Hondas are typically far more reliable than Polaris.
i have a 700xx. i love it. its extremely fast and powerfull. and it has a great ride in the rough stuff. rocks ruts and roots are no problem. i have never been stuck on it. it crawls around easily also unlike a 450 but it will leave them in the dust on demand. you just have to get used to riding it.
Thanks for posting this on your youtube page as well!
And it's ugly - but after a few beers it looks better and weights less ;-)
i love my 700xx after 4 years, i still love it.
@meltdwhiskey One thing to remember about ground clearance - GC on a solid rear axle is always the same. An IRS is only 10" before you sit on it and especially only before you hit any bumps or whoops and the suspension goes upward in its travel...
For me it's the Raptor 700 without a doubt.....I like the suspension, the mass centralization and the many aftermarket parts available.
THANKS FOR THE INFO IT REALLY HELPS
@09FordFX4 That is absolutely correct! A swing axle has a static ground clearance - the only thing that will change the GC is the change in the tire's diameter such as pooching under pressure. The very second either tire on the rear of an IRS machine moves you start to lose GC! You hit a big bump, your suspension moves 4" and you've just lost 4" of that 'precious' GC. Use all the swingaxle travel and you've lost not one bit.
First time riding a fourWheeler with a clutch was one of these.
I popped a wheelie like right away but it was so much fun
i have that exact quad in the review, the IRS is awesome, i blast through deep thick mudholes with the stock dunlop tires on, i also fly over big rocks and stumps whatever and yes it will beat a 450r, ive raced and beat em along with the kfx450 and the suzuki 450 and raptor 700's are not a problem either, another great thing about the irs is you dont have to lean as much to turn but you dont lose the ability to slide or do tricks, only downside ive noticed is cus of its weight it dont jump far
@wolfewispr its because honda's rear IRS setup isnt really set up that well. the polaris outlaw 525 mentioned in the video has a waaaaay better IRS setup. it can powerslide great, yet maintains the independant suspension aspect. its all about how you set it up.
how do you change the front sproket on that it is in the ceanter
im looking in to buying one of these.. ive been riding for a while and i like to whip the back end alot... i herd that the IRS gives problems and makes it easier to flip...
@MrSweetleaf92 That's a great question! IRS is something consumers think is a 'great' thing, but actually not necessarily a better idea, especially on a sport quad.
So we'll assume they did it because many potential buyers thought it's a better suspension. Too bad.
Please test the Yamaha raptor 700. please!!!
@ATVTVCOM you are right, irs is less functional it allows the atv to tuck under it corners, also from past racing experience if get a little off kilter with a straight axle quad you can usually land it and pull out of a potential wreck, with irs if it's a little off kilter in the jump you are more likely to roll or wreck because of tuck under when you land off kilter. most definately they should offer the 700xx with a straight axle.
Does the 700xx have a differential in the rear or are the rear wheels locked to rotate the same speed like on the raptor straight axle?
Honda is usually pretty good at having a stock of parts - but, this sold in very few numbers so whether that means there's a lot of parts laying around or few I don't know.....
@jrmhhardie Great question. I'd have to check the manual for an answer. Anyone already done it?
What is a good sport atv for big rider? im about 6 foot 7 and i'm looking in to getting one.
@atvtvcom im selling my warrior and buying a bigger quad and im wondering if i should go with the 700xx, kfx700, outlaw 525, raptor 700/660, 400ex, or ltz400? i mostly trail ride.
what do you think of the polaris predator 500
why independent suspention?
@03SilverMustangGT That might be a tad bit of a stretch but they are discounting them pretty good!
@Maxomath Well if it is lower geared you can have power when you are moving slow in rough spots or rocky hills. But it is not a big deal if it is geared higher, if it bogs then you just slightly pop the clutch to get the revs up.
can i ask, a 2005 2900$ foreman 500 4x4, not the best looking condition but working well vs a 3100$ sportsman 700 4x4 looks nice and works very well, i live on a farm in Montana where i need to round up cattle 50 miles or more away from home on harsh ground, water, mud, bumps, carrying a gas can and maybe a calf on the racks, i need reliability, a fastish atv, good mpg, and something that can fit in the back of a truck and something dependable but also good for weekend fun. wich is better?
Yes
9,000rpm's redline? my stepdad ran twin-banger kawasaki snowmobiles 14,000rpm's and never blew one. they didn't last very long, but they were still running at the end of the race.
@ATVTVCOM So i guess ground clearance doesnt matter? IRS is a major upgrade over a solid rear in terms of ground clearance.
I totally agree - I take a 'good' swing axle any day...
@quarvis Maybe.. Or a Suzuki LTZ400
do you think a1999 400ex would be better then a predator for a 120pound 13yr old
@MrSweetleaf92
it's for trails.
@Scottp419 That certainly depends on how you ride. They can all flip over. But did you miss that I said swing axle ATVs are more stable?
for how much can i find a used one?
This is a Honda so I'm sure it's very reliable and whatnot, but the model is discontinued right? Do you recon this mean spare parts are going to become a problem within a foreseeable future?
@ChiefsFan581 Quite different with the KFX being a V-twin automatic with shaft drive, and swingaxle and the 700XX being a single with a manual tranny and IRS.
How does this ATV compete against the Kawasaki KFX 700? I used to own a KFX 700 and it was a complete beast!
@68023 It's 700XX not 700R?
@Flattrack450r it's a little faster than the stock 2004 or 2005 trx450r but the 2006 trx450r and er models come with 12.0:1 compression and are faster than the stock 700xx. however you can replace the 04 and 05 model pistons with the 13.0:1 compression piston and out run the 700xx.
@TuriLT look way down the list on their channel and you can find it
I just got a kfx 700 about 4 months ago I have been riding it at least twice a week since then. The only other 4wheelers I rode until the 700 was the honda 250ex and my dads warrior. I do alot of trail riding with the kfx and its awesome. Its automatic and it destroys the warrior in my opinion. Why shift when you don't have to. I have never ridden the other 4 wheelers you listed but I would go with the kfx if I were you. It goes everywhere the warrior could.
Quadzilla ?
@Flattrack450r Not sure, but I doubt it - more of a duner and desert cruiser than a racer.
review a yamaha warrior 350!!!
I'm debating on getting a 2007 400ex or a 2008 kfx 450r which would you perfer??
+Dr.diablo The KFX is faster and handles better. The 400EX is a better play and trail quad. But as always, you also need to take into consideration the condition of the machine and how hard it was used and how well it was maintained.
@georgeb311 Did you read any of the other comments?
@georgeb311 still wet 505 is pretty darn heavy but the larger engine helps make up for it. just dont roll it oer on yourself.... definately keep it rubber side down..
@09FordFX4 7" ruts are nothing. Racing across the Baja and Southern California deserts there are ruts and whoops that are measured in FEET! I wonder how we raced (or even rode) before they had IRS?
they should've made it a race quad instead of sport
@callofthegiraffe Of course I'm not sure, but you mean that as a compliment right?
My neighbour bought this ATV, I tried it in trails and sand pits, and was very disappointed ! This ATV won't allow you Powerslides, and I almost fell asleep riding it cause it's too damn confortable ! The Power was OK bought a Stock Yamaha Raptor 700 R kicked my ass in a 1/4 mile run ! And when he told me he bought it for over $8000 I told myself ok of course this is a honda but I think Yamaha has more to offer for less money !! on 10 I'd rate this quad 7 !
why doesnt honda make the 700 anymore
I love my 700xx.
yes you are right.. honda in atv exept for the 700xx never make powerful machine but their machine never break and alway run great.. So you have a choice to do now in 2000's the durability or the performance...And yes the 400ex are no cooled but if they dont need it why put it in my cousin no cooled 400ex run great during my friend cooled ltz 400 pump oil and take 5 minute to start during the sumer.. HONDA STILL GOOD MACHINE
I have to agree with you on the DS being weird. I almost purchased one used as my first atv till I saw one next to a LTZ400. Take about weird, the DS was odd in many small areas here and there which made the DS ugly overall. The appearance of the fenders (shape and size) and headlight looked unappealing. Compared to the LTZ, and 400ex the DS looks highcentered, odd. It's hard to describe, but once the DS is parked next to another quad you begin to notice how strange the DS is overall.
cant really decide between this or a raptor, i havent ever been on either for a test ride, which one do you think is the better choice?
This over the raptor for everything except mx. The raptor has tighter handling around tight corners. The raptor makes noticeably less power but is lighter to toss around as well as slides easier. In a straight line or woods it is no contest. I have ridden both and bought a trex over the raptor.
@doobyboy21 you are right the 700xx is not designed to power slide... which is a bummer to me. the independant rear suspension makes it tilt too much and you actually lose manueverability over a straight rear axle. it's a sport with a utility rear drive. if they made a straight axle version of the 700xx i'd probably buy one.
i ride the honda trx450er it is designed for racing aqnd actually makes the 700xx look silly in a race.
@ATVTVCOM even the experts will tell you a straight axle swingarm has more stability and control that an independant rear suspension. try them both and you'll see it for yourself. the straight axle wont tilt and tuck under like the independant rear suspension will. the majority of the i.r.s. quads have an enormous amount of tuck under that even adjusting the stock suspension wont remedy. i have ridden the 700xx, it's ok not the power i would have expected, and the tuck under was bad.
@chasednero Yeah, but the Outlaw is a Polaris. Nuff said.
All I can say is that my favorite for trails and sand dunes is the Raptor 700. But that doesn't mean that it's the right machine for you...
It didn't sell enough.
@Maxomath power is not an absolute. Oftentimes it's where the power is, hence the lack of desire for the 'peaky, high=strung' ultimate performance machines.
Locked
@quarvis I think so.....
@wolfewispr I'd go so far as to say that all quads would be better with a swingaxle - even utility quads. And remember, when I say swingaxle I mean one with some travel....
@TuriLT i have one my buddy blew the motor and new im rebuilding it from the gears up and im almost done and thers alot of power for just a lil 350 sounds amazingly awsomme only thing i hate bout it its not a honda i have very bad luck whit yamahas
"the weird DS 650" ? How was it weird? The DS was a great bike, I rode one for years. Tough as nails, bulletproof engine, 12" of suspension travel, and it was available in over a decade ago. Its really too bad that BRD stopped making it.
what do u mean by that
@ATVTVCOM so this isnt gonna go flipping on me?
This machine was one of the funnest sport ATV's i have ever been on. Perfect for trails! To me this is the best ATV they make/made. Honda is falling behind the ATV world why the rest build liquid cooled motors Honda's 400EX is a total shame and 1980s outdated air cooled motor. Not only that but there biggest 4x4 is only 680cc with mouse like power and no diff lock???!!!! Thats crazy. Its a shame because they build such a reputation on being new and innovative. Hello Honda 2013 is calling.
I didn't say it wasn't fast, or handled incredible, just weird, like the fenders for one ;-)
Haha. Ok, I may see what your getting at. The fenders were actually very cool, because the fronts couldnt rub against the tire unless you put too large a tire on. As you know they were attached to the A-arms. Still, you sure dismissed it in a hurry. All im saying is its a solid bike. Nothing really too weird about it.
They are all going to feel rather tiny to you. I'd suggest something like this or maybe a Raptor.
The fenders add to the reeeaaaallly tall and narrow look for sure.
Honda should have put this engine in a utility quad.
@ATVTVCOM So explain to me how a solid axel quad is Sposed ride a rutted out trail with 7" deep ruts, ain't gonna happen AT ALL. A IRS quad will do it no problem. For a trail quad IRS is the way to go. If you don't think so, then you don't ride real trails I guess.
First try yamaha raptor 700r se and then try honda trx 700xx you will see the deference okay I ride the yamaha raptor 700r special edition all what you need it's over there on the raptor what do you say
The Raptor 700 is one of my favorite sport quads but then I only ride sport machines in the sand dunes and even that is seldom nowadays.
@09FordFX4 You're right! Ground clearance is a highly overrated measurement - especially on an IRS machine...
@Rappy700SE
You could get a brand new one for like 3,800 They are practically giving them away.
Or ride a swingaxle ATV ;-)
@ATVTVCOM so pretty much they did it for the oney. more people wanted it so they did it. toobad cuz you get mor pull from a straight axle
@Scottp419 Swingaxle ATVs are much more stable.
I personnaly don't care for independent rear suspension because it lifts just the tire and not the frame so u are more likely to bottem out going over obsticles and whatnot
It looks so sexy
@09FordFX4 Probably have a tad more experience and education in this stuff ;-)
I'd like it if there were no Raptors or 700XXs left on the planet ;-)
Yeap. It makes it as stable as if it had a swing axle ;-)
be wayy beter if she had a soild rear axel
It means I might like it if it was the last sport ATV on the planet....
thats sad it only lasted a few years. it was no match for a rappy!
its not 505lbs dry, thats wet weight!
1:37 That shot clearly shows how much this ATV is copied from the 2007 Polaris Outlaw 525's.
thank you for talking about a atc haha
raptor...for sure just much easier to maintain, reliable, light weight, good suspension, or if you want a bullet proof quad get a honda 400ex..most reliable quad ever made
John more reliable than a 250x?
@ATVTVCOM lmao. ok. you keep thinking that less ground clearance is good, have fun with that.
that thing weighs as much as my sportsman 500 utility and my raptor 700 eats those wasted piece of plastics all day long i have never had one come close to my on the dunes
You got poor taste in ATVs bro. I'd take a TRX250R any day
At 5:55 , if you want a sport quad not to powerfull , lol .....pffff hahahahahaaaha
