Wow! Literally have not heard Joan Armatrading since I was a teenager in the mid '70's. Boy, once she started singing with that voice it all came rushing back to me! She evokes a huge mood and feeling! Incredibly underrarted, most of all by myself! Beautiful, beautiful voice, one of a kind!!!

Thank you for reacting to "Willow," Harri. I was fortunate to get third row seats when Ms. Armatrading performed at the Pacific Amphitheater in the late '80s or early '90s. Toward the end this song, she pointed the microphone in my direction to sing the chorus. That is my favorite memory from all of the concerts I attended.
I could listen to that voice singing the want ads. Just amazing!

I've been a huge Joan fan since 83 when I first heard (I Love It When you)Call Me Names, four or five of Joans songs are on my absolute all-time list!

I’m so HAPPY to see someone reacting to Joan Armatrading. Growing up my dad loved her. I never knew a song but her name always stuck with me. A few years back I asked Alexa to play something and I was immediately hooked. “Down to Zero” “Love and Affection” “Weakness in me” “Willow” and “ water with the wine”. I listened to these songs over n over for months.
Joan for me is no different to many artists in that my favourite songs are the 'deep cuts' found on her many albums.

She has just premiered her first symphony. Nothing seems to stop her, she is true lady always supportive of young talent, she has a CBE given by the crown as part of the honours system here. Always working hard she not only provides beautiful songs but shows true GRACE in all she does.❤
I got to see her play in Berkeley, CA in the early 90s in this outdoor stone amphitheater. She played this for as long as we all wanted to sing it. Such a beautiful memory, the warm summer evening, and singing this over and over. She's a generous performer.
Love JA. Been listening to her since late 70s. I've not heard this song. Listening to her brings memories of tough times. Divorce, custody battle, death of my best friend by suicide and working 3rd shift in an ER, a new but abusive relationship. Thank God things got better!

My older brother had one of her albums. I really loved her song "Love and Affection". It's excellent - I've been waiting for someone to react to her.
I had never even heard of Joan until I moved to San Francisco in 1989. Unfortunately, in small town middle-America (north Texas and Eastern Oklahoma) we didn't have radio stations that played music other than top 40 pop and/or Country when I was young.. I did get exposed to some college radio during my Uni years, but that was still limited. I felt ripped off when I moved to San Francisco and discovered so much amazing music. My ears and mind and eyes were opened and I couldn't get enough. I still have that hunger and thirst (at 56 years young) for new artists and old artists that I have yet to discover.
When I heard Joan-it was over. I've managed to see her twice. Would love another time if I am lucky enough.

I've been a fan since l first heard her classic song Love and Affection, seen her in concert and enjoyed listening to lots of her albums. This is another beautiful song from this wonderful singer/songwriter.
'Opportunity' is another excellent track. Great little bit of storytelling and a very different sound.

I haven't listened to a lot, but you should also try "show some emotion". It's a good mood song. Also "the weakness in me", very tender.
You say Joan is known for having a guitar in front of her, but I think she is more known for her voice! You did mention that after, but honestly her voice in Willow is straight up Molasses Dripping Out Of A Tree! At least for me, so smooth!!!
She live streamed her new cd "live at the asylum chapel" during lockdown. I got to see her a few years back; in my top concerts I've been to. This song sounds like a lullaby then the rasp in her voice hits, amazing (can't help crying)

70s and 80s, check out her album the The Key, I'd also recommend the songs Drop The Pilot and Me Myself I
A couple of her songs l really like are Turn Out the Light and the 'rockier' Kind Words (And a Real Good Heart) Joan is no exception to other great artists in that some of her best stuff is the lesser known album tracks.
