The flute is called "Shakuhachi", the horizontal harp is called "Koto", the 3 stringed guitar-like instrument is the "Shamisen".

Unique in every sense. The singer is classically trained in song and dance. The traditional instrument players are all masters including the lovely Beni on shamisen, The guitarist is exceptional and the bassist, Asa, a world of his own. The drummers are traditional and western and again top of their game. Their live shows are utterly fantastic.

Thanks for the reaction video. The Wagakki Band has been around awhile, but the members were quite accomplished before joining the band.
The song is Senbonzakura (One Thousand Cherry Trees) which is a very popular song in Japan. However, even if you learn Japanese, you probably won’t understand it. The song references many items of Japanese culture, mostly isolated statements from manga and anime that are well known in Japan. Even if you don’t know the words, though, it’s a great song to listen to.

Hi John, Nice T-shirt! Thank you for reacting to Wagakki Band. The song is actually a kind of protest lament, set in Post World War 2 Japan. They are singing about how Japan's ambitions during the war caused their own downfall and the loss of traditional Japanese identity due to occupation and Westernisation. The band was established by the female lead singer, Yuko, who wanted to popularise traditional Japanese instruments and culture again, primarily within Japan, but also to share it with the rest of the world. It is a cover of an original vocaloid song, and was used in anime.
'Wagakki' literally means traditional Japanese style/music/instruments, but they are a fusion of traditional and modern styles, so they are now trying to evolve traditional elements of Japanese culture and bring them into a more modern, global style. This was the main, stated goal of their 'React' EP. The band members are all involved in other side projects and bands. Their composition style is done communally. Whichever band member has the original idea for the track leads the composition process, but each band member does the arrangements for their own instruments. Yuko (lead vocals) is apparently the best at writing ballads. Asa, (bassist) is apparently the best at writing pop songs, and Machiya (lead guitar) is apparently the best at writing rock and metal. They write a lot of very different songs, some more traditional, some more modern, and are influenced by a lot of different genres, including classical, jazz, swing, punk, rock, metal, pop and EDM.
Similarly, each band member designs their own costumes, which are a blend of moden and traditional styles. Some, like Yuko, tend to have a more traditional look, whilst others, like Beni (shamisen), tend to be more modern, but they change their look regularly for different concerts, different album or music video themes.
    Band Members (stage names) are:
Yuko - female lead vocals, shigin-style (traditional Japanese poetry recital style - designed to cut past the traditional Japanese instruments, koto, shamisen and shakuhachi, and be heard clearly), but also modern vocals and rap, and aplays piano in her side projects. She is also trained in traditional fan, parasol and sword dancing, which she often performs on stage during concerts.
Machiya - male vocals and lead guitar (sometimes wears a traditional Japanese Noh theatre mask - the oldest form of theatre in the world tha is still performed, and moves like that character from Noh theatre)
Asa - gender-fluid, bass guitar, back-up vocals (also a vocaloid composer and programmer)
Kiyoshi - male, traditional koto(s) (horizontal harp-like instruments)
Daisuke - male, traditional shakuhachi (bamboo flute)
Beni - female, tradtional tsugaru shamisen (a vibrant style of shamisen playing developed by geishas)
Kurona - male, traditional wadaiko / Taiko drumming, percussion and tradional chanting and calls
Wasabi - modern drum kit and percussion.

I must of missed this amongst your Band Maid reactions :-) I have to say as much as I want to see Band Maid, if I had to choose, I would go and see The Wagakki Band. Others have given you plenty of suggestions and given you the instrument names. This song is actually a cover but don't worry, they have plenty of excellent songs. Her voice is the traditional Japanese shigin. It was used to sing poetry.

Listen to Wagakki band - Tengaku ( 天樂)
I myself prefer the studio version because I feel the japanese instruments are not overshadowed as much than in the live version.
The lay down harp is « koto » it is the japanese version of the chinese « guhzeng ». They have a different amount of strings and made of different materials.
The japanese banjo is « shamisen ».
The flute is « shakuhachi »
The japanese drum is « wadaiko »
Advice: Sadly, don’t react too much to Wagakki band(Avex)or some other japanese bands to avoid copyright strikes. Japanese labels are very strict. I hope this will help you.

The Shakuhachi came from the Chinese shiao
The koto came from the guzheng
The shamisen came from the san xian.
Chinese culture inspired Japanese culture by a lot.

it's Japanese. their traditional instruments (wagakki in Japanese) are shakuhachi (flute), koto (harp), shamisen (banjo), wadaiko (drums).
I think you can find the English translation of the lyrics in the official music video.
You should check their song "Akatsuki no Ito" (th-cam.com/video/OqwysRHT3RQ/w-d-xo.html) and "Ikusa" (th-cam.com/video/Y5zj3dwNxJw/w-d-xo.html).

Yes, this is JAPANESE folk metal, and they are one of the best in the genre. The traditional instruments are Koto (horizontal harp), taiko drums, shakuhachi (flute) aaaand... the shamisen, the japanese "guitar/banjo" with BENI NINAGAWA. They are all japanese, the singer, YUKO, sings in japanese the subtitles may mislead totally anyone. Totally something beyond this planet.
Do you want something more mainstream but still folk? watch Onmyouza - Kouga Ninpouchou.

I love the band and the music, but the vocals drive me up a wall. They sound like soap opera intros from Taiwan/China (long story how I know, just trust me when I say I've heard that sort of thing WAY too much). But combining modern rock with these amplified traditional instruments makes for some really good music IMO.

The vocalist Yuuko Suzuhana has a degree in piano and shigin (which she also teach). Shigin is a form of poem reciting. The voice she uses in Wagakki band is the same as used in shigin. It's a traditional voice.
