One comment to clarify- in the Polish, original version of the song in the refrain lyrics don't say "the tree by the wayside salutes us" (A przed nimi drzewa salutują) but rather the BANNER POLES (A przed nimi DRZEWCE salutują, w rozumieniu- drzewce sztandarów, czyli tyczki na których sztandary są zamocowane). It's a common mistake even among Polish people, but the song means the military banners are being lowered to salute the soldiers. Not some kind of magical saluting tree like Ents from Lord of the Rings.

I doubt that parts of the German minority in Poland after 1918 were pro-Polish as there weren't treated favourably by the Polish government.

Fantastische Übersetzung! Ein Lied, das mir sehr am Herzen läge, wäre das Titelliede 'Rosza Czerwona' aus dem Film 'Jak roszpentalem wwII' (Wie ich den 2.WK überlebte), es ist ein Film aus den 70ern und lief auch zu meiner Kindheit immer am Weihnachten. Es hat eine schöne Melodie und ist bestimmt ein super Projekt!

The person who translated the lyrics of this song into German is a true virtuoso. The wife, who is a former German teacher, says that the translation was not done perfectly, because it is not difficult to translate the words themselves, but to do it in such a way that the rhyme, rhythm and general meaning match.

If by similarity you mean music, then sure, there are few similarities, but if you had lyrics on mind, no, it is very far - one is making pride from being a bandit (looting court, setting fire to monastery roof, raping and killing innocent, lynching) while the other is about being an infantryman

Its confusing. Song about polish soldiers who fights with Germans (for example) song in german
It's from WW1, the song was sung by the Polish soldiers fighting alongside the Germans against the Russians.
Poles fought on both sides, but generally there was a higher percentage of volunteers among the ones who fought for the germans as opposed to the Poles who fought for the Russians, who were just conscripted into the Tsarist army.
Germany promised Poland an Independent Kingdom if they were to win the war.
Now, that Kingdom would have been much smaller than what the Poles gotbin our timeline, but in 1914 and 1915 noone knew that Russia would collapse and Germany would lose allowing Poland to get lands from both sides, and many favoured a small independent kingdom over continuation of Russian rule.
Why did you change the text?

Tercio, I assume it's supposed to represent the fact, that it's a Polish song in German, so it's a Polish-German eagle, that looks like a Polish eagle, but with black colour of the German one.

Ad your “Tercio” - shouldn’t it be TERTIO if it’s supposed to be Latin? - we are not at a bullfight, “tercio” is Spanish, not Latin: NO, you don’t make friendship by conflating two very different symbols (maybe learn why the German eagle is black, where it comes from) of two very different nations which have always been in conflict from times immemorial (and one was always a victim of the other…), it’s just an appropriation of a national symbol. The Germans would never recognise that eagle as a German eagle, and for the Poles, that eagle is blackened, like dragged through coal - or just dirty… not a nice association for any country’s national emblem! You don’t make friends like that, it’s just a travesty! Veto!

Da gehen die Meinungen ja sehr auseinander, genau wie bei dem Thema solche Lieder überhaupt ins Deutsche zu setzen.
Bei diesem Lied hatte ich tatsächlich kurz überlegt den Vorschlag zu machen ihn für "meine Version" etwas abzuändern. Nur ein paar kleine Änderungen und ich hätte dies Lied aus Frauensicht singen können. Habe den Gedanken dann doch verworfen.
