    Cool signal knockdown and that's a huge trestle! Just a few minutes ago NS train hit 2 trees here, we have 60 mph winds today!

    • @JawTooth
      @JawTooth  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Oh wow! I hope they didn't get any damage. It's very windy here today also. Too windy for me to film. When I was filming this it was about to blow me over a few times so I stayed home today. I gotta pick branches up all over the yard. Lol. Are you filming right now?

      You young people, I swear in my day I we'd duct the camera to our hands. Then have someone tie us to a tree. 60mph winds be darned. And we liked it!😂😂

    My sister lived just up on that hill overlooking the town! I was always fascinated by the shear size of that bridge and just how dominated by railroads the town of Kenova is. It makes you feel like you are living in a life-size model train layout designed solely for a railfan's enjoyment haha

    This area is incredible! Visited both sides of the river several years ago. The big bridge is a marvel of construction. the shorter spans are all around 300 ft +/-. The center span is 500 ft plus! This bridge was new in 1914 and was built around the old bridge to keep trains running and on the original piers. When finished the old one was removed from inside with very little traffic disruption! Another good video!

      Jaw Tooth nice show. As I was looking at that trestle and seeing all those man safety places,with White Railings, along the bridge I was thinking they might of been for something else. Just the other day was a post of an old steam engine crossing a trestle in AZ. along the bridge were all those man safety places but each one has a barrel. One common said they were Fire Barrels, anyone have an answer.

    • @MrBillCNW
      @MrBillCNW ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joemc111 that’s correct. Years ago and bridges were made of wood they kept the barrels filled with water just case of a fire.

    Back in the late 1960s, I spent a lot of time photographing (what was then the Norfolk & Western) trains crossing the bridge. At that time, the bridge had a platform on both sides, so you could stand at track level. The reason the platform was there was that N&W was still running passenger trains. The station was located on the geographic west side close to the C&O tracks. The platform and depot were removed some time after passenger service ended on May 1, 1971.

      I can only assume when they say knock down a signal they are referring to it reverting to a more restrictive aspect. Either way a very clickbaity title on an average video. Not sure why its being commented on like an Oscar winner tbh.

    • @electricboyo
      @electricboyo ปีที่แล้ว

      The block signal changes from green to red at 2:10. Just when the engine passes the signal post. The block signal is at the top of the post. I’m not certain what the lower signal on this post indicates. It could be the state of a switch (turnout).

    Thank you for this tease video of some of the trains that you saw in the Kenova, West Virginia area on 2 March 2023, Jaw Tooth! That was a great catch of the Norfolk Southern train on the trestle knocking down the signal. The flashing red light on the rear of the Norfolk Southern local engine that was coming at us was an end-of-train marker. The conductor more than likely attached it to the engine when they dropped off the cars that the engine was pulling. The lighting at the Ashland, Kentucky Amtrak Station was exactly right for you to capture the CSX mixed freight that passed you. I am looking forward to see more videos from this this latest trip that you made to the Kenova, West Virginia area.

    Really cool to see that big train running over that big bridge! Or is it a "viaduct"? It may be camera perspective, but it looks like the track is descending as the train completes its crossing and exits the bridge. Is the track actually descending, or is it just the ground coming up at that end of the bridge?

    Really enjoyed that video too and yes I love Bridges especially railroad Bridges because they are a wonderful engineered thing.
    I work for the Chesapeake Western back in the early 70s when I went to work for them but we had a bridge called Tanyard bridge and it was at Keezletown and it was a wooden bridge it started getting pretty well dilapidated and I'm sure they didn't want to run many heavy trains over it and this was back in the steam days but anyhow what they did they fill that hole void in with dirt and made it a land track now we're talkin about a span of about couple hundred feet long and maybe maybe 40 ft High. But I've seen pictures of both before and it amazes me how they filled it in!
    Thanks again for sharing your videos, the only things that are more beautiful then trains and bridges are more trains and bridges......

    Awesome video, yes that trestle is really long. Amazing location to film trains.

    that area has the most unique railroad setup! I just hope NS doesn't screw up there, otherwise, it could be worse than east Palestine

    Did that lone locomotive have a FRED on it? What?
    The bridge is awesome and the night shot was NICE. I never miss a video, JT. Thanks so much. Kenova is a good place to watch trains.
