      I was thinking the same thing. His physique is closer to Mo Farrah's than Justin Gatlin's or most other top sprinters. But my gosh, everything about Laird's running is a thing of beauty. One of best forms and strides out there right now.

      I disagree. The kid can't weigh much more than 145 lb soaking wet, but look at the relative size of his legs, very powerful legs for his size. Speed = Power/Mass. He has 20% less mass for the leg power of the 180 lb pound sprinter.
      I bet you he squats 300 lb for 10 easy.

      I was a decent sprinter as well and got bored from Athletics (the culture around solo sports is rather toxic tbh :( )and switched to rugby for a bit. I was still really fast and could easily outrun and dodge the others... but I could do that twice, maybe three times in a match and then I'd be done for.

  • @weljenks
    @weljenks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Laird is coming for Lyles if he doesn’t run a better first 100. He said at Mt. Sac he wasn’t really worried about the first 100. Well the last time he lost was when Norman beat him off the curve. If he loafs it like he did at Mt Sac he won’t catch Laird. Hopefully he’s just waiting to peak at the right time. Laird is running great times while doing multiple events in a day. I smell an upset brewing.

    • @BDQ1975
      @BDQ1975 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Laird will be burnt out by the US Trials. A lot of people got to put this in mind, Laird will need to run 18-24 races between now and the trials in 5 weeks. This is a combination of the 100-200m, plus the Relays at the SEC Finals, NCAA Regionals and the NCAA Finals. That’s a lot of running before you hit the Trials. That’s why you’ve seen guys and girls after a long collegiate season don’t do so well at the US Nationals or Trials. Yes, Lyles needs to pick up his first 100m but, he ran a 19.90, never even trying in that 1st 100m and was still able to pick off the others. If he tried, I believe he runs sub 19.80.

    • @afamobi93
      @afamobi93 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a world record waiting to happen.
      Coleman could probably do a 10 flat on the bend (bends are tough, need to be Bolt/Gay level to break 10)
      Laird could probably shave a few hundreths off his 8.87 flying 100 to get 8.82
      Bromell could get in the 9.0 range for a flying bend (not enough data for a solid prediction)
      And Lyles has proven 8.78 closing speed.
      That puts them at 36.6x, plenty of room to break 36.84

    Laird already has the tools to be one of greatest sprinters ever. His form, reaction time, and top-end speed are already superb. Once he goes pro and gets more individualized coaching, he is going to be nearly impossible to beat for years to come.
    Boling has such raw talent, but his form is too rigid and seems to only rely on his strength to finish races. I used to think this was a plus for him, especially in the 200m indoor, until Laird exposed him. He is great but has a lot of work to do.
