There is a stand known as Notorious B.I.G from Vento Aureo (Part 5, golden wind) and after its user dies it activates. Carne, the stand user, got killed and the stand was still able to function without the user unlike most other stands

The only reasons why Quote lost is because he didn't have enough time to set a trap, trick, or clones. All of the the other fights he has enough time to set up a distraction, come up with a idea and put it into action. The lid was just too quick, smart, and too strong...
