It’s was a beautiful subtle movie. I loved the parts where I could tell that Eugenia recognized Monica as her child. And I love seeing Monica grow to love her nephews and niece and become an important member of the family.
"it's very complex and very subtly rendered" is the perfect summary for your good ratings review! Seeing that Joseph being 'unsatisfied/ non plussed' at times by child actors performance - *but here* they're 'used' correctly! Looks, like a narrative I'd watch just for the 'grace' in which it unfolds itself, on issues about 'identity' and what that means.
A wonderful spot-on review. I just saw this beautifully paced and subtly complex film about family dynamics at a local theater. The unusual square film ratio took a bit getting use to. Bravo to Trace Lysette's quiet but intensely powerful performance.
I feel as though the scene toward the end of the movie where she’s giving her mother a bath, and her mother grabs monicas face with both hands is when I finally broke down because to me it was at that point that her mother knew that was her child❤️❤️
I’m glad this is finally coming out after following her social media from the beginning of the project, and I’m so glad to hear your positive review. I’m rooting for her so much - and not just because I’m an obsessed lez - but because she’s a round the way gworl with serious acting chops
The way Monica speaks to each family member, particularly Paul, is nice
Oh wow. I just saw the trailer for this, and watched an interview with Trace and fell in love with her!
I really want to see this movie and I hope that Tracy Lysette get some Awards attention later on this year fingers crossed

I have often thought about how we are expected to name babies before leaving the hospital. We don't know their little personalities yet. I'm hearing more and more about parents later changing their children's names once they have "gotten to know them."
I mean hell, we don't name our cats until we have had them for a bit in order to see what they are all about and what name fits! 🤷🏻♀️
