What incredible energy this band had!! And having just been to 7 shows on their latest tour (Living it Up 2023 tour) they’ve still got it! Long live Level 42 - thank you for the music xxx 💜🥳🎶🎸🎹🥁🎸🎷🎺🎶🥳💜
Pure talent and entertainment, not much of this calibre of musicians left these days, the best line up too. Rest in peace Boon, amazing guy! I was 18 in 1983 and saw Level 42 live for the first time it was fantastic. That whole era of packing in concerts and nightclubs shoulder to shoulder meeting others every night of the week if we chose! those were the best days of my life. Changed days and changed society now in 2021 we are truly living in an abnormal time. No more natural mixing in crowds, our youngsters are sadly being brought up in a different situation to what we had the pleasure to experience and love.
I'm same age as you mate ..saw Level 42 live six times during the eighties well into the jazz funk scene .....wedge haircut , pixie boots , ox blood jacket ...electric blue mk3 Ford cortina with funk vehicle on the back 🤣🤣🤣🤣 we were very lucky as we caught the music of the 70s the advent of punk , ska , two tone , new wave , synth bands ( went to see the Human League in 1982 ) ......and the clubbing and pubbing in Suffolk and Essex .....I feel sorry for my kids and grandkids they will never know those simple and happy times ,......
For me, it's all about the Gould brothers. Cool as hell! Phil always looked a chiller, while Boon had a mystical vibe. Brilliant keyboard solo from Mike!
I think this is the best footage out there of any Level 42 line-up. Wish they had a percussion player now instead of a brass section! So much energy here.
Absolutely great, how Mark jumps around on the stage while he is playing on the bass at the same time. And he hits the notes to the hundredth of a second without looking at the instrument and his fingers. Unbelievable!
Level 42 are just the absolute greatest but in this track I just crack up at Mark's face when he says he's going to dance and he does! lol. How he plays and dances is beyond me. The man's pure talent is unfathomable!!!
Here is a band on top of their form and knew well how to entertain the audience, before the mainstream pop started to prevail over the funk/black vibes in their music. Thankfully we can still watch them on video as they used to be in the early Eighties.
I was there. Its my hometown Bochum. Born in 1962, the concert in 1983 now 2024. I am now 61 and Level 42 is also in my life. Thank you man for this Video so so much❤ you are from the netherlands, right?
lucky me, i was there upstairs. Level 42 at in full bloom, boon brothers i say Phil Gould is my hero. And member "noachobule patauri", it's not a garage, it is the ZECHE gig station in Bochum, Germany. Former coalmine, fyi. ty
i was there i threw the drinks at Boon at the after interviews.. I seen Mark at the Zeche Bochum, Germany b4, their plazin pleasure was of the hook ... Excellent pack, Gould Brothers let all go!!!!!! thx
Massive, tight live version of this Paradise Garage Classic.. I will never forget hearing Levan champion this tune almost every time I visited.... " I have seen the sun shine bright in Paradise" "I have been there I believe it"
i have been at the Bochum Zeche Gig, as i was the Rockpalast Gig at Essen :-) The Bochum Zeche Gig was as good as the the tv production later on. These guys fired mucho, no doubt. Still thankful i found their music back in the days. My band since 82.
haha, i was there. Up on the left ceiling. I have been at this gig :-) And let me tell you one thing, Phil Gould was funkin the whole "Zeche" down to ground, never to forget. Excellent!
My understanding is that the Gould brothers wrote most of the lyrics but, having listened to a recent Mike Lindup interview which included him giving a brief description about the impressive lives and careers of his parents, I wonder if Mike wrote these lyrics, with the first few lines possibly about his incredible mother Nadine.
that was the dryest looking crowd man..South Auckland New Zealand woulda ripped it up....woulda had a crowd fullof air guitars and drums OMG..Wish they came here
He probably inspired more guys (and the occasional girl) to play Bass than any other musician in the 80s.. their original album is still I'd say within my top 5 albums in any music genre.
When I was a Martian on the moon in space I was just a chimp without a face, in the frog pond on Jupiter I saw a fish I have seen it the doll believes it..👽👽👽👾👾👾😱😱😲😲😲😲😲🐸🐸🐸🐵🐵🐵🐒🐒🐒🐒
Zfunk wasnt that presence in Germany at the tyme. People gone there and Phil Gould killed em :D I was there, 10 percent musicians. 90 percent want-to-look-at :-) It was epic, i payed 18 deutschmark to look em, and had the funk in my stomach! PHIL GOULD is hardcore, period
@DaftSwank Yeah. Auto-tuner being the operative word here - Don't give rehashers any help let them write their own crap and not ruin someone else's stuff
Daft Punk or Calvin Harris should cover this with T-Pain singing. IMHO, the vocals would thoroughly dominate with much grooviness after being run through the auto-tuner . . .
Imagine seeing the Police and Level 42 on the same bill... Amazing

Mark didn't use his Starchild bass for this 😮!
The bassguitar here is a cherry red JayDee Supernatural Classic series 1 with saturn/crezent inlays.
I've got one myself.
He probably inspired more guys (and the occasional girl) to play Bass than any other musician in the 80s.. their original album is still I'd say within my top 5 albums in any music genre.
You one lucky bastard😤😤
MIIKKII LINDUP genijalac

Mark King
FAR FAR bettar than the weak-as-piss play nowadays.
what is the name of the drummer???
Phil Gould, his brother, is on drums. Boon Gould is on guitar..........who recently died.
NAME FROM THIS BASS PLEASE ...PLEASE ?????
How can the crowd be in the presnce of such magic and look like dawks haha
Zfunk wasnt that presence in Germany at the tyme.
People gone there and Phil Gould killed em :D

It was epic, i payed 18 deutschmark to look em, and had the funk in my stomach!
PHIL GOULD is hardcore, period
No room to move crowded
Two reasons
(1) it was 1983 and
(2) this was filmed in Germany
😂😂
Different gravy
NAME AND SERIOUS PLEASE ????
@DaftSwank Yeah. Auto-tuner being the operative
word here - Don't give rehashers any help let them
write their own crap and not ruin someone else's stuff
Who thinks this is better than shitty ass rap of today?
@BaTeRoLoZaNo Phil Gould.
Daft Punk or Calvin Harris should cover this with T-Pain singing. IMHO, the vocals would thoroughly dominate with much grooviness after being run through the auto-tuner . . .
