    I love your attitude. Our Ancestors didn’t have any fancy gadgets to measure heat but they made soap without perfect measurements.

    After seeing so many soap making videos where they're tip-toeing throughout the entire process, it's so damn refreshing to see someone RELAX, assemble the ingredients and just make some frappin' soap, dammit.

    I love that you say you don't have to worry about temps and be all fussy with making soap. And I love that you don't wear gloves and glasses and stuff. Lol. I don't wear any protective stuff or worry about temps when making my soap. I too am mostly about function over fussy. I don't even know how to do a swirl. Lol. Though I do love to watch Katie do it on royalty soaps. I just make very basic soaps. Lol

    When I started saying, I was going nuts but trying to get the temps within range. I ended talking to a couple of so soap makers. They taught to soap at room temperature. It was a game changer. Now my soaps look and perform way better. Got my confidence up in the craft as well. Even made two batches of Pine Tar.👍🏻

    Just rewatched your making simple soap recipe. This recipe is what made you my favorite soaper to watch; a lot of others frustrate me to no end with soap making rules. That brought me to this...I don't remember anyone ever saying this, but surely I'm not the only one that can tell by smell when soap has reached the point in mixing that it will set up. The trace test is what I always go by, but at about that time the smell of the soap changes subtly. I don't know how to explain it, but I think that is the point of suponification. I know. I over think. But it was interesting to me.

    • @unclejonssoap
      @unclejonssoap  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've smelled it too! But for me, it's more of an overall feeling. I can feel slight changes through my hand and the mixer ( most days).

    Ok, now you need to make a video that goes into detail sodium lactate. I have never heard of it and I have a recipe (of my own) that comes out REALLY soft in the beginning. It has a lot of goodies like pureed cucumber, aloe leaf, rice milk (home-made), home grown mulberry silk (dissolved in the lye water before pouring) and green clay. I know, it's not simple but OH MA GAH the lather is just divine and leave my hands feeling nice.

    • @unclejonssoap
      @unclejonssoap  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can do an info vid about sodium lactate for sure! Although, your soap may just always be soft. The pureed stuff tends to do that to soap. Making it harder may not work.. or could kill that lather. But I'll definitely work on the sodium lactate video😁

    • @unclejonssoap

      That's a tough one. We're always changing up. Companies have had to raise their prices so high in the last few years that you almost have to shop around each time you run out. Also,many of the well known compayare being bought out by larger company, and then they raise the prices. It's tough out there. Might be time to come up with some alternative recipes.

      3.25" wide x 2.5" high x 21" long. All interior dimensions. That gives me exactly 24 bars at 7/8" thick. It also leaves a little room at the top so it doesn't overflow the mold.

    Hi, I’m new to making soap (haven’t done one yet 🙄, but I will ) and all the videos I watched made it look soooo complicated ,I’m so happy I found yours 😀. I have only one question, so... I don’t have to use distilled water for the lye??
    Thank you!

      It really depends on the quality of your water. If you have water that you wouldn't be afraid to drink, then it's perfectly fine for soap making.

    Do you have any other recipes, or can I sub something else for the soy flakes? Thanks

      You can definitely substitute other oils. The key is to get comfortable with your lye calculator so you can figure out which oils you want in your final recipe. I recommend soapcalc.net

    What’s the proper protocol if you do accidentally spill your lye water?

      Lots of cursing! Then,get a bucket and a mop with some fresh water. Keep mopping and dumping I til the lye is all neutralized. Then find a big fan to dry the floor. The worst part would be trying to move that big work bench to get underneath and clean. That would suck! But really nothing special.
