  • In this video it will be the first of my Dirted Filterless Fish Room Vlogs, basically when I don’t have a specific subject to talk about I will walk you around my fish and show you what I’m doing. In this one I’m looking for suggestions on where to add a new tank , remove some duckweed, trim some plants and add some leaves to my food web tanks.
    If you haven’t already please consider subscribing to my channel and join me in thinking outside the box and taking a step back into nature.

    Excellent vlog
    Some of my new favorite plants for the aquariums that you would love is creeping Jenny and creeping charlie... Looks great and grows well totally submerged. Stays nice and thick and so far has not got leggy
    I do hate duckweed... Feed my goldfish and koi with it sometimes

    Nice vlog and maintenance video! I thought maybe Gil had been sneaking around you fishroom putting stubbs mugs around 😂 Chris is a definitely a great person with a great channel! If I could just make a little suggestion? If you put a little water in the bucket you're putting the duckweed in, anybody you accidentally catch should go to the bottom in the water. Then once you get enough duckweed off the surface in the bucket, it should be really easy to see them. I just thought to mention it as it's saved a few shrimp for me 😅. Puff Daddy and the rest of the tanks are looking good! Have a great weekend 🙂👍

      Thank you very much Tara, yes Stubbs mug Ames’s in a lot of shots unlike Gil’s it wasn’t the intentional😂.
      That’s a great tip, there always winds up being some water at the bottom but I definitely think putting some in there first is a great idea.

    My goldfish love to scarf up all the duckweed I add to their tank. I have Rainbow shiners, too. Love them. I would think they would appreciate a bit of current, as they are a stream fish, but they are found in pools.

    • @pattys_aquatics
      @pattys_aquatics  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I used to feed it to my goldfish but know that I have too much of it it takes awhile for them to eat it and covers the surface of that tub thick. I give them alittle bit here and there. Yeah I could see that with the shiners but seem happy so far but definitely something to keep in mind. Thanks for watching 😁👍

    Too late now of course for you, but with my cinder block build I only put one block at the floor. This allowed me to have a 3 row build with the top row not too out of reach. Sometimes I do use a small step stool to do maintenance. Loving your tanks :)

    Patty moving tanks with deep substrates in place is too risky, even sliding a tank with two inches of heavy sand can lead to a crack or worse. A bit of draining and sliding the plastic pond is definitely doable, but from what you showed not sure you can fit in blocks to support a shelf above the pond. Sometimes we have to 'bite the bullet' and take out the substrate, the good news is with sand, a larger diameter tube will allow you to syphon out the substrate, once fish and plants are out. You have the height to syphon. Take care and good luck.

    • @pattys_aquatics
      @pattys_aquatics  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks William, yeah I pondered this decision for quite awhile, the thought of moving any of those tanks made me nervous so I made a compromise with the wife with the pond 😁. Still in the process of organizing and documenting it all. Thanks for watching 😁👍

    Since your wife loves the goldfish, you could get a large tank and keep it upstairs for the goldfish! And then if you don’t want the pond you can get rid of it.

    • @pattys_aquatics
      @pattys_aquatics  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      She probably would love that😁 I used to keep the 75 upstairs with my puffer but my floor is very bouncy and when the kid and dog run around the tank would shake so I don’t think I will ever keep a big tank upstairs again. Her and the kid want an axolotl and that’s doable. Great idea though Talisa. 😁👍

    Wow lots to discuss here. First those 3 tanks besides the hex. Could they be moved up it seems like a lot of open space on that wall. While you have many smaller and interesting tanks i always look forward to seeing the 75. Having the new 65 at a more central level I think would help fill in that hole and provide more balance to the room. Next in random order duck weed,i love it and take it out with a comb every couple weeks. What are the main leaves you are using in the jars,i notice oak which seems to take forever to breakdown.? The 75 is really looking a lot clearer and settled,maybe just waiting it out is working? The hair algae I had that and found in time after manually removing as much as I could it just vanished. Really enjoy the laid back approach you bring and your acceptance to feedback. Good luck with whatever you decide but certainly leave that pond there hehe😏

    • @pattys_aquatics
      @pattys_aquatics  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those tanks could certainly be moved and that is a great idea. I filmed this like 2 weeks ago and today started to clear out where I’m putting it. That being said I like your idea and may do that still in the future.
      I’m using mostly oak and yes they take awhile for them to break down which I don’t mind but want to get a few different types of leaves for some diversity. Yeah the hair algae is doing very good in that tank , a little less every week.
      Thanks for watching I appreciate your support Ken😁👍
