattie" transformations we've seen are extremely realistic and doable!
"The average waist size of a woman in the United States is 38.7 inches , according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)." Yet a group that statistically have never seen the inside of a gym want to tell men how easy it is for them to achieve Chris Hemsworth's pique physique. True story.
Things have changed so much from when I was young (I am 42 now). When I was a young man, it was expected to be in reasonable shape. My wife and I have recently gotten into decent shape and were at the beach. Thousands of people there and there was one couple that was in better shape than us. And most of these people were 15-20 years younger. Every guy was fat, almost every woman was bordering on obese, and again...these are people in their early twenties. It's unbelievable.
Totally agree. I live in SW Florida. I’m 49, 5’9” 175 - muscular/fit, but wouldn’t consider myself shredded. I look around and it’s like people have become caricatures of humans. Sickly, fat, weak. I don’t mind though. Had a great time with a 23 year old woman last Thursday. She said she had thought I was in my mid 30s. This is how bad it’s gotten. People don’t even know what they should look like at different ages.
This is mostly an issue with the US. Unfortunately, the US is a country of extremes. It has a lot of bodybuilders and athletes but the majority of the population is still obese or overweight. I'd have to say it mostly has to do with car centric infrastructure. People in the US almost always travel by car and, especially in the suburbs, you often find lots of fast food joints next to wide roads with lots of parking and drive-thrus. This means people exercise less, socialise less and eat horribly. This is mainly why this isn't a problem in most European countries since European culture largely revolves around local foods instead of chain brands as well as having a nice, walkable atmosphere. Europeans often have what's called a third place, a cozy place where they can hang out. The reality is suburban life in the US is generally very depressing and it's the root cause of most health issues in the country. Walking long distances next to big houses that all look the same with no life just isn't fun, so most people choose to drive. It also doesn't give you any incentive to stay fit because you aren't seeing anybody
That was just a dead giveaway that this shit was not natty. 20lbs in 6 months is beyond what the human body is capable of natty. With perfect programming and diet, you *may* be able to put on 20lbs in your first year of lifting, but it's not fucking easy.
Oh, it's that easy? Well someone should tell all the 150lb construction workers that! I worked at a car manufacturing plant for years, lifting heavy parts up every 45 seconds and even putting them back down... Didn't help. Did give me a lot of back problems though!
Construction work is absolutely terrible for muscle growth, I did it for a while at 18 and I actually lost weight, muscle, because of how many calories you burn working and we only ate one meal in 12-14h of working in the blazing heat, it sucks... but hey, women have to deal with mansplaning and catcalling, the horror...
@@bingbong6127 i used to think doing construction work would get you swole as shit cause your lifting all day but just like you, i actually lost muscle and size compared to when i worked security on my ass all day and then lifted 5x a week. you do get strength and endurance tho
I work out 4-6 days a week, 1-2hrs per day, and the best i get is lean with some muscle not bad all natural of course... And most people don't understand that it takes years to build on your progress, genetics matter, and it's so hard to look like these guys. And not everyone wants to be on the juice because it feels good and healthy for our hormones to be running the way they should..
@@SebiBubble depends on intensity, only need to do about 40mins workout but i go full high intensity ( have 20secs rest) and i need to rest that particular muscle group longer tbh (dont have as much time), the original comment probably does low intensity (not going full hammer at their max weight and to failure all the time) and maybe get a pump and take longer breaks
Unless someones a total genetic anomaly nobody should put effort into worrying about their genetics. Out of all the aspects of your training that may be holding you back from max gains its pretty much the bottom of the list since its the one thing you can't control and doesn't effect certain things as much as you might assume if you're a normal person.
You’re definitely over training at 4-6 days a week 2 hours a day. Unless you’re taking super long rests between sets. Try decoding for a week and going back to it 3-4 days a week and change up your routine
Forgot to mention Chris Evans too Derek, for me he had the best proportioned superhero type physique out of all the main MCU/DCU actors in Captain America 1. But he couldn't maintain it - Crazy to see just how much smaller he was by End Game.
Also First captain America came out in 2011 filmed in 2010 Endgame came out 2019 he also had other roles and might not have wanted to walk around like with the effort it took
@@emmanuelmontperous3537 Very true, from what I heard is that Evans really doesnt enjoy weight training, so he was never going to stay at that size like he was in the first cap movie. For me his baseline physique is what I've aimed for in my own training. The guy has a great physique when he isnt training for a role.
As a former trainer who has trained tons of guys, I always laughed when guys would say that they just want to look like Mark Wahlberg or Ryan Reynolds in Blade Trinity. Now it's Hemsworth or Evans...They didn't want to get huge like a bodybuilder. Lol! Most guys have average or bad genes for gaining muscle and might gain ten pounds of muscle in a year or two with a layer of new fat. There are a few guys who are blessed or outright freaks but that is really rare. My favorite is when Bulky guys would want abs and they would ask how much they would need to lose to get them and I would say 30-50 pounds and they would be offended and say it was like 10-15 pounds. Try dieting for a show that is a reality check! 😭😢
Hello Mr former trainer I have a question. So I've started working out about 8 months ago (very hard and consistent). I started at about 78 kgs with roughly 15% body fat (I started pretty strong and athletic been working rough jobs before). Oh and I'm 1,82m tall (or 6 feet I think). Now I'm at 83 kgs with roughly 13% all natural. Fat numbers might not be accurate but I did get a good chunk leaner. Is that a good amount of muscle built in that time?
I politely ask for sincere advice. Please help: I'm natty, skinny fat, youth is gone, not middle age, started training hard since a month, three days training then rest day in each time block. Fish, cheese, eggs, occasional meat diet. Legumes, greens. Living a lower middle class life economically. So nothing is organic here (estrogen mimicking micro plastic derivative in fish, estrogen type hormones in eggs, cheese very likely). Gut health good. Sleep good. How soon can I get into normal male shape - like Ryan Reynolds before he started saucing? I mean flat abdominal region and one that does not cause low sexual desire or arousal. Thank you in advance.
@@yorulaney8563First of all, I'm a former trainer who is 50 now. When I started training I gained 20 pounds of muscle in a year. Everyone thought I was on drugs because they had been working out a few years and did not look jacked. Turned out, I have great muscle genes. I had awesome calves and legs but never had to work them hard...My arms grew too fast and I had great abs. Other parts responded slower.😭😢 You probably have good genes and can change body comp pretty easily like I can. You probably have body parts that respond slower than others as well. Age is important too. My dad never trained and was ripped like Bruce Lee. It drove me crazy because his diet was awful. If he had trained he would have been a beast. I was just saying that most guys respond pretty slow if they are natural. I've known a few guys who were natural and looked amazing just doing calisthenics and basic weight training. Their diets were not good at all but they were the top 5% of guys. Go to the gym and watch how many people's bodies don't change that much despite training regularly. In my experience, it's genes and diet that determines most people's results. Im not talking about anabolics. I'll leave that to Derrick.💪
@@simplehealthyliving4681 well I'm not a trainer but since I'd say I made a decent physique in a short time I'll try to give my opinion here. Skinny fat to me usually means 2 things: fat belly and not enough shoulders/arms to balance that. Luckily you can tackle both of those. Eating healthy is good but the only thing that matters really (very dumbed down) is calories and protein. You wanna be in a caloric deficit so Google how much calories you need, track how many you eat and keep it about 500 under for a semi agressive cut. I'f you want it to go faster you can do a bigger one but wouldn't recommend it you'll build muscle even slower, it's unhealthy and draining and takes tons of willpower so stick roughly to the 500 rule. And do cardio, doesn't have to be running I go for a 1h walk everyday. Might be a bit much at the beginning so stick to 0,5h I guess. That will help you lose the fat (pro tip soda and juice adds up to a lot of calories so get diet pop or stick to water) And finally the training part. You obviously want to train your body equally but if you want a more 'manly' physique you should put extra effort on your shoulders, arms, chest and upper back. And to effectively build muscle eat about 1gramm of protein per pound of body weight. That's sometimes tough to pull off especially in a cut and for beginners so just make sure to try and eat alot of it. Creatine helps too but don't get too caught up in tons of supplements. And the most important thing: stick to it. It's a long road and as a natty it will take a while so don't rush to the finish goal but enjoy the process and think to yourself that you're constantly trying to better yourself. And if you manage to stay consistent you are already a beast. Keep going man 💪
I think most of us do wish it really was that easy. It is fascinating seeing peoples reactions though because they really have no idea. As soon as they start pursuing it themselves they’ll realize how tough it actually is just getting into regular shape not even “avengers” form.
Been lifting for almost 7 years. Repping 315 on the bench and 500 on the dead’s while lean and don’t look like that. Social Media had turned the average person’s brain to oatmeal.
@@vilhelmkron7455 Yeah but to cut to 12% without stimulates like Ozempic can hit your gains very hard as a natty. Even guys like Scot Herman walk around at about 15% bodyfat. At my mass 18% is enough to show my 6 pack. I look good but not Chris good. Gear is not just to get huge, it’s to get huge while not losing major mass while cutting. A natty cutting almost to 10% is gonna lose a lot of gains. Not worth it.
for my case i will never ever try to do more cutting below 18% bodyfat, i will lose a significant amount of muscle, strength, looking tired all day just for a fucking 6 pack. espescially in rainy /winter season
I remember when I saw Ryan Reynolds in Blade Trinity. I had already been lifting for maybe a year or so and I was maybe 18 or 19. I remember watching the dvd extras and interviews online about his diet and training and just being so led by the claims of eating steel cut oats and rice and chicken to get diced like he was. What a long journey to get to this point now where looking back on it I feel so stupid for believe it. Everyone falls victim to this shit.
That isn’t bad advice and his body wasn’t exactly incredible. It is definitely doable naturally, Imo I have a far superior physique and i’ve never touched gear. But it took years, some tumbles off of the path and starting again. If they go from no muscle to that in 3-5 months then yes, you should be concerned.
A guy literally came up to me the other night at the gym and asked what “gear are you on”? I told him I’m completely natty and he was so surprised. I told him 10 years of consistent exercise with occasional diet breaks and getting better with diet and progressive training. That guy is on gear and looks worse than me. Also my parents genetics helped.
Dude you're so awesome how long have you trained I'm so impressed you should probably brag about your Monumental achievement in the comments. Really no one has ever trained for as long as you or been asked if they were on gear before... Dragonslayer😂 Gtfo dude
There was those 3 guys always talking about hormones and T3/T4, and someday i asked one of them if they do blood test, and the bigger guy like 95kgs not higher than 9% body fat said, "I don't do blood tests i'm natural i have 4% body fat", and inside i was hm okay but i didnt ask if you're on gear, i just asked what kind of blood test you do, but i just said ok and moved on. He just exposed himself lmao
One of Derek's best qualities is his supraphysiological understanding of how women use emoji. For example, he's correct that 🥴 is indeed "confused & disappointed"
In essence, you are a product of your lifestyle and the people you most spend time with. After that, diet, mental health, cost (of training, food and time, depending on current situation) play a big factor. Not everyone has the proper guidance either, which makes it harder to see results. Then add genetics etc. But almost all people can achieve something pretty impressive after a few years of solid progress. Keep up the hard work guys 😌
I endorse your message. Are you going to look like Thor from the movie? Unlikely. However, you can get much closer to your potential than you are now. Often men are not willing to do what it takes to get to where they'd like to be. Whining about unrealistic expectations sans juice is a cope.
Derek just want you to know that I watch all your ads all the way through because I truly feel like I learn something and it isn't just bs and even when I've already watched them 10 times before lol

Stuff like this just makes me sad man. For example, I was really out of shape last year, so I decided to try and turn my life about and get on the exercise wagon. Lost 15kgs in a year, had a PT and I'm probably the healthiest I've been. But I feel like it's never enough you know? I get the desire to want more, because I do want more, more muscle less fat and a healthy lifestyle. Mental health is a factor too, some days are easier than others so adhering to a strict diet and routine is hard. But I feel like a lot of people (not just women) only look at the progress that others make, and not acknowledge the struggles it takes to get there
You've made a really good point 👌 people rarely recognise the milestones that others reach, or, equally importantly, the journey it took to get there. Positive recognition is important (that's why people seek validation), we seem to forget that it's just as important to validate our own efforts and progress. ... and just in case no-one told you today and you didnt tell yourself: you're doing a good job, even though it's tough, and you should be proud, keep going, bruh 🙌

I think the Reddit post is most indicative of how unmoved women are by a male physique in the 99.99 percentile. I have an athletic physique from picking up heavy things a couple times a week. To my girl, my physique is basically like Chris Hemsworth’s. I think the relevant categories for most women are athletic, skinny, and fat. More nuanced distinctions are uninteresting to most.
@Lejon I feel ya I showed someone a picture of me when I started working out (79kg about 15% body fat) and more recent (83kgs about 13%) it doesn't sound like much but trust me I look ALOT fuller more muscular and just bigger. Girl thought the first picture was the after xD
Oh btw that would mean about 4 kgs (probably a bit more since I've lost fat since then) of lean muscle I've been training for about 8 months is that good? Been on a very slight cut since the beginning to do the muscle building while losing fat but it's insanely slow (or at least feels like to me)
@@yorulaney8563 That's really really good natural progress, not slow at all. Edit: especially since you dropped 2% bf which at your weight is about 1.7 kilos that has been replaced by muscle, so 5.7kg of muscle in 9 months, pretty insane actually
Don't see much point tbh. Unless they get fucked by reddit admins, they're just gonna love the attention. People have been calling out and roasting FDS for years, but because their arguments are dismissed because of labels and bullshit. Dont concern yourself with people who have severe relationship issues.
Also in true Hollywood style - non existent leg development to exaggerate the 'massive' (probably not even 200lb physique) - upper arms bigger than the legs always makes me laugh.
True, I have been hitting the gym for 4 months, did some squats some weeks ago and I got such a testosterone boost I now look like cbum, noobie gains are crazy man.
@@bane2256 yes. Low carb diets are stupid. Carbs boost your glycogen stores, increase you insulin amongst other things. It's just easy to eat a lot of carbs which have 4 calories per gram and they can bloat you quite easy since carbs hold onto water very well. Low carb diet it good if you want to decrease bloating and loose water weight, or to do keto.
As a child I thought that age determined your body. Like as soon as you were 18-20 you are just instantly from thin air jacked and lean and that dads were just fat and those were the facts. 🤣 I later also thought working out was like money in the bank and that once you gain muscle you just never lost it even if you just ate potato chips and staired at the ceiling all day.
@@petergriffin680 I wish ha ha. I was skinny fat and I have to track calories and be very disciplined to even have a shot at getting below 18% body fat.

I personally think that Matt Murdock's physique from daredevil is a really good balance of whats achievable for an average dude. Not fucking huge or crazy lean
Good stuff! I appreciate how realistic Derek is with his advice on training, getting naturally attainable results and expectations and also his opinion on gear. Always informative.
Honestly grateful that I have Derek here helping me back when I first started working out Probably would have have up soon with the high expectations I was setting for myself especially at a younger age
Facts, ever since I started just lifting heavy things and putting them down, I got stronger bigger, my hair disappeared and a yellow suit appeared in my wardrobe. Quite strange but I'm not complaining
WOW this is so factual; funny story I remember one time I opened a door for a girl (previously being fugly and non-muscular) mind you, it was a pretty heavy door then spontaneously immediately after my arm grew to about to about 24 inches and wouldn't you believe the same girl looked back and asked me on a date!
Girls on the internet also think that Henry Cavill’s body is in the average range for attainability, so its best to take what they say with a grain of salt. Internet women vs what theyre actually like/ want irl are so incredibly different that it’s hard to believe theyre the same beings sometimes.
The first post was from Female dating Strategy which is largely known as a misandrist hate group which utilise similar terminology to incels, for example they call all men scrotes and seperate them into essentialist categories like HVM (high value male) or LVM. This is a linguistic tool used by cults throughout history, it’s a way categorising people into immutable boxes and any nuances get eliminated. They also create an us vs them mentality and any woman who disagrees with FDS (most do on reddit) are shunned, for example they call women who disagree with them ‘pickmeshas’ again creating an us vs them scenario. Incel, Redpill and Manosphere communities also use essentialist language in their worldview, this is just the female equivalent. Basically any subculture that makes you feel apart of the in group whilst calling everyone else ‘normies’ or sheep that are different from you is manipulating you to join their ideology. They will use a fear base response to keep you active like posting the worse possible examples of men or women’s behaviour, divorce rates, weird hateful Twitter threads and they will even have some decent advice or truth to it, yet still riffled with confirmation bias, hyperbole and other cognitive flaws in their worldview.
I've been lifting for a little over 2 years. The first year I gained quite a bit of muscle mass and strength, but nowhere near the level I wanted to be, so I continued pushing on. This second year has been brutal. I've been getting nothing but joint pains, popping, probable tendonitis, IT band sydrome, shoulder impingement and so on. I've improved massively on my form from when I started, so not sure how the problems are getting worse with more experience. Anyway, this has caused my progress to stagnate leading to almost an entire year of not only lifting the same weight for some muscles, but I have lost strength in other parts of my body even tho I go to the gym 3 times a week (full body workouts). All I can tell you is its not so easy in the long run. But I continue to push on despite everything.
Remember guys. It's all in your head. I used to be extremely fit and ripped. Slim built, tall. Handsome. Everything was straight except for my head. Has serious anxiety from childhood issues. I wasn't able to handle all the attention and the anxiety ate me up. Pushed all my friends and fam away. Now I'm out of shape and underweight by 10 pounds. No motivation. Working on finding help to get myself back. What I learned is it's not just you your doing it for. Be the hero you want to be and people will see you as the hero they need. Just be ready to handle a king's spoils
Ironically, it takes way more work for males to have an attractive physique than females. we need to lift all the time, they just need to not be gluttons. obviously its more complicated than that and I'm not complaining, but its amazing how outlandish some women's views are on this.
“I don’t lift heavy because I don’t want to get too big” cracks me up every time I hear it………getting big on or off the gear you’re gonna need to work so fucking hard it would break most men.

As someone in sales, it's like they have the expectation that if a girl doesn't buy their product simply upon looking at them then they aren't good enough
Most guys can't talk at all
I want to believe that most girls who go to the gym themselves have a better understanding of what a natural male physique looks like vs. an unnatural one.
They wont. Just take steroids and take the girls. Easier right?
I feel like it is true, seeing men in my gym lifting heavy (And seeing some very regularly in gym) with very natural body made me realize how many men online portraying massive muscle and super lean body are probably not natty. (And from my femake fitness groupchat, I feel like that's common sense among us.)
It actually made me feel a lot better about myself, since these men work this hard and doesn't have crazy muscles my itty bitty muscle gain is justified.
@@Ummmmmmmm841 "are probably _NOT_ natty"? Are you sure that's what you meant, cause it doesn't make much sense to me.

Seeing male actors and social media influencers are like seeing female models and actors, most attain their body through extreme ways, some are genetics, and they get paid for that. And normal people don't. That's how unrealistic expectations do to u

America has a huge (no pun intended) obesity problem. BS like body positivity and fat acceptance are making it worse.
Totally agree. I live in SW Florida. I’m 49, 5’9” 175 - muscular/fit, but wouldn’t consider myself shredded. I look around and it’s like people have become caricatures of humans. Sickly, fat, weak. @@johnlibonati7807agreed. I’m 32 and people think I’m in my early twenties. Standards have gotten so low it’s unbelievable.

And my big lifts are a 190 kg deadlift, 120 kg bench and 140 kg squat is that good too?

In essence, you are a product of your lifestyle and the people you most spend time with. After that, diet, mental health, cost (of training, food and time, depending on current situation) play a big factor.
Rest bro
Cut to 2x a week, 10 sets per muscle per week (5 sets each workout). If it's not working why do you keep doing the same thing?
Derek is the only one who’s ever sold me on a sponsored product. Don’t know how I should feel about it
Remember guys.
Hope you're doing okay today.
Derek's big takeaway: Competition is low 😂😂 love it
"Everybody wanna be a bodybuilder, but nobody wanna lift no heavy ass weight!"
- Some big dude
All you gotta do is carry all of the groceries in one trip and then boom you’re repping 225 for 30
I took out the trash once and became so massive that I couldn’t go back inside my house 🙃
Making my future kid carry the groceries then giving my a glass of water and creatine followed by a protein shake
Dude. You're a god for this video. I've watched so many of yours and this is the best one. 🙌
Keep up the good work man you and your content is definitely needed in the fitness industry.
Saw this on reddit a few days ago. Glad to see Derek cover it, it hurt my brain to read.
@@username-sm2hq female dating strategy. It's a wasteland
@@benpalumbo6726 its the women edition of r/incel 💯
@@username-sm2hq on Derek's subreddit, r/moreplatesmoredates , but it's a screenshot from another sub, not sure where it originated from
I can confirm this this true, lifted a donut to my face twice a week and I gained 25 lbs of muscle in a month.
Same mindset of those girls who train legs 95% of the time, or simply nothing at all, because they don't wanna have humongous shoulders. Like doing one set lateral raises is gonna turn you into Ronnie Coleman
Man your sponsor better be paying you good money for how much effort you put into that
