What i prepared for them as my gift, is bamboos sigments cut into piggy banks. I put change coins in those bamboo sigments and tell them to save as much money untill the following year, to be opened on Christmas day, to buy whatever they were able to saved that year. I'm a Filipino I remember when I was an elementary in my school here in the Philippines each 6th grader every year for our Work Ed subject is required to make 1 Parol or Christmas lantern to be displayed in our school every November. For 5th graders they are each required to make a Christmas wreath. I don't if other schools here in the Philippines do the same but in my school it is a tradition.
When September comes most of us try to save money to spend for Christmas..we play Christmas songs the first day of september..before Christmas had an extension up to january 4 for three kings..

Many of our traditions comes from pre-colonial traditions. We celebrate Christmas starting in September because that’s when harvest season begins in the Philippines, that’s when the typhoon rain wet seasons have just ended.

To those not in the know ----- the Philippines has THE longest Christmas celebration in the world ---- indeed once the months end in 'B E R' ---- the celebrations start ----- with Christmas songs over the radio---- spectacular decorations in shops big and small ---- there are families who display the Nativity scene referred to as 'belen' in their living rooms ---- and the colourful Christmas parols or lanterns are hung and you see these beautiful parols hanging outside windows or over holiday displays in stores ---- no snow---- it's a tropical country ---- but, yes, we believe that Santa will come in his sleigh bearing gifts for all the good girls & boys.
