Coś pięknego! I pomyśleć, że Kurpińskiego odkryłam dopiero wczoraj... Ilu polskich kompozytorów jeszcze nie odkryłam? Ilu z nich zapadło w niepamięć, bo nie zachowały się nuty?
Ten koncert Kurpińskiego jest fantastyczny, ale odkryłem całkiem niedawno innych mniej znanych, a raczej zapomnianych polskich kompozytorów takich jak Józef Zeidler (np. Stabat Mater), Franciszek Lessel (koncert fortepianowy), Marcin Żebrowski (Magnificat), Dobrzyński, Karol Lipiński, Duranowski, a z późniejszych Zygmunt Noskowski, który wg mnie tworzył prawdziwe orkiestrowe arcydzieła, ale niestety jest ciągle niedoceniony. Słuchałem rozmowy z Antonim Witem, który odkrył na nowo Noskowskiego, ale podobno w Polsce nie ma wydrukowanych partytur tego kompozytora w związku z czym nie ma co rozdać orkiestrze.
David pisze - "szkoda, że tak mało znany w US", a w Polsce? My Polacy, a ledwie wiemy o naszych dobrach narodowych. Bravo Karol Kurpiński!!! Jak budziłeś nadzieje Polaków na odzyskanie niepodległości w zwycięskiej bitwie Napoleona pod Borodino - "Wielka symfonia bitwę wyobrażająca" - polecam!
Na szczęście w Bydgoszczy jest ul. Kurpińskiego, zaraz obok Karłowicza, chociaż tyle....

This work ought to be better known and played by clarinetists as part of their repertoire. Thanks for uploading it.
There were many Polish composers who made their studies more or less in Chopin's time (Kurpinski is oldest) and who wrote quite valuable music. They play more or less for Poland (forgetting baroque times) the same role than for instance Glinka for Russia. But Glinka is one composer, here we have more or less a group of classico-romantic Polish music creators. >Kurpinski knew for sure Mozart"s concerto, but the soloist is more virtuoso and "exposed". I do not know the musical life of Kurpinski but probably he knew the concertos of the so-called Mannheim school, probably also Weber's ones, and like Weber, he obviously loved and knew the clarinet very well and adapted to this instrument the romantic style that we can find in piano or violin romantic concertos, which tend to emphasize the soloist's role. The music is absolutely wonderful.
This is lovely. I wonder if a music festival should exist that's dedicated to performing older works that have more or less fallen from the repertoire. Something that's apart from the mainstream of music marketing, sort of in the vein of new music festivals - not always popular but essential to understanding the direction of music. Something for the conservatively musically curious...
A great concerto that is still relatively unknown in the US. When I found a copy of this work back in 1981, I was intrigued, and have since had the opportunity to perform the piece. A great showpiece for clarinet with a wide range of colors and emotions. I would recommend this concerto for ALL clarinetists to consider performing, and certainly as a showpiece for clarinet...

Kuhlau-Dilfeng, you're great. You dig out almost as many fine unknown clarinet works as did Dieter Klöcker. This one here is particularly charming. Love at the first listening.

Interesting work worth to be more wellknown. I have heard this concerto live for about 30 years ago. There are realivily many unknown clarinettconcertos. One must pick them up and play them in performancies.

There is a lack of adventure in the music industry they only play or present what they know the public like. Even the music channels refuse to play the works of these composers when you request them to do so .

What's the lovely painting?
It's "List" ("Letter") by Władyslaw Czachórski, Polish academic painter, from the second half of the XIX century. The painting is therefore much younger than the composition, as Kurpiński belonged to te FIRST half of the century. Czachórski was noted for his potraits of stylish women in rich interiors.

Yep, that's correct, a single movement only.
I saw in a review of another recording (arranged for strings only) that this is just the first movement. The score on sale is 32 pages. That's just one movement?

I think so, another recording of the concerto is only a one minute longer.
Only the first part of the Concert survived until modern times
