I always appreciate you posting links to buy the books when you can. Like, I know it’s something we could all Google for ourselves, but you never know, the couple seconds saved by putting a pinned link in front of a viewer might actually get a few people to buy a comic, and start the snowball rolling down the hill!
I LOVE the concept of a heroic Doom but still with his ego. Really Doom just needs his own series period. Doom is one of the most interesting characters Marvel has because despite his evil, he does tend to be written with a twisted code of honor and usually with a genuine love for his country and his people. His mastery of magic is also underused quite often.
"Out of all the stories I've read, this is definitely one of them." I remember being so incensed by the last issue, I went to the r/comicpop to yell about Mephisto Jimfacing into the camera like it's The Office. Which is a bizarrely apropos parallel to make considering Mephisto also played Reed Richards.
There’s a great fantastic four comic where Doom does in fact give off a “doom vibe” it’s the storyline where he gets the leather armor made out of his former girlfriend, he’s walking around an American town (looking for a witch) in just a suit and a mask over his face, and he walks by a woman and her child, the child starts freaking out and screaming and crying. Doom actually apologizes to the mom, saying that he didn’t think what his visage would do to a child. But the woman then remarks that that couldn’t be it, because her son is blind.
@@gbone302 don’t remember the name of it off the top of my head, but it’s the storyline where doom devoted himself more to sorcery than science (hence the new armor) and that leads into a storyline where he gets sent to hell, and the FF invade latveria. Took place in the early to mid 2000s shouldn’t be too hard to sus out.
The only thing that drags this series down for me was the cop out. After everything that happened in Secret Wars by Hickman, the villain should have been and stayed the Maker. The duality was perfect. Reed saved Doom also fixing his face, and then Evil Reed comes to ruin his life when he attempts to be good.
I am a huge Ultimate Reed/Maker fan. So when I was trying to read though his history, and I heard "there's a book where he is a petty central antagonist to 616 Doom" I quickly jumped on that. My disappointment was immeasurable.
I would've loved a Doom series with the premise "I'm not only going to become a hero, I'm going to become the BEST hero" and have him focus on past Fantastic Four villains. Have it explore Doom's continued opssession with Reed even after everything with Secret Wars
I feel like with Bendis you can so easily tell when he is excited about a book and when he was bored and done. With this it just happened alot sooner then expected
I loved this run so much. Doom just running around putting everyone in their place, was amusing... (Up til agreed the ending ruins it) But until then! There's some fun to be had with Doom as a "Hero".
Ya know, now that they’ve done this, I kinda want them to do Doom 2099. Like even start the video with “we had a time with infamous iron man now for a good Dr.Doom comic”
I remember reading this when it came out. Personally, I think they should have committed to Doom's post-Secret Wars/Bendis characterization. I was sad when they reverted him to his more over the top persona.
That slow close up on Tiffany near the end was HILARIOUS!!!!! I can't believe I almost bought these books years ago. Thank freakin' goodness I DIDN'T. 🙃
Not only did Dan Slott just return Doom to normal, but He did so, after like a few years of infamous iron man. Its like the perfect venn diagram of not wanting to come up with an interesting idea.
@John Thai Reverting him back to being a malding dictator post god-doom and after they use that story to justify a pretty profound change of heart for the character. I may just be salty cause it's not the only time in that run that Slott just decides he doesn't have to play ball with everyone else.
The funniest part was that Slott asked Bendis to fuck up Doom’s face again before Bendis left for DC so that Slott wouldn’t have to do it in F4 when bringing Sue and Reed back. So in Iron Man #600 Bendis makes sure to end the battle with the Hood by having him burn Doom’s face off. One could really tell how little Bendis cared about that book on his way out while in the hospital dealing with an almost deadly infection. All his energy instead went to Miles’ final issue and making sure that Marvel got into talks with new writers for Miles and Jessica Jones that would carry on the torch(which they did until Marvel cancelled Jessica Jones within like 12 issues IIRC).
@YouCalledForTheDoc thats was the most disappointing part of it for me. Doom, a wizard near Strange's level, not only can't fix himself via magic or science but also holds his face in higher regard than losing infinite power to hubris. I just realized im venting opinions i formed in like 2018
F4 in a different MCU: I would have LOVED to see Adam Driver as Dr. Victor von Doom, Michael Fassbender (or Martin Freeman?) as Reed Richards, Emily Blunt as Sue Storm, Zac Efron as Johnny Storm and Michael B. Jordan as Ben Grimm. Perhaps introduce some side characters as well? I wouldn't mind at all if Elliot Page was up to play Alex Masters, the blind artist and on/off partner of The Thing. Jason Momoa would be a fun "amalgam" kind of choice for Namor as well. Heck - throw Danny DeVito in the mix as Mole Man and I'd sell my own mother to get a ticket to that screening! ALSO: James McAvoy as The Silver Surfer and Bryan Cranston as Galactus? Sorry for using the comment section as a notepad, but - that's a solid cast ;P
I remember when the last issue came out and watching you guys embodying myself and the rest of the Infamous Ironman readers in face palming that last issue. Great episode guys I will say most of All New All DIfferent and Marvel Now I didnt read. However there was a decent bit I did enjoy. Jeff Lumires Thanos and Logan were great, Ultimates and Ultimates squared and Infamous Iron Man were amazing. Then uncanny avengers, Captain AMerica and Zub's Thunderbolts (with Bucky) were also must reads for me. I got on the Thor train a little late but then I watched and absoloutley loved it as well with all the Jason Aaron stuff. Then secret empire happened and almost of all of these titles were up ended or destroyed. lol
Yep! This series was so amazing until the dumb reveal, that was trying to pay off something that happened decades prior. Still one of my favorite series from the mid 2010s. Alex Maleev kills as always.
@@crazysnas181 the all new all different era directly after Secret Wars was a very boring era. That’s the era that lead up to Civil War II. I did like this series until the copout at the end, but I did love that his characterization continued in Zdarsky's Marvel Two in One series with the Human Torch and The Thing. Lmao Diablo is one of my favourite FF villains. Also 12:01 Zdarsky in Marvel Two in One, retconned it where at the end of Secret Wars Reed basically took away from the Doom the want for power or ultimate power and thought Richards was dead, hence why he is helping Ben and Johnny looking for Reed in that series.
its about time you guys did this! i have the legends figure and all of the issues. this was the thing that brought be back into comics after Siege/House of M/ OG civil war/ Secret invasion
I remember a moment in Gwen Poole when she breaks past the panels and Iron Man Doom chases her and tries to reason with her, to which she remarks something like "Oh great that's right, this is the status quo you're in now." haha
I actually liked the idea of Doom being more heroic, it was one of the few new changes that I liked. I found myself trying to resist liking it because I knew the status quo would eventually return and was saddly proven correct.
