    Have you ever used the warranty or the LSA to make a claim on your tools?

      You need to register your new tools under lsa again or they will be not covered.

      Yes and several times on different tools.
      I would not recommend anyone who wants to buy a Ridgid based on the LSA.
      Me personally my repair center is over 30 miles away so I have to take time away from working to go and drop off a tool then wait 6 months cuz they're always so far backlogged and that entire time you are without the tool.the repair centers will only replace what is damaged i e if a brush goes bad they replace that one brush so a week 2 weeks later I'm having to take my drill back because the bearing went bad.
      I just had the grinder break the lock mechanism and I couldn't get my blade out of the chuck I beat it with a sledgehammer out of frustration granted this void my warranty but I will no longer be needing it as I'm taking all of my tools that I bought to the pawn shop and I'm going to buy something of more quality like Makita or maybe Milwaukee the quality of the tools I would not place much higher than Ryobi

    I have been building for over 40 years period in the eighties all we used was Makita. Then I started using the DeWalt and so did all of my workers. In the past five years we have all switch to rigid. I have had two drills go bad and they were both replaced with new brushless. They give you the option to send it into a service center yourself but I just took mine to the Home Depot rental department. One of the managers opened up a brand new box and gave me a brand new drill and put my old drill in the box and returned it to vendor. There is no other tool in the industry that gives you this warranty. Sometimes the weight really sucks. But to me it is definitely worth it.

    • @TheGarywilliams
      @TheGarywilliams 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Because you did that you no longer have a lifetime service agreement for that drill if you call the lifetime service agreement hotline they will tell you that often home Depot will do that for its customers but they're not supposed to and that cancels out your warranty as the serial number for the tool has now changed without being updated

    • @tcidevelopment5996
      @tcidevelopment5996 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@TheGarywilliams I completely agree with you. However, I called them that day and they updated the serial number. I know they did not have to do that and that is not their policy but they did it for me anyway. I guess circumstances are different for different people. I see a lot of tool reviews paint comparisons on TH-cam. But I have had great success with ridgid. I use Makita DeWalt Ridgid Milwaukee oh, and I do not see any difference between those and all of my guys on my crew and all of the people that work for me all have those same tools. After building for over 40 years I can honestly say I don't see any difference between any of these quality tools. I appreciate your reply.

    I've switch from an aging Milwaukee combo kit with a drill, impact and Sawzall in 2017. Built my ridgid 18v line up with almost everything they offer. I use them alot as a commercial electrician. I've had two issues in that time only with LEDs. My 3000 lumen light cannon burnt out, was replaced with a new one and shipped to my door. The last one was the LEDs on my impact driver stopped working and they fixed that after 3 weeks with waiting for parts and such. All and all I recommend ridgid whenever I can and they can push as hard as any other tool brand imo. As an electrician many people have Milwaukie but ridgid is Milwaukie in orange disguise both being built by tti. You can't beat the LSA and batteries are even covered 😃 it's a no brainer with my experience. Those 3 week waiting periods are nothing when you have options in your tool arsenal.

    The LSA service agreement is the reason I bought into these tools years ago ... my Rigid thickness planer went down after 11 years of service and received a newer model for the replacement as parts where not available to repair. I've been very happy with all Rigid tools and the LSA..

  • @tjm3900
    @tjm3900 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Here in Canada the LSA is handled by a local repair shop that acts as an agent. I have claimed on batteries that after years were not taking a full charge. I just phone in with the old serial # and they order a new battery. About a week later I go down and exchange batteries. At pick up I am given a phone # to register the new battery.
    I had a drill burn out (likely brushes) I had to drop off the drill and two weeks later got the drill with a new motor in it.
    It works well for me!

    Haven't used it with a tool but I've had 2 octane batteries replaced - messaged them on the warranty website and after about 15 minutes, they had a replacement order setup and on the way. Took about a week to get to my place. As straight forward as it gets.
    Edit: Then obviously you have to call in and give them the new serial and they'll add it to your list.

    I can't believe all the negative comments I'm seeing about Ridgid's warranty service/LSA. I love Ridgid. I had an orbital sander that died after 3 years. There was a service center in the city I lived in. I dropped it off and 3 weeks later I picked up one that wasn't new but it was in better condition than the one I dropped off. I was happy.
    Fast forward 7 years, one of my 18V hammer drills stopped working (purchased in 2013). I called up and found out the nearest service center was now 200 miles away (I had moved across the country). The service tech told me that they would just send me a new one. I also asked him about 2 of my batteries that were dying. He said he'd include 2 new batteries in my order as well.
    Maybe I just got lucky with the service techs that I've dealt with. I'd suggest if you don't like the service resolution they offer, hang up and call back 😂.

    Thank you 1st of all for calling it an LSA instead of the dopes that call it a "lifetime warranty" my brushed gen 4x drill gears are sounding a little gritty, the drill works but it sounds like there is sand or something in it and that was t always the case.
    Since getting onto thr m12 line wit the hammer drill and impact i rarely get my Ridgid brushed 18v drill but something's not right .
    It happened when i was driving a long auger bit into a log to make a rocket stove log and the drill musta not liked it.
    If i send in my old Gen4x drill my fingers are crossed that they dont have one or want to fuck wit it and they send me a brushless one 👍
    I guess one thing you could do is put a simple sharpie dot in a spot specific spot and when you get said tool back look for your "birth mark" and see if was a repair or replacement.. im glad you had no issues with flack and cop outs on replacing the tools.. thanks man, i need to submit a ticket for my drill.. the traveling to and fro isnt a big deal for me.
    Just an FYI from what I've heard from other people is when you get the new replacement tool is to take that serial number and re-register that specific tool under their LSA so that new tool is covered

    Ideally. So an hour away from home depot, 2 hours round trip. Say you averaged about 50mph. Thats 100 miles round trip twice. Once to drop it off, one to pick it up. In a pick-up truck that gets 15mpg at $3.75 per gallon. 200 miles/15mpg=13.3gals x $3.75 = $50 in gas.

    I use Milwaukee on the job and Ridgid at my home shop. I have had to warranty both brands drills for the same reason - the trigger switch. No issues, just take it to an authorised repair centre. Despite the cost, for everyday construction use, Milwaukee hands down. DeWalt has improved it seems, just might consider them right after the M18. In the end, whatever gets the job done and works for you. Including corded, I own about 5 brands.

    In my limited exposure to Rigid, they only sell and service a particular revision for a short period of time. I borrowed a R350RHE framing nailer from a friend and it died 1/4 of the way in my project. I had to buy another tool to keep working. The tool they sell now is a R350RHF. After the project was over, I tried to buy parts and the ones I needed were discontinued. So I can't fix the tool. The original design was poor, so it's no surprise why it failed. The warranty is useless to me if it takes months to get a replacement product.

    Up until about 12 or so years ago, I did not have any kind of brand loyalty to anyone. That is when I bought my first rigid combo kit. It had a half inch 18 volt drill and a half inch 18 volt impact driver. And of course both tools and the batteries were covered as long as the serial numbers are registered online. A couple of years later, I did need a new or rebuilt battery, at the instruction of the Ridgid service department, I did bring in the battery into an authorized service center. After about a week or so, it was determined that I would be getting a new or rebuilt battery. The unfortunate thing that I did learn, is prior to this I did have another battery with an issue, it was simply replaced by one of the managers at Home Depot. But unfortunately this new battery that was replaced is no longer covered under the LSA. But that is fine, I did buy a 4 amp hour battery at that time, it has been about 8 years or so, and I have not had any issues with that for amp hour battery.

      Unless the HD store you go to has a tool repair service (usually the ones that also rent tools) you have to send the tool away or go a diff HD or designated repair location. To be fair, that tends to be the reality of any tool brand warranties. Maybe a "true" house brand will handle it at the store but even then they might make u wait for repairs.

    I got a brand new 7-1/4" Ridgid Octane circular saw yesterday. It looks exactly like yours, so yours must be new? My guess is it was purchased someone else, that returned before using it. When that happens, they sell the tool as "New, out of the box," for something like $10 less than normal price. However, giving to you as a replacement made it simpler for them.
    No cost parts. No cost repair. No cost replace, if needed! For all "registered" Ridgid tools and batteries!

    Let's say you use a tool for 5 years straight with no issues and after all that use the battery dies. Will Rigid replace the battery? I find that hard to believe that they can afford to replace every battery because of normal daily use and it being completely exhausted. That's like me asking my dealer to replace my brakes for free? Thanks for the video.

      If it was registered with LSA, it will get replaced. It used to be that batteries sold separately were not LSA. Only bats sold in kits were LSA. But that has changed and all bats are LSA. I had a 7 year old drill go bad. HD gave me an entire brushless drill kit - drill, 2 2ah bats, charger and bag. All registered as LSA. They also told me to keep my old bat and charger that are still LSA. HD kept the old drill.

    The chuck on my drill broke and the guy at the home depot rental desk said I'd have to pay them to ship it out and I'd get it back if it was fixed and that LSA might not cover it. Didn't inspire the most confidence. I found an authorized repair shop 30 minutes away from my home that was able to fix my drill in a day under LSA, free of charge. Home depot and ridgid needs to work on their process.. the counter guy did not inspire confidence he knew how to handle the service.

    No RIDGID won't just update your new tools serial numbers for you, you need to do that yourself (on-line or call it in) and you're on the 90 day clock again or you go back to the RYOBI-like 3yr. warranty. Get a new replacement tool or battery, you need to update the new serial numbers for it to continue on with your LSA. The guys who fix these tools said the smallest 1.5 ah batteries fail the most, battery wise. (Maybe that's why RIDGID is leaning towards including 2.0ah batteries in their newer kits) All these various tool platforms are crap if the batteries are not warrantied, which most are not. The only RIDGID trouble lies in the LSA (90 day deadline) hoops you need to jump through to initiate the warranties and keep them updated. On the RIDGID registration site you can DL one pic of the receipt, I often photo shop onto the pic, the tool's serial numbers.

    • @TheExcellentLaborer
      @TheExcellentLaborer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is great insight you provided. Yes the 90 day clock to register is something to keep in mind. I’m sure a lot of people don’t get the LSA because of that. I do need to call them. Because that’s the only way they will register the replacement tool. Thanks for watching!

    About 8 years ago I switched all my battery operated power tools to the 18V Rigid line because I was tired of wasting money on failed expensive rechargeable batteries (yes, Milwaukee, I'm talking about you), and Ridgid's lifetime warranty on batteries was too good to pass up. I now have about 2 dozen Ridgid 18V tools, lights and other products (and an assortment of corded Ridgid tools also because of their LSE). I'm a light DIYer, and have yet to have ANY Rigid product fail after HomeDepot's 90 day return period ended (but I have had a bunch that got returned during that period, which was relatively painless since I live 5 minutes from my HomeDepot). More aggressive DIYers or pros might have a different experience. However, I've always heard that while Ridged will generally makes good on any of its tools or batteries once you register your purchase (a process so annoyingly inconvenient and inefficient that one should assume that's by design to dissuade as many users as they can from getting beyond 3 years of warranty coverage), their painfully slow 'repair' process essentially requires most people to have a backup for the broken tool since (as you yourself found) the time it takes to get back in action is unbelievably slow. The fact that your broken tools were replaced with new or refurbed tools of a newer vintage are merely a confirmation of the fact that we live in a "disposable society", where the cost to repair almost everything is usually more than the cost of an off-the-shelf replacement (with painfully few exceptions). But what's amazing is that with that in mind, why does it take months to get a new tool? Rigid should have the replacement sent out within a day or 2 of their examination of the broken tool. If Rigid and HomeDepot were even more efficient, the user would get an email with a certificate number telling them to go to their HomeDepot and pick out a free replacement that they specify, and Rigid and HomeDepot would work things out behind the scenes. Like I said, if they were efficient. But nonetheless, I'll still be sticking with Rigid because while I'm usually careful with my tools, the batteries fail just with the passage of time, and I expect that soon my older batteries will start seeing the end of their usefulness. One final thing: since I studiously stick to the Ridgid line of batteries, and Ridgid doesn't make everything I need in battery operated devices, so when that happens, I have several Ridgid to Ryobi adapters that I got inexpensively on eBay that allow me to use any 18V Ryobi device without having to get another line of batteries (which don't have an LSE).

  • @OldfartRC1

    I have had great luck with Ridgid LSA over the past 10 years.
    Usually most of my tools get repaired. Only once was it replaced with new because of some mix up.
    Had some of my batteries replaced no questions asked and i find their telephone customer support to be pretty good. Overall if you don't mind waiting for repairs the Ridgid line is pretty good.
    But if you a hardcore pro contractor that can't wait a few weeks for tool repair then pick something else and buy a new one when it goes bad.

If they determine it was my fault they were going to charge me up to $100.00 to fix without my approval. I didn’t even pay $100 for the drill. I’m so damn mad I said screw you effectively. Their batteries are horrible also. I have 2 dead 4.0 Amp hour batteries. I’ll never buy another Ridgid product again. I would be ok if they charged me nothing and told me I damaged the tool, but you don’t get that option they will fix it without your approval if it cost less than $100.
