  • ▶︎ BMX Rider Twan van Gendt changes direction completely in an attempt to reach his ultimate goal, becoming World Champion.
    Twan van Gendt was just four-years-old when he got the BMX bug. All he wanted to do was get on his BMX and go dirt jumping. His mum eventually relented and he was soon racing around BMX tracks. This enthusiasm stayed with Twan into his teens and he’s always had one goal fuelling his ambition: to compete in the Olympics.
    Twan achieved his aim at the age of 20, finishing fifth in London in 2012. He also won his first World Cup title at Abbotsford in Canada the same year, and further outlined his arrival among the BMX Racing elite with victory at Red Bull R.Evolution.
    He struggled with injury after 2012, but was a consistent performer on the World Cup circuit in 2013, when he also became the Dutch national champion - a feat he's since repeated.
    His ultimate dream is winning an Olympic gold medal, and he's already preparing for the biggest challenges of his career by scoring BMX Supercross World Cup podium finishes, including first place in Zolder 2017, when he ended the season ranked fourth in the world. He's determined to improve that ranking in the very near future.

    Dutch BMX seems to be in good hands. Bas de Bever was a savage back in the late 80ies & 90ies, one of the all-time greats.

    @7:50 back in 92 my brother and I were racing ABA BMX and we were in the top 10 in CA-14 every year and in contention for NAG plates. We had a local welder build a roller, what Twan is raiding here. We used to play games like who could do the biggest bunny hop on it and stay on or who could generate enough pedal speed from a coast to hop off the roller. Or who could wheelie the longest. I think we also invented foot down at Orange YMCA out in the gravel parking lot. It's amazing seeing top pros today train the way we used to. I should've started a company to teach kids how to ride.

    Great video but is nobody gonna talk about 15:16 in the video. That would of been devastating if he went down. How he saved it, I have no clue.

    very interesting to see that most of what the coach was helping him with was the psychology that goes with any high pressure competitive sport. You can be the fastest in the world, but only if you believe it for real as well.

      this is true, until you have a look at world champion road sprinters on a velodrome. Those guys are huge! BMX is mostly sprinting, so makes sense to have larger muscles for that :)

    • @darkdragon213
      @darkdragon213 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      it a corner not a pup track though considering a lot of BMX tracks at that level have tar corners its not hard for them to get one a thumbnail, even more so the track in zolder does have tar corners(even though that track is garbage seeing as more than half of the 8 riders crashed in the finals)

      That is actually a pump track corner. It's the same concrete brand as the ones they use for the Red Bull pump track races. I could be wrong.
