I started with and still blow a Duck Commander duck picker together with an original Commander plus if I'm after teal there's that too. Always been able to use a double Reed better. But I'm a turkey caller more so than a duck caller. Thanks for the info! Always good to see a notification.

Haha love the video as I just got my cut down reeds in the mail. I use a few calls, original double nasty bgc, olt and Perkins D-2, comander 19-- , and a IRV Woodford dd-1, along with a woodie wistle, and a teal breach call. Been thinking about some sea duck calls cause have had a few bunches of sea ducks land in my spread, a great video would be of all the species in the central flyway and what they sound like and which calls to use for them. Cause I have been hunting for 20 years and have turned canvas backs with a mallard call, and landed goldeneye with a real wistle, but what either of those ducks sound like is a mystery

I use a combination of single and double reed calls. Brands vary from Lohman, Primos, Mossy Oak etc. . I prefer Knight and Hale for Goose calls though. I honestly go into a store, I ask first, but I open each call and try it in the store, I do a variety of calls to determine which sounds the raspiess, most natural without squaking or I call it blowing over. I must stress that the most important thing is, " PRACTICE ", and then more practice. To the point your better half or parents are asking you to go outside and call. Calling comes from the diagram and it helps to say certain words to help produce the correct sounds. Words like, " duga, duga, duga" to create the feeding chuckle. " Gweet, Gweet, Gweet " for a hen on the water etc. If you can find ducks in a park setting or a farm go and watch and listen to them. Then call to them and imitate the cadance, sound the ducks make.. For young or first time callers try a few different ones ssk the store if you can try them out before purchasing one in the store. A double reed is more forgiving but you will have to make minor adjustments on the reeds sometimes. Get one call practice until you are sounding good then practice alot more. Lol ! Good luck ! Bobby I hope you might do a video on basic calling and words to use to help your enthusiast first time waterfowlers. Keep up the great videos I enjoy watching each and every one.

Single reeds are hard to blow but can be good for open water but double reeds are forgiving but they also have good tone and sound to them

Don't make a mistake, depends on the type of calling, and area you are hunting. Single reeds are for loud raspy calling so open water, double reeds are forcin close work and soft sounds so like timber or as a closer call. Longer wide bore calls have a lower back end and make more realistic feeding chatter. Metal reeds make more of a tinny sound which works well on refuges where your calling is basically long hails and comeback calls. Etc. Yada Yada yada. There is lots of different calling techniques systems and calls that cater to each type. After you start researching calling and learning different techniques you will find your own style and preferences. I carry 4 mallard calls most times and each is customized for what I want it to sound like. I've changed reeds, corks, plastics, painted the inside of calls, changed tone boards redesigned how corks fit into calls, sanded, buffed, triggered, bent, lipped, calls, reeds, etc.. i have a few go to calls and have built my own cut downs from parts from 3 companies. All this to get 4 calls that have a purpose for hunting. Most calls do one thing well and not five. If it don't quack, purr, feed, hail, and comeback on the right notes you might as well not use a call and make duck sounds with your mouth, and to get those noises right might take a few calls. If you listen to ducks when you are hunting for years you will start to notice that most calls are set about a level too high and make a near enough noise if you really want to dile in ducks its going to take some work.

My take on double and single reeds is if you learn to blow a single then blowing a double is no problem. Double reeds are easier to blow soft, but if you can learn to blow a single soft that’s the way to go I believe. Remember when deciding between the two; you can blow a loud call soft, but you can’t blow a soft call loud.

Gavin Drye Bobby has a Franchi, I️ thinks that’s how you spell it, but I️ researched for about 6 months and ended up getting the benelli Super Vinci, I️ haven’t used it yet but it’s a great fun, only down side is if somehow you blow up the barrel you can’t get a replacement. But I️ would stick with benelli, beretta or franchi. I️ got my super Vinci for 1000, but it was on sale. Just get something in your price range and try for a 3.5 inch gun. Hope this helped man
