Shirley Chisholm was the first woman in the Democratic Party to be nominated for President of the United States. In 1972, Chisholm made history by becoming the first African American woman to seek the presidential nomination of a major political party. She was a trailblazer in American politics, known for her advocacy for civil rights, women's rights, and social justice. Chisholm's campaign slogan, "Unbought and Unbossed," highlighted her independent spirit and commitment to representing marginalized communities.

      Baloney! Lol
Democrat voters never had a chance to vote for a replacement. Recall how Bernie Sanders was bamboozled by the UnDemocratic party.
Remember in 2017 attorneys representing the DNC claimed that the Democratic National Committee would be well within their rights to “go into back rooms like they used to and smoke cigars and pick the candidate that way.” By pushing the argument throughout the proceedings of this class action lawsuit, the Democratic National Committee is telling voters in a court of law that they see no enforceable obligation in having to run a fair and impartial primary election.
Into the hearing, DNC attorneys claimed Article V, Section 4 of the DNC Charter-stipulating that the DNC chair and their staff must ensure neutrality in the Democratic presidential primaries-is “a discretionary rule that it didn’t need to adopt to begin with.” Based on this assumption, DNC attorneys asserted that the court cannot interpret, claim, or rule on anything associated with whether the DNC remains neutral in their presidential primaries.
Remember a federal judge dismissed the DNC lawsuit on August 28, 2017. The court recognized that the DNC treated voters unfairly, but ruled that the DNC is a private corporation; therefore, voters cannot protect their rights by turning to the courts:
"To the extent Plaintiffs wish to air their general grievances with the DNC or its candidate selection process, their redress is through the ballot box, the DNC's internal workings, or their right of free speech - not through the judiciary."
Rather than reflecting on the consternation everyday voters are having over the conduct of the Democratic presidential primary, the Democratic National Committee is doubling down on the assertion that the primary election belongs to the people who control the party -- not voters.
In the transcript of the hearing in Wilding, et. al. v. DNC Services, d/b/a DNC and Deborah “Debbie” Wasserman Schultz, released, DNC attorneys asserted that the party has every right to favor one candidate or another, despite their party rules that state otherwise because, after all, they are a private corporation and they can change their rules if they want.
In the United States the majority does not rule - at least not in the causal sense of actually determining policy outcomes and electoral outcomes. When a majority of citizens disagrees with economic elites and/or with organized interests, they generally lose. Moreover, because of the strong status quo bias built into the U.S. political system, even when fairly large majorities of Americans favor policy change, they generally do not get it.
Therefore since policymaking is dominated by powerful business organizations and a small number of affluent Americans, then America’s claims to being a democratic society are seriously threatened.

Just putting this here for the people who don't know how the Presidential nomination process works:
When you vote in the primaries you are voting for the delegates in your congressional district, not the candidates themselves. To win a nomination, a Republican candidate needs the votes of at least 1,200 delegates and a Democratic candidate needs at least 2,300. When Biden dropped out, all 4,000 of his delegates immediately became free agents. This means they were free to vote whomever Democratic candidate they wished. In other words, Kamala was NOT automatically appointed like most people think she was. She had to earn the votes of at least 2,300 delegates to win nomination. And since no Democratic challenger stepped up, and a majority of her party immediately endorsed her, a large majority of those free agents decided to side with her (according to the wishes of those who voted for them in their congressional districts). Also, there is no need for another round of primaries. If you're a Democrat and you voted for Joe Biden, that also means you are automatically okay with whomever VP Biden picks, and you are okay for that VP to take over nomination in case Biden drops out. This isn't exclusive to the Democratic party. Trump won nomination because he secured at least 1,200 Republican delegates. If Trumo dropped the race, those delegates can either choose to vote for JD Vance or somebody else. Got it?

    • @underthesun-ml4mu

When you vote in the primaries you are voting for the delegates in your congressional district, not the candidates themselves. To win a nomination, a Republican candidate needs the votes of at least 1200 delegates and a Democratic candidate needs at least 2300. When Biden dropped out, all 4,000 of his delegates immediately became free agents. This means they were free to vote whomever Democratic candidat they wished. In other words, Kamala was NOT automatically appointed like most people think she was. She had to earn the votes of at least 2300 delegates to win nomination. And since no Democratic challenger stepped up, and a majority of her party immediately endorsed her, a large majority of those free agents decided to side with her (according to the wishes of those who voted for them). Also, there is no need for another round of primaries. If you're a Democrat and you voted for Joe Biden, that also means you are automatically okay with whomever VP Biden picks, and you are okay for that VP to take over nomination in case Biden drops out.

DNC delegates are the ones who vote on the nominee and put them on the ticket. We don't vote until the general election.
Yes, we make a non-binding informational vote in Primaries, but inevitably it is DNC electors who actually cast the votes that **matter** in selecting the nominee. They may take the advice of Primary votes on who they find popular, but they are not required to necessarily vote strictly along "popular vote" lines.

Just putting this here for the people who don't know how the Presidential nomination process works:
When you vote in the primaries you are voting for the delegates in your congressional district, not the candidates themselves. To win a nomination, a Republican candidate needs the votes of at least 1200 delegates and a Democratic candidate needs at least 2300. When Biden dropped out, all 4,000 of his delegates immediately became free agents. Got it?
