Agreed, bloodhounds step takes no skill, but im not intending to subject any players to this build(that would be unethical). Also I’m coming back to this comment anyway I’m going to note that prelates hammer with stamp(upward cut) is a good secondary weapon for this build.
I use heavy golem's halberd with flame of the redmanes, a great shield and the assassin talismans. Every critical you do recovers the cost of two redmane blasts. Only the falling starbeast jaw will stagger bosses more often.
Trolls hammer is also buffable. This makes it good for a faith strength build as you can use electrify armament to give it 3 damage types, or you can buff the fire damage with bloodflame or black blade. And even though the faith scaling isn’t high, it’s still there meaning your still getting dual use out of your faith stat. Pair it with the clawmark seal or you could go full strength and use greases. Fire physik and charm also boost the damage
As always great video, but I believe you forgot to mention one thing about Troll's Hammer. It can be buffed just like the great club. This makes it possibly one of the best weapons for buffing because it already has fire damage and can get another type of damage on top of it. I would actually recommend using it with Beast Claw seal and then try to fit all type of weapon buffs you can have so you can adapt to your environment. Also to have free fire damage is amazing from a PvE stand point since it can stun lock a variety of enemies.
They really played Ghiza’s wheel smart. Because if that thing had insane bleed build up and more stagger, it would absolutely break the game. And when I first got it, it was op. But in later NG+s, it really loses its potential.
LOL nice name, I would definitely have to agree with it, glad I quit as well...my buddy didn't really play D1 and I no lifed it from launch night the when D2 dropped I was bitching all the time and he'd always say "why u hate destiny so much for?" Oh and I totally agree on ghizas wheel, could u imagine if the spin up did rivers of blood type bleed build up hahahahaha
they became my main build since facing Commander Niall...none of my previous weapons (mostly halberds and curved greatswords) were able to interrupt the frost windup of the banished knights (mainly the one with two swords whose attacks would oneshot me constantly) but the Golem's Halberds did that and they trivialised these fuckers from then on. Been using two of them with frost and they hit like trucks...their range and how cool they look is what really made me prefere them over all the other collosal weapons even into NG+ when I had two of every one
Charged R2 1 and Charged R2 2 are also incredible fast compared to all colossal weapons and as faster to faster than most other weapons classes as well.
For my own reference: Great Club w/ Faith investment looks interesting if I want to do another Faith-based build, though for the moment I'm drawn to other types of builds, especially since so much of the late game resists holy. Watchdog's Staff is quite cool, didn't even know this weapon existed. Seems very versatile without much stat investment, and I like the idea of dual-wielding with Dragon Greatclaw. Seems like it may not be the best for NG++ and beyond but if I only wanted to go to NG+ I'd be very interested to try this and see how far past that I can get. Rotten Staff seems like a bad joke on the part of the developers, but the prospect of dual-wielding with Rotten Axe is interesting, possibly making up for the Axe's shorter range. In general two Rotten Axe's with poison infusion ( eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Ash+of+War:+Poisonous+Mist ) looked to me to be among the most promising of these build options for NG++ and beyond because of the % health damage. Not overly impressed with Ghiza's Wheel having a near-useless Ash of War, but the bleed buildup could be quite promising. The weapon certainly looks threatening, aesthetically. I like the idea of pairing it with the jellyfish shield. Golem's Halberd + greatshield is the build that speaks to me the most naturally, being a non-unique weapon I can buff however I like and still maintaining the "standard" playstyle of weapon with shield. The fact I can get it early means I can likely use this in place of some late game weapon until it drops, and it looks as though I'll even have options to still use it in later playthroughs. While it may not be the most exciting option this kind of weapon is usually my favorite simply due to how much flexibility it affords me. Yet another bad joke from Fromsoft that Prelate's is somehow not a unique weapon where giant random hobo stick Great Club is. While Prelate has a lot of options I'm not overly drawn to any one of them in particular, but it's something good to keep in mind. In summary: Golem's Halbert + greatshield for early build, has options late game and NG+. Dual Rotten Axe with poison infusions is what I'd like to try the most for NG++, can possibly fit a Rotten Staff in for NG or NG+ where I may not have a second poison infusion. Ghiza's Wheel + jellyfish is a unique build featuring a cool weapon, and has this famous bleed damage I hear is all the rage these days. Watchdog's Staff + Dragon Greatclaw is another unique build featuring two cool weapons with more versatility in damage types but may fall off the later the game goes.
I’ve tried them all and the best for me by far is duel wielding the Grafted Blade Greatswords. I combo buff with Flame O strength and Golden Vow, then hit L2 weapon art which raises all my stats by 5pts. I use claw medallion and wear the raptors black Feathers both boosting Jump Attacks. I then obliterate bosses and everything else using jump attacks with L1 which duel slams both Greatswords. The low weight is one of the best in the colossal class so I can also wear decent armor for defense and poise. Try this setup, and u will dominate PVE and PVP.
In pvp that setup is useless as its a pure jumpattack build...get a giant crusher and offhand a flame seal paired with giantsflame take thee and giantsflame rain down upon thee incantation...it takes a whole lot of work getting those spells and seal but worth it as u will massively increase ur ranged options and the giantsflame incantations are the best ones u can get fire-wise
I swapped from the greatsword the giant crusher. And I love it thematically and it hits hard, but it covers half the screen making it hard to see, and it's roll attack is aweful. The poke on the greatsword is an awesome move but the giant crusher slams by your feet and has 0 range.
Colossal Axes should be a separate category with different animations especially for the dodge attack cause currently the awful hammer animations make them so so bad, If stuff like axe of godfrey just had a slash after dodging instead of that abysmal stabbing your own feet which is never useful they it would be able to be such a fun weapon, As is there just isn't any good colossal axes especially ones that look good. Was devastated when I fully upgraded that Godfreys axe just to find out its got an abysmal attack animation and very little damage for how slow it is which sucks as its the best looking colossal weapon and best looking axe by far.
Mi favorite greataxe will always be the black knight Greataxe from DS3 , the animation, good damage and design made them one of my favorite weapons from the souls series. I was also a little disappointed when I realized the greataxes in this game where basically colossal Hammer but with standard damage.
Small tip for the Golem's Halberd, to get it first try from a golem before any boss, you can find one a little further from, the Colosseum into the east where a lone golem is lying on the ground. That one pretty much always gave it to me the first time
Thank you for these videos! I've referenced them many times while playing to see the pros and cons of any weapon type I'm considering, I would love to see curved greatswords!
Just switched from powerstancing Grafted Greatsword and Guts Greatsword to 2 handing Radhan's Greatsword last night. Being able to powerstance while only worrying about the weight of one weapon is amazing. Was actually able to equip decent armour 😂
Colossal weapons are indeed the best weapons at least for me. The rest of the weapons dont allow for such favorable traits and you have to evade too many attacks and your retaliation is minuscule whereas with a big badass weapon each strike is always significant towards taking out the boss. Plus mobs even some of the bigger ones are staggered for quite some time leaving them no room for retaliation.
My favorite things about holy damage is that they give you all the cool holy damage weapons and incantations in the late game where they are resisted by basically everything thank you fromsoft
Last night I beat the final boss for the first time with the Godslayer's Greatsword. Theme appropriate, it was the only weapon I wanted to use during that fight, even though I have never in any of these games wielded colossal weapons, greatswords being the largest. I was worried I wouldn't get the timings right, but I took to it surprisingly quickly and love it a lot now! I will definitely look into using other great weapons like that thanks to this experience and I'm curious to see what other weapons might peak my interest in this video.
Objectively, I think Fallingstar, Prelate's, and Staff of the Avatar I think are the best (and probably in that order) But I play fashion souls Golem's Halberd just looks so cool!
Fellas, I stand and swear by the Great Club, in terms of utility and absolute style. It is THE perfect weapon for a Tree Sentinel build, because of what it does and how it looks. I made a 125 build in which I can actually wear full sentinel armor, plus the Great Club, plus the Erdtree Greatbow, AND the Erdtree's Greatshield. It is as glorious as it is wooden and golden :D
Thanks a bunch for these videos. I'm trying to put together my fashion souls build so I'm experimenting with a lot of weapons, but some of them are outright unpleasant to use. Hearing a second opinion helps a ton
Cuckoo knight armor + carian royal helm Distinguished greatshield with shield crash and any weapon with royal knights resolve. I like the mace Lance and banished halberd for a knight look Insane amounts of damage and tankiness. Looks great too.
Using giant crusher to beat malenia, I found something really funny. If you have the two handed talisman, the claw talisman, cragblade, and some decent strength, you can kinda crit-lock malenia. If you break her stance and get the riposte, immediately do a fully charged heavy, she'll fall flat on her face and then follow it up with a heavy jump attack, her stance will break again, ready for another riposte, however you need an ungodly ammount of stamina to even riposte her again
I'm rather fond of the falling star beast jaw and dragon greatclaw/golems halberd dual wielding, fallingstar beast jaw has a really good ash of war, great damage potential and if you go golems halberd I like to go frost damage for enemies with a lot of health and you can throw on a decent ash of war to swap to as an alternative to gravity
02:40 i saw that too. when i use a scythe on one of those smaller enemys and backstab them, i get the dagger effects 2 times. i thought its probably because the 'backstab-animation' for these enemys was way longer (standard enemy 4sec / small enemy 8sec). but it seems like the colossal weapons do have also a longer animation. thats what i assume at least.
High reach makes golems halberd actually very nice with ashes most ashes, lions claw hits further away, follow up heavies (my preference being trolls roar) also can have more reach then the ash of war you used so it can help catch out people and enemies from further back that aren't ready to avoid it.
Ngl, I was happy af when Cas saw just how broken the Beast Jaw's ash is. I'm hoping before you are finished with the ER content that you make a tier list on which ash is the most broken.
I know the Godskin Swaddling Cloth is pretty bad but using it on the Ghiza's Wheel is actually really effective. You'll essentially get a heal off of almost every one handed Charged R2. I've been usingbit with the Winged Sword Insignia (don't have the Rotten or Prosthesis yet) Godskin Swaddling and Lord of Blood Exultation (which also procs incredibly easily since it's incredibly easy to make enemies bleed with a Charged R2). It's doing big numbers with a lil healing to compensate for taking hits.
I know im late to the party, but something id like to note as a godfrey cosplayer is that the axes uncharged r2 after the buff is incredibly fast and still quite powerful. you can use the weapon art before a battle and then run in and get 2 quick hits to greatly diminish the poise of opponents
I almost never do strength builds, first playthrough at level 80 I'm mainly doing a dex and magic build which works well with me, my Poleblade and Staff/Seal. Might try a strength build in NG+ just to be able to see how good these weapons are.
STR builds take a little bit of investment to really get going, since they don't apply status like DEX builds, but once they get going, you will Believe in Bonk. It feels amazing to just say "HULK SMASH" and flatten everything you come across. Timing against bosses, however, can truly be a pain, and some of them barely leave enough time for a colossal weapon to punish an opening.
The fallingstar beast jaw made Melania a joke in both my first and second playthrough... I tried to fight her with another weapon just so I could get a taste of what everyone was talking about, died 2 times, said 'Ok that's it', switched weapons and proceeded to respectfully destroy her(ofcourse I also used a mimic)...
A quick (slightly cheesy) tip for weapons like the Rotten Staff. If you have the Rot talisman, just summon the Mimic and then swap to a different weapon. On top of being able to split boss aggro, you get a HUGE damage boos if/when your mimic procs the status.
Something I noticed for prelates is poisonous mist is a decent ash of war for it, if you hit them with swing it does the damage of 2 handed charged heavy attack.
These weapon types are even better now with the new talismans. Get two hand talisman and blade of mercy with the deflecting tear and you will be boinking bosses for 1/4 of their health
Actually Envoys great horn can also be gained by farming the enemy in altus platue. Although it is very low drop rate i got it in 7th try with 103 item discovery
I use Giant crusher with Fingerprint shield, using the colossal hammer to do the guard-counters since it has the highest poise breaking damage of all weapons while doing that :D.
The earliest colossal to obtain is the watchdog staff, and along the BJ claw are the only ones that allow for shielder builds, whereas the golem weappn allows for the perfect ranged build with erdtree shield.
Yo still this day old reliable for me is the Giant Crusher with Lion's Claw. If I ever get hung up on a boss I pull that thing out and stagger the heck out of them, it's just super satisfying.
Has any other game in history gotten covered like Elden ring has? I mean everything in the game has a video. It’s crazy. I’m 40 and have been gaming since the 80’s. I don’t remember anything getting covered like this before. Maybe breath of the wild but I don’t think that even. FromSoft is something special. I’m so curious what they do next. It’s gonna be hard to top this so I would imagine what comes next is gonna be a departure and something outa left field. Maybe a return to roots. Idk. It’s gonna be really interesting to see what they do next.
I’m really enjoying the Devourers Scepter… really good for a Str/Faith build, pair with FGMS buff and exalted flesh and u start doing big damage quick… then there’s the healing aspect of the wep art. Gotta get big boy poise though
How goofy is it that after you stance break an enemy with your colossal weapon, you then tap them a few times with the shaft of your axe, hammer, or such?
22:24 Sure it's strange that the "ROAR Medallion" doesn't synergize with the "Regal ROAR", but it's even stranger that the "GODFREY Icon" doesn't synergize with the "Axe of GODFREY"
When I use a spirit summon, it's almost always Crystalian. I deal enough damage, thank you. When I need a summon, it's to draw the enemy's attacks, and survive longer than 15 sec.
...Why are collesal swords and collas weapons different? Just spent a minute looking through the vid cuz I wanted to see what he had to say about Starscourge.
Jaw does piercing damage, so it's big ass ar is boosted when you attack something attacking. Great with spear talisman, you can out dps most other colossals with it.
I must be doing deep root depths extremely early because I wouldn’t classify it as even close to the end of the game I do it before the capital and volcano manor which I always considered mid game

Bro the golem's halberd is underrated.
they became my main build since facing Commander Niall...none of my previous weapons (mostly halberds and curved greatswords) were able to interrupt the frost windup of the banished knights (mainly the one with two swords whose attacks would oneshot me constantly) but the Golem's Halberds did that and they trivialised these fuckers from then on.

For my own reference:
Great Club w/ Faith investment looks interesting if I want to do another Faith-based build, though for the moment I'm drawn to other types of builds, especially since so much of the late game resists holy.
In summary:
Golem's Halbert + greatshield for early build, has options late game and NG+.
Yo man congrats on being the “All Knowing Guide” that’s dope🔥
Use bloodhound step on ur giant crusher to evade and retaliate instead of roll
Colossal Axes should be a separate category with different animations especially for the dodge attack cause currently the awful hammer animations make them so so bad, If stuff like axe of godfrey just had a slash after dodging instead of that abysmal stabbing your own feet which is never useful they it would be able to be such a fun weapon,
As is there just isn't any good colossal axes especially ones that look good. Was devastated when I fully upgraded that Godfreys axe just to find out its got an abysmal attack animation and very little damage for how slow it is which sucks as its the best looking colossal weapon and best looking axe by far.
What's worse is ugh had such a good rolling r1 back in ds3
Mi favorite greataxe will always be the black knight Greataxe from DS3 , the animation, good damage and design made them one of my favorite weapons from the souls series. I was also a little disappointed when I realized the greataxes in this game where basically colossal Hammer but with standard damage.
The stabbing at your feet is the Greataxe attack, it was in Dark Souls 3 to. Hammers never had that.
I utilize the running r1 on Godfrey's axe...it catches alotta peeps offguard as its range isnth bad
I kinda feel ashamed I thought collosal swords and weapons were in the same category. Did anyone else get them mixed up?
Small tip for the Golem's Halberd, to get it first try from a golem before any boss, you can find one a little further from, the Colosseum into the east where a lone golem is lying on the ground. That one pretty much always gave it to me the first time
I’m excited for the video on colossal great-swords the black flame colossal sword is one of my favorite weapons to build around
Thanks for this video! Been wanting to do a colossal weapon build.
Thank you for these videos! I've referenced them many times while playing to see the pros and cons of any weapon type I'm considering, I would love to see curved greatswords!
Can’t wait for Colossal Swords! Quickstep Zweihander OP
Try Giant's Hunt!
Just switched from powerstancing Grafted Greatsword and Guts Greatsword to 2 handing Radhan's Greatsword last night. Being able to powerstance while only worrying about the weight of one weapon is amazing. Was actually able to equip decent armour 😂
2:17 is literally Monster Hunter
Yes! I was waiting for the new video. Thanks man, love your content!
Regal Roar not scaling with roar medallion was patched, so it now works with roar medallion
Very detailed and great explanations!
Your videos in these weapon series are fantastic! Could you do one on all the legendary weapons that you get from rememberences?
I love this serie thank you for the work :)
Haha imagine a 'Holy Bard' build, using all the horn weapons for different situations
My first time beating elden ring was with dual Ghizas Wheels and wearing heavy armor! One of my favorite builds of all time. I felt invincible!!!
First time yet you used two of a weapon you can only get one of per playthrough...... aka you got someone to drop you gear.... like a bitch.....
these are amazing! congrats on the recent award!
hoping for daggers next...
Your videos are awesome, straight to the point and very informative.
Just wait till the dlc tho I have a feeling holy damage will be the best or at least top 3 since it’s not very useful for anything right now
The amount of work to collect this much information for each weapon is astounding.
YASSSSSSS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
Currently have Watchdogg staff and Giant Crusher
Watchdog Staff has been CLUTCH!!!!
Yay!!! You did the thing. Idk if you saw my comment or you just had this planned but thank you.
Objectively, I think Fallingstar, Prelate's, and Staff of the Avatar I think are the best (and probably in that order)
But I play fashion souls
Golem's Halberd just looks so cool!
Prelates charge with takers cameo is actually hilarious
You are missing a weapon, the "greatsword" which is a colossal greatsword in Calid
Thanks a bunch for these videos. I'm trying to put together my fashion souls build so I'm experimenting with a lot of weapons, but some of them are outright unpleasant to use. Hearing a second opinion helps a ton
Cuckoo knight armor + carian royal helm
Distinguished greatshield with shield crash and any weapon with royal knights resolve. I like the mace Lance and banished halberd for a knight look
Insane amounts of damage and tankiness.
If I'm not mistaken I think the Giant Crusher has a hidden effect where it deals more damage to Giant enemies.
Would make sense
I'm rather fond of the falling star beast jaw and dragon greatclaw/golems halberd dual wielding, fallingstar beast jaw has a really good ash of war, great damage potential and if you go golems halberd I like to go frost damage for enemies with a lot of health and you can throw on a decent ash of war to swap to as an alternative to gravity
Been waiting on this one
I'm still very much in love with the Greatsword and I'm stating to think it's a problem.
TFW the Axe of Godfrey doesn't get boosted by the Roar Medallion or the Icon of Godfrey.
May Chaos take the World.
I’m a simple man. I see Fextralife post a new video, and I click.
Are you gonna do a dagger video? I figured you were I was just curious. Love everything you do!
I love how consistently he says "the pros of this weapon"
Rot axe with poison mist is fantastic. Arc build, 60 dex 60 str 80 arc
I love how the prelates hammer is a reference to Smough
I tried to fight her with another weapon just so I could get a taste of what everyone was talking about, died 2 times, said 'Ok that's it', switched weapons and proceeded to respectfully destroy her(ofcourse I also used a mimic)...
absolute chad
A quick (slightly cheesy) tip for weapons like the Rotten Staff. If you have the Rot talisman, just summon the Mimic and then swap to a different weapon. On top of being able to split boss aggro, you get a HUGE damage boos if/when your mimic procs the status.
SO you might be happy to hear that the "Staff of the Avatar" is the weapon with the higest ar if you have all stats att 99, so thats pretty cool
Although it is very low drop rate i got it in 7th try with 103 item discovery
im starting to think holy damage is one of the worst damage types late in the game as some of the most difficult bosses resist it
How do u attack so fast in the beginning of the video with prelates????
Him saying the Godfrey axe is underrated made me very happy. I saw it’s potential from the start.
I don’t mind Fat Rolling, loosing a little mobility is a good trade for high damage and high poise.
I use Giant crusher with Fingerprint shield, using the colossal hammer to do the guard-counters since it has the highest poise breaking damage of all weapons while doing that :D.
I kept thinking to myself how weird and unintuitive dex colossal weapons were until I needed a big bonk weapon on my BHF build
The earliest colossal to obtain is the watchdog staff, and along the BJ claw are the only ones that allow for shielder builds, whereas the golem weappn allows for the perfect ranged build with erdtree shield.
Troll's Hammer just speaks to me.
Jump attack then rolling out, then Jump attack again is my preferred method than a chain attack when duel wielding with I'm using colossal weapons.
Roar Medallion does work with Regal Roar now.
@@facundovera3227 Ahi, guess my joke doesn't make sense anymore... But now I can add an other talisman to my build, yay
When I use a spirit summon, it's almost always Crystalian. I deal enough damage, thank you. When I need a summon, it's to draw the enemy's attacks, and survive longer than 15 sec.
what does that have to do with this video? O_o
Many people are asking- when will you create ‘Colossal Swords are the best weapon’ video?
...Why are collesal swords and collas weapons different? Just spent a minute looking through the vid cuz I wanted to see what he had to say about Starscourge.
i personally used the heavy affinity Inferno Crozier Hammer with Lion Claw, because i like big hanmer
