Job site safety on 🤔 Baker style scaffolding

  • Emphasizing the importance of doing daily inspections on Baker style scaffolding used for interior work. Making sure all pins and connection points are solid and secure. Oiling Wheels and checking the brakes and wheel locks can greatly improve your experience with this scaffolding that can be rented or bought for most home improvement stores.

I like the custom handrail with tool storage, I'll copy that!

Bought my scaffolding from Harbor Freight, and leveling jacks from Tractor Supply - Metaltech Set of Hollow Levelling Jacks on Base Plate, M-MBSJP24HK4. You can also ratchet straps to reduce spreading at bottom.
I need to figure at a DIY safety rail for the HF Franklin set.

Thanks for the video. I bought 2 used sets and I asked the original owner if all the locking pins come with it. However, after picking up the 2 sets, I went through all the bars and castor wheels to see if they're all there. Only the castor wheels had them. So, I'm buying a set of PTO locking pin sets - they're not that expensive but necessary (as you have mentioned many times in the video and it can't be stressed enough for safety). I also like your homemade rail with the 4 peforated steel square tubes. However, I went to pretty much every store and online metal supplier for those 1-1/4" perforated tubes. Each 3-foot tube costs like $50! Multiply that by 4 and it's around $200+tax!!! I can't believe how expensive these perforated steel square tubes are. For that price, I decided to get one of those Baker scaffold rails from PrincessAuto (in Canada) for $149+tax.

Thanks for watching and commenting. Wow , Canada is expensive. I bought them from Lowe's in the US for around $9.00 to $12.00 each.

I like to put small clamps on the corner on the boards. I also use strap tie downs in an X pattern on the sides just to keep it steadier. I have several of these and use the other cross members for the safety cage. I also must made 2X4 outriggers that I use when outside on it. But I really like your handrails....I will be doing that.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I like your idea of the ratchet straps for x bracing. That would tighten it up 👍🏻👍🏻 good. Thanks for the idea.

I got rid of the pins that join the ladder sections... they are 5/16" pins in 1/2" holes, that sloppiness adds a lot of the shakiness, which compounds as you add levels.
I use 1/2" x 2-1/2" bolts with flat washers and locknuts. Yeah, it takes a bit longer to set up the scaffolding, but it's well worth the added stability, and it eliminates the issue of someone tampering with the pins. That, along with using ratchet tie down straps in the X pattern on the sides, makes for a very stable setup.

Good video Ron. It’s a good reminder that we need to check the little things on the job site. Thanks again for the video’s.

Thanks for watching Tim. I just hope enough people see this video on small things to look for so as, no one gets hurt.

Since you have 4 sets you can use side bars from other 2 minus the platforms to make it less wobble. Thanks for the video.

The title says job safty as you role the scaffold around while you are standing on top of it 🙏🏼👍🏼

Thanks for watching and commenting Joe. Sometimes safety takes extra time, that the job doesn't allow. I pray for my safety on this thing too. Can be kinda rickety at times.

Now that I've seen how you made your hand rails up top I wish I'd gone that route. I bought the kit and I'm not a fan. The scaffold itself was a good investment. I run some cheap ratchet straps from the bottom rung on one side to the top on the other (4 total) and there's very little wiggle after for a couple minutes worth of additional setup. Probably wouldn't bother if it was just a single but when stacked there's a fair bit of play. I'm going to have to pick up some perforated tubing. Thanks for sharing the idea.

Great video, but one thing you should be aware: don’t ever let any other trades borrow your scaffolding; if, god forbid, it falls over or someone falls off of it, you can be sure you will be listed as a defendant in a law suit. I’ve seen it happen to a carpenter I know. He lost his business over it. Same goes for ladders. Do not let anybody not under your own employ use your tools and equipment if at all possible

I appreciate you telling me about that. I always wondered if that made me responsible 🤔

Great video! Hey when you have a 12' version setup, do you think it would be fine to only use outriggers on one side so it'll snug up closer to the wall that's being worked on? Like say 8" off the wall?

    • @workingmanrondoyle3287
      @workingmanrondoyle3287  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, I've done it many times. Just be careful about it. You could lay some sand bags across the the opposite side's outriggers for stability.

@@workingmanrondoyle3287 oh yeah! That's a great idea...heck I could put a board across the outriggers and use several sandbags! Thank you for that idea!
