Ashley seems like she’s gotten burnt out hard from being pushed as an idol for so long. And I hope she knows that it’s so easy to get burnt out creatively and that it’s okay to not always feel like you wanna do the same thing even if you’re passionate about it. If you don’t try to force it, I think it’ll come back if it’s meant to. And if the passion for that thing does change or come out in a different avenue, that’s okay too!

As an art student, I’d like to answer (or give my opinion) on PH-1’s question about what's the difference between two apparently identical paintings, but one is done by Picasso and the other by a local artist. First there's historical context to take into account; lot's of people say "oh this is so simple, I could have done it", yeah but you didn't, and if you did it now it wouldn't mean anything. Because Picasso was the person he was, in the time period he was, with aaaaall the external factors (economical, political, cultural, how art was conceived at that time and what it meant, etc.) and also his personality and life experiences, made it possible for him to paint that.
I believe it's important to never disassociate the artist from their art, because as creatives we are our art. It's a reflection of who we are and what we've lived, down to the littlest and meaningless detail, all we go through in life and how we develop as people makes us create things that only we can create, because nobody else will ever have our exact same lives and personalities. Having said that, dear fellow artist lol, never think anyone else is better or worse than you and your art. We’re just different, and probably experiencing different phases in our lives, but nobody ever can do what you have to give and create.
I'm getting hyped with this subject, I love art philosophy, sorry.

I'm a visual artist and I second this! Specially the fact that there's no better or worse art, we're all just different. Also, you don't need to know how to draw, paint or sculpt to be an artist, that's an absolute myth from like 2 centuries ago.

PH-1 needs his own podcast. I would listen to every episode, whether it be about music, fashion, Holly, food, current events, book reviews, games, biology... that man could talk about his favorite cheese for an hour and I would still listen and subscribe.

This episode is really fascinating as an illustrator/painter. I had a showcase my senior year of college and i over thought it so much i ended up with a bunch of pieces that werent up to my standard. I think i tried too hard to come up with perfect paintings (quality over quantity) that i procrastinated too much. I still struggle with posting art because it feels so personal i feel vulnerable but im gonna take the advice of not thinking about it too hard. Thanks guys!! Keep up the awesome work 😊
Also in regards to the Picasso scenario. It’s all about art history and context of the time. If Picasso painted the dot in a time where the culture was detailed realism, then the work starts to be controversial and interesting. You can also apply this to street art or anything creative. A rat is easily painted but in the context of one of the first street artists in the 1980s in Paris, it’s iconic.
Your point about Picasso is so true. People think they can just look at art and understand it, but everything is made within a cultural and historical context

i can relate to this especially in the part where harry said how much he loved the story he wrote for dvd and then sometimes questions himself how he even wrote it. i’ve had those moments too whenever i go back to some of the stories i wrote and never published, and i’d be surprised on how much i liked it after reading it again after a long time.
