    Jack, thanks for pointing out that Santa's Sled had wheels, that is a good joke that I would have missed. Nice to see the local talent in your area, the workers made it look easy designing and creating by hand such professional looking lanterns.

    If you wanna have a big discounts you should buy early cause as Christmas comes closer the pricey it gets. i remember i purchased mine years back for only 800 pesos i can't believe that same size i have is now 1,300 pesos Take note they last long with proper handling and boxing when Holiday is done :) My old capiz parol will be hanging again sooner. :)

    Wow, those lanterns are so cool! I bet they would be popular here in the US. Just hang up a few of those and you wouldn't have to climb all over your house hanging strings of lights.

    Philippine "parol" or Christmas lantern symbolizes the Star of Bethlehem which the bible says guided the three wise men to find baby Jesus. In early days, the parol was of more simple construction, made of bamboo,Japanese paper and glue. A hole is sometimes is provided on the side for a candle be installed and lighted inside. This lighted lantern was used by the rural folks to light their way to hear dawn masses conducted nine days before Christmas day. Commercially produced parols now are made of capiz shells and provided with LED lights. Capiz shells are most abundant in the province of Capiz (duh?) and now in danger of over harvesting. Parol makers now are using other materials such as plastic. Parol making shops are concentrated in the city of San Fernando Pampanga and environs and the city is famous for its giant lantern festival held every year. Here in the US, you can probably buy these lanterns from Filipino stores in areas where there are large Filipino communities. I got mine from a Filipino bake shop here in Los Angeles.

    Nice to see he's wearing glasses while doing the welding... Shame the glasses are on the top of his head! And with little kids in the same room... Different world, different rules...

    • @comkaosstime
      @comkaosstime 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      there is a trick to welding without I protection.
      you close your eyes during the spot weld.
      as for the kids they were in the playpen.
      a good distance from the arc welding .
      still not perfect

    Does it ever upset any of these folks when you video them Jack !!! I'm just curious ... but I love all your videos !!! Great job . My wife and baby girl are in Cavite .

    • @JackNorthrup
      @JackNorthrup  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +johngoss9 I do not video without permission. Off camera I quit usually walk the strip in in the markets and say I would like to make video. Then go back and video. Even in crowds I wave my arm for attention then point to my camera. when I get acknowledgement that makes me feel it is okay, then I video. In over three years I have had one negative response. A woman actually waved to me and pointed to herself. That is very common, that people actually WANT to be in a video. In this case he woman did want in my video, but the man with her did not. He said I did not give you permission to video me and to please delete the video. I said< Excuse me, the woman with you motioned me to video her." His reply was, "That was HER not me." That is all that was said. I never used the video and deleted it when I got home..

    Here in the States if you see a house adorned with one or two of those parols (not paroles!) you can bet the homeowners are Pinoys. These lanterns can get very elaborate. th-cam.com/video/4I1I28jrVis/w-d-xo.html

    Does anybody know how to turn off the music permanently? There's a switch to turn the music off but only after you power it on. but when you turn it off then on again the music starts back up. Music is driving us crazy cause we have two parols and each one plays different music individually. i'm thinking of cutting the back open to access the speaker inside and cut the wire, but I really don't want to do that if i can avoid it.
