Thanks Lawrence for the bit of history on these engines. I've got a 1962 (early 2a) version, waiting for bit of attention, but really enjoy following along with your progress with this project. I like the look of the E-type too! Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the vid. Looks like you had it bored .040" based on the markings on the pistons. Any idea how much torque and hp you will end up with after boring the cylinders and the 8:1 head? Are you doing any porting to the head (for instance like the gas flowed Turner Engineering heads)? I have a 1960 S2 with an early 2.25L petrol (engine block serial number starts with 151) - has smaller diameter main bearings for the crank and the head has the deep bellows type thermostat housing with an 8 bolt water pump. Will be getting my engine completely rebuilt from the bottom up and thinking about rebuild options.

I would only be guessing - maybe 5% more torque at the same rpm. My manuals list a 4hp difference between 7:1 and 8:1 (73 to 77), and the overbore might be worth another few hp - 80hp maybe?

Are you still linked with Fred Phillips garage tour? I would like to know some info about this collection.

I organized a few tours of his collection a while back, but am not 'connected'. What do you want to know about his collection?

@@mkingkong2285 Funny I think Fred has about 150 cars, but at least the last time I looked, not a single Japanese or German car...He started off with all American, then got into Italian cars with a few British ones thrown in... If I see a 300zx I'll let you know!

I bought a 1965 Land Rover 109 Dormobile camper out of Toronto. I think that truck is now in San Francisco 😒. Wish I kept it.

I had a door mobile pass through my hands, and I wish I kept it too. It was purchased in the early 60's from a Dr. in Uculet, BC, picked up in Britain, and driven around the world. On the guys honeymoon! It had a sticker from the Kruger Game Reserve in South Africa. It was very rusty and had the carcasses from millions of insects in it... just awful. Did my wife ever hate it! Went to a guy in Denver.
