To the comments ragging on Baylor... Will Kennedy is literally one of the Greatest Drummers who has ever lived. And this is "his" band.. Marcus taking over his seat is comparable to another drummer taking over for Stewart Copeland in the Police . And he managed to do it for 10 years.. There are a only a Handful of Cats that could pull that off..
Well said and I agree! William Kennedy has been one of my favorite drummers since I first heard the YJ's in the late 80's (also Jimmy Haslip one of my favorite bassists), and frankly I loved the new energy and musical interpretation Marcus brought to them during his tenure. Likewise I feel the other fellows were inspired by him as well, as evidenced in this video!
That's not the left handed Jimmy Haslip playing bass in this set? Sure looks like him to me and what are the chances someone looking like him being left handed too?
@@stephengaribaldi1378 Yes this is Jimmy playing here, the comment refers to his departure not long after William rejoined the group (also not long after this performance). I'm grateful to have seen them live many times with my bass hero JH, fortunately with both Marc Russo and with Bob Mintzer!
Yes they are, I love Jimmy and miss him, but there great with him and without him, Same with Russo, I loved him bigtime but Bob is awesome too, GREAT GROUP ❤
When you get picked up by a Monster Collection of Musicians and you wound up on a Show in your Hometown, lemme know how unexecited you stay on your instrument :) Baylor is a Baddass, otherwise, they would'a called you, right?
And, fyi: my Fusion Band has opened for YJ's and our Drummer was like he had maybe smoked a bowl of something the whole damn night. I had to play Bass before one of my Lifetime Bass Idols. Imagine how difficult-yet-done my night was.
I also disagree.... listen and you will hear that the other guys get to learn and stretch and try new stuff.... And (to me) it sounds like they enjoy it!
Mintzer has deeper ‘jazz chops’ than Russo; Russo is great for ‘smooth jazz’ and R&B - BUT if you want John Coltrane, Bird, Coleman Hawkins - Bob Mintzer is the man!

I remember that show. It was my first Yellowjackets experience. Great vibe.😊
That Mintzer solo is amazing!!
Yes yes! I first saw him in a late '80s video with Jaco Pastorius. Phenomenal!
The chord progression change-up at 6:06 is sick. Pure heavenly ingenuity.
love the yellow jackets. . . . ..
Great precision and pure talent 😊
Todos son geniales.
great stuff
Excellent Marcus !
Love the music! Love that drummer!
I have this concert performance in my collection this tune is one of (if not the my favorite for me.🕶

Esse batera sabe tudo e mais um pouco. E sua esposa canta muitoooooo Jean Baylor.
what a band> ? !!
The beginning tempo was a little fast. This tune has to have a nice tempo. They brought it back to being Comfortable.
The song is called "Freedomland".
One of my favorites
@@getvnews1918 i agree
Super !!!!
Where is will? Miss him every where!
at 2.07 what the fuck?Haslip's swing is killing !
I've enjoyed the return of Will Kennedy, but the group is not the same without Jimmy Haslip.
You right about that.🕶

Isso mesmo!
Where's Will Kennedy? He can't be replaced? Wow!
There are some missed moments here. You could call them " micro pauses" . But the WK drive is missing.
70mph in a 35 mph zone....lol
Reminds me of Michel Camillo
O cara que toca o sax tocava bastante com o Jaco Pastorious né não?
vou tentar. tenho que editar o vídeo pra fazer o upload. abraço (I'll try. I have to edit the video to upload. hug)
wow, the original tempo is 120bpm.... marcus started it almost at 150bpm... damn thing to keep up... he then slowed it down a bit... too much spicy!

@@HammondB200 Yes Korgs (i had one) and Yamahas are the best ones back in the days.🎹
Marcus is sick. I just... It's not right for me xD
not the same without Kennedy
mud foot It's so hard to see our favorite band with different formation
I remember thinking the same thing after Ricky Lawson left
mud foot different styles, different fhases of band.
@@dstol62 Yeah me too.. I've been listening to them since the seventies through till today.
What about Ricky Lawson?
without kennedy no yellowjackets ...........sory......................Baylor is a great drummer but this system is not a replacement
I disagree. ( ^ _ ^ )
I also disagree.... listen and you will hear that the other guys get to learn and stretch and try new stuff.... And (to me) it sounds like they enjoy it!
i know what you mean.😥
what a strange comment
I'm the same way without Jimmy Haslip...
Sorry I miss Marc Russo..............
Me too.
Mintzer has deeper ‘jazz chops’ than Russo; Russo is great for ‘smooth jazz’ and R&B - BUT if you want John Coltrane, Bird, Coleman Hawkins - Bob Mintzer is the man!
UGGHH!! This drummer was never a good fit with the Jackets. Thanks Will Kennedy for your return.
