Officially back (4K Videos) and investing in the tank again... added more tangs and also corals to the 120.. more updates to come on the corals I've shown live.. as always thanks for watching and any suspect comments will be blocked and banished from the channel.. Be Eazy!
Battling a nuisance algae for about 6 months. I had a alkalinity test kit read low so I dosed the hell of out the tank about 6 months ago with soda ash 2 part. It caused a mass LPS and SPS rtn event overnight and woke up to a dead tank with fish swimming around. Ever since then I've had a nitrate problem and haven't been interested in doing a full water change over the course of a few days yet. When you see all the things you tried hard to keep alive and thrive suddenly die, even though it was a bad test kit and not any neglect, it's discouraging. This video has inspired me to do the water changes this weekend and finally overcome this stupid issue I have yet to face. The reason I don't have a dosing pump is so it forces me to test and dose accordingly. If I had a dosing pump, I would probably not test near as much as I do now. Had I had it before (and dialed it in when my test kits were accurate), I would not have had the problem I did. Trying to do the right thing screwed me once again. You can't make these things up.. Thanks CJ, looking forward to both our 120s starting up again
Glad to see the tank back up and going again. Make sure you monitor N and P super close. If they drop to 0, you need to start dosing N and P. I would be ready for any of the following: chrysophytes, cyano and/or dinos. They are all super common with dry rock tanks especially if you use a bio media like Siporax or Matrix. The tank has almost no bio diversity, then the bio medias are too effective at removing nutrients. Chrysophytes, cyano and dinos all thrive in a "no diversity" and low nutrient tank. I am on like month 4 of fighting through them all and dinos are kicking my butt right now.
Yes totally agree i dont qt my fishes as well and has worked well for the past 4 years...the precaution i take is trusted lfs who qt's their fishes before selling them..simple...
Did you add the tangs on the same day that you put the powder blue back, or did the new tangs get a couple of days by themselves before the powder blue was reintroduced? I've got a yellow tang but looking to add a few different kinds as well. Thanks CJ! Love your videos. Thanks for taking us along with you on your journey. 🐠
So nice to see peace among the tangs! And I saw the trip to the store on Paul’s live stream, so I’m interested in seeing how the flow situation worked itself out. 👍🏻
illmanner415 no I didn’t cure it... next time I would def cure in brute can with lots of water changes for a couple months. Rock looks fantastic after the ugly phase I’d recommend it and use it again
Hope you show us what you got on live stream when you get the chance! I used to always miss them till I realized you can set up alerts on your phone. Now i don't care where I am I always check in for a few to see whats up
Just letting you know I do like your channel, I am just looking for some advice. How do you like the sca Aquarium ? I am thinking about getting back into the hobby after 13 years or so , I just want to start small and was looking at the red sea reefer and the sca aquariums. What I want is a small system with a sump.
for the money you wont find a better tank than the SCA system.. Red sea is def nice but much more expensive.. only thing i would change would be having it drilled for ghost overflow.. and maybe having stand reinforced to remove center brace.. would allow sump to be removed while tank is full.. ether choice u make will be a great tank.. good luck !
Hi CJ, What kind of purple wrasse is that in your tank? I'm looking to add some purple to my system and want something a little more bold in nature than a Royal Gramma. Thanks!
Hey CJ, I have a 28gal, 90gal and a 180gal, I really like the 120 footprint. Did you order right from the SCA website? Is it worth the money? Are they easy to work with? I work full time. Any advice?
Kevin Dewey 120 footprint is perfect 24” front to back is what separates it from the rest. The depth give u a lot of options for aquascaping... I worked directly with Steve from the SCA website. He was very easy to work with... highly recommend at least having a convo with him before u buy elsewhere
CJ'S AQUARIUMS thank you! I have been following you for a while now, I've seen the progression, digression and everything in between. I saw that you got the 120 and Ide like to get rid of my 6ftx2ftx2ft for a nice new rimless 120gal, and you are very correct, I won't buy another tank unless it has that 2ft depth. Makes a world of difference. Definitely going to give them a call! Thanks bud.
Tank looks stable. You obviously did good research. It's cool how you put the effort into stopping fish from squabbling but maybe just don't mix territorial fish to save yourself and fish a lot of problems.
Hey CJ: let me start by saying I'm a huge fan. The videos of the JBJ got me into reefing in the first place, and now that i have a 40B tank in it's early-stages, I felt the need to document it, hoping i could influence someone else the way you did for me. I'd love it if you could check out my channel and leave a few pointers! Stay tuned for next week, if you're interested. I have NINE new frags in acclimation right now. Thanks!

Looks like your hard work is paying off: tank looks great. I love the choice of fish, and I'm sure the reef will be stunning when it fills in.

Happy to see everything is going well and looking forward to you adding lots of corals.

Love watching your vids. Keep up the good work. Should I avoid pukanii rock, and did you curel your rock before you put it in your tank?
illmanner415 no I didn’t cure it... next time I would def cure in brute can with lots of water changes for a couple months. Rock looks fantastic after the ugly phase I’d recommend it and use it again

Yeah keep s eye on that guy they can be sensitive like all angels watch his eating good luck
How Did get rid of your hair algea
Hi CJ,
What kind of purple wrasse is that in your tank? I'm looking to add some purple to my system and want something a little more bold in nature than a Royal Gramma.
Thanks!
only purple fish i have is tri-color fairy wrasse... the Blue head wrasse looks purple on camera sometimes.. maybe thats what u were seeing..
Gotcha. I think it's the Tri-Color that I was referring to. I'll have to keep an eye out at my LFS. Thanks again

I saw your post on reef2reef you selling the 120?
Rookie_Reefer no
CJ'S AQUARIUMS good!!! keep the 120 and keep the videos coming brotha 🍻
I think you should have never waited to put the corals in.... The uses algae needs silicates which the corals will use too...
Tank looks stable. You obviously did good research. It's cool how you put the effort into stopping fish from squabbling but maybe just don't mix territorial fish to save yourself and fish a lot of problems.
What mode do you leave your gyres on?
sam Costin still working that out... for now alternating 10s pulses 20% pwr
Hey cj just love your videos,
I just uploaded my first Vid... any advice you can give me for future uploads?
