I'm officially switching to Figma from Xd with pain in my heart. Adobe Xd has served me well since it came out, but I think that Adobe will continue with Figma and kill Xd eventually. Lot's of videos about Figma from now on! I will start with the basics of Figma, so don't worry. I will help everyone who also want to make this transition.
The journey continues, I taught myself XD for a year now since I'm in the Adobe ecosystem. But yeah, we gotta switch for the 'better' and I feel you for the transition. Lez go!
Nice! i've moved to Figma already but there are some features in XD that I hope adobe will implement in Figma like Repeat Grid, drag n drop image to object (faster/easier in XD compared to Figma's process), and fewer clicks to adjust mask box. pretty sure there's still more but this mini list is a big plus already.
Repeat grid is amazing but with figmas auto layout it gives you more power to make touches and adjustments in a similar manner and also helps when creating prototypes
Please do some targeted content on how to move from XD to Figma. Eg Component states, libraries etc. I already use both at work and can absolutely see the advantage of Figma’s web based ease, sharing and collaboration. However there are still some real advantages with XD that I really hope will transition into Figma. For example video has just arrived in Figma, but still no support for Lottie file animations. XD is much easier to use from an Adobe perspective. Sharing how you navigate your transition from XD to Figma would be really valuable. So with that in mind, I’ve just subscribed to your channel! Can’t wait.

Thank you for this!! Going through the same emotions as someone being around computers since the age of 5, learning Photoshop 7 to getting excited at PS getting artboards which helped a lot in web designing to completely shifting my design workflow to XD for years - this feels painful.
I started to learn web design in Adobe XD from your course. A few months ago during course about digital design I started to use Figma. And that was mind-blowing! This tool is a loooooot better than XD! You can think like a developer and a designer when building websites or apps in Figma. Figma has so many little things that XD is lacking. Great decision! 😁
I'm just discovering your channel and I love the way you explain very useful, clearly and concisely. Any advice about how to make a good brief and interview with the client I would love to know your process from the moment they start asking a question, especially how you manage the pricing if they want extra changes and tips about charging them in advance or at the end of the project??? would be very useful for starters. Please keep doing your videos, they're awesome. I just got subscribed :D
The only thing i miss in Figma is some integration with Photoshop, like XD does, just by adding a simple "edit in Photoshop" feature for image editions, it would be a great improvement to Figma
Hi Rino, I've also used photoshop so far, but actually wanted to switch to XD now. You made great videos and the tool was really promising. That's why I was a little shocked at first that you were changing. But what I've seen about Figma since yesterday, I can absolutely understand the switch. I will also work with Figma in the future and hope to see many more helpful videos from you. Greetings from Germany.
I've been thinking of switching to Figma too for a while, since I always heard people talking so positively about it. However, I was also hesitant like you since I was so used to XD and the other Adobe apps 😩But I think it's time to switch indeed... I'm curious for your new videos to learn more about Figma.
Watching this today I have noticed Xd is only available to download via the CC app. It has been unshelved. Certain things like repeater grids and auto populate images is something I've yet to see in figma. As well as the after effects workflow with Xd
I'm coming from years of using XD and I'm trying to adopt to Figma cause it's the chosen tool in another project. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. I sure miss the speed of XD and the actual prototyping features that I think exceeds what's possible in Figma. I'm talking about imitating UI functionality and interaction patterns etc. Figma is lacking behind in that department. I'm used to prototyping animations, UI components etc to demo functionality. With Figma I observe that the team designers don't actually choose to prototype, they make static UI "stills" so to speak and I think that they do that cause the options for anything else is sparse at best. That's a petty cause I enjoy Figma's collaboration features, that's the main strength of this application. To become something more Figma needs to better their prototyping tools. It's crucial to be able to demo stuff in an authentic manner for user tests and more. In Figma it's alot of linking static frames together. In XD it's a matter of prototyping on a more dynamic level. I also enjoy the Adobe echo system, seamlessly joining industry leading applications like PS, Illu, XD etc together. It's powerful.
Thank you, I agree, XD could probably die on the long run. But I'm still surprised that Adobe bought Figma for so much money when it has such a similar product in XD. Why wasn't it simply improved further, it already had a good user base? I don't think there will be a free version for Figma on the long run, Adobe has to recoup those huge expenses after all.
I also started with XD because there was no Window's version of Sketch. Then moved on to Sketch in 2018 for pretty much everything, but still kept tabs on XD, specially the prototyping. Then earlier this year started with Figma while Sketch still being my go to. However after the Adobe/Figma announcement I wen full on with Figma for all my personal stuff! Still use mostly Sketch at work in a production environment, as that's what most of our team uses, as well as what alot of client design system have been built on. Trying to keep tabs on three separate tools at a high level was a pain. Now I'm mostly vested in Figma/Sketch, but leaning hard on Figma!
Interested to know your thoughts on Adobe Express too. I'm wondering it we can use it as many companies use Canva to design templates for client use without a subscription for the client.
I used to use XD exclusively when it was completely free, so I switched to Figma when they introduced pricing, not because I wanted to use free tools, but rather because Adobe had stopped allowing my region (ZW) to purchase their products. Now that they have Figma, Figma very soon will not work in my country, so switching to Sketch will be the best choice.
I just discovered that Adobe XD is now in "maintenance mode" and is no longer available to purchase as a stand-alone app... so looks like Adobe is officially sunsetting XD. Time to learn Figma! Hey Rino do you have and Figma courses?
I began using XD a year and a half ago. I used Adobe software for years so I had a comfort level using an Adobe product for website layout. But, I switched to Figma about 6 months ago. It is a better program compared to XD. I believe Adobe came to that conclusion also.

Haha yea! Team Figma 💪🏼. Please explain why. I have seen that frames are better for many things, but is there no use at all for using groups in your perspective? And what about that rectangle comment? Do you also use frames to create rectangles?
@LivingWithPixels Frames in Figma were made specifically for UI design, and so they behave much like how you want the real web or app elements to behave in real life. They have scalable and responsive capabilities. Groups, on the other hand, were made for art, simply. They're not made for UI design and are neither scalable nor responsive. Plus when you use groups, there's no option to put a background colour or stoke or anything like that; you'd have to add a shape to the group to do that. For rectangles, I said you shouldn't use them because new Figma users tend to use them to create UI elements like buttons, cards, headers, etc. But this is wrong and won't work well for a real design. And yes, I use frames to create rectangles too. Even when I create art, I use frames. When I need a UI element to be a circle, I also use a frame, but I max out the border radius so it's a perfect circle. Finally, with frames, you unlock a world of possibilities in Figma. You can use auto layout (can't use with groups), which you'll love for the most part, but perhaps hate when you're just learning. 😂 When in doubt, use frames! 😂

Funny how these guys never mention the Lunacy editor from icons8 .... it is more powerful than xd or figma with ai powered tools .... format compatible and built-in graphics .... plus it works offline and is totally free ....
We have made the decision to make the switch after losing a big client over them wanting to only use Figma for designs. I have gone through a lot of research but this video is great because it comes from the perspective of someone that is an expert in XD. A lot of other videos are from only Figma people that don't actually know the good things about XD, I have started doing sites in Figma and I'm not sure if its something I have'nt got the hang of yet but XD seems to be much quicker. Prototyping seems harder in Figma, my designs are very static so far compared to XD designs. I hope that is my lack of knowledge at this stage.
Awwww I know the pain of using PC while all your fellow students used Mac, they made fun of me for using a “clunker.” It’s one of those things that teaches you how to work within your means.
Honestly I was skeptical when I watched this video. Then I launched Figma for the first time ever, drew a box at the top of the screen, and noticed that there was NO BORDER BY DEFAULT. That's all it took. Bye bye XD.

Yeah i too try and avoid adobe as much as possible. That is one of the reasons why i went with figma even when figma was new in the market and now they'll probably ruin it
You should have switched over a year ago when XD team started lagging on their promise of monthly feature drop. As for sketch, it died for neglecting windows. Now Microsoft has built so many plugins for Figma and has one of the most used and most popular "Content Reel". As for Apple, they have never contributed to the design community at large; Don't mention UIKit because it is required of every OS manufacturer (Google and Microsoft have theirs). They (Apple) also refused to release official UIKit for Figma because they wouldn't embrace the app which is FING ridiculous. I don't know why people rate that stupid company. You've made a good choice by switching.

after i watch your video i bought adobe xd and start learn and waiting your course to come out now you are tell me you are changing
I am sorry, I also didn't know this was hanging above our heads. And besides that, the time you spent learning Xd isn't wasted because it's very similar to Figma. Figma just has more features (roughly speaking)
@@rinodeboer thanks if they similar i will continue learn xd and when i will be good i will change also
Awesome!
@@rinodeboer i found you on udemy i didnt know just i wanna confirm on xd course you design portfolio website and make it with elementor for the other course right ?
Yes! But that course is already a little bit old, so there might be some things that are different in Elementor.
Thanks Rino, this has made up my mind as it has accrued to me Adobe would do as you have said!
Great to hear! That was my goal with this video 👌🏼
DIDNT ADOBE BOUGHT FIGMA?
Dank u wel ;-)
AH yes, much to my and many others' dismay, "Change is the only constant" :)
Sold - switching to Figma!
Adobe buying Figma. Anf what will happen to Zeplin?? 😅
If only figma can introduce repeat grid
I don't know... this only makes me dislike Adobe even more. Lately I've been using alternatives to Adobe software, using Resolve instead of Premiere for example. Anyway, hopefully they won't destroy Figma.
Nice
Welcome to FIGMA!
New Name: Adobe Figma XD - The best of both worlds.
