So, the 1st November is “All-saints” “Allerheiligen“ in German and “Toussaint“ in French. It’s a catholic holiday were we commemorate the dead. So, usually we go to our loved ones graveyards on that day. I guess there is a link between that day and Halloween which in its origin is a pagan tradition from the Celtic. So, yes in Western Europe at least, Halloween is more of an imported tradition from the UK and when dress up then only as witches, devil etc. (Smth scary) Carnival which takes place in February, is where we really dress up and have crazy costumes.
