Its been a great day of motorcycle touring and once again the weather was nice, all going well until we try and find a campsite to pitch the tent for the night.

Still catching up & I am glad to see you finally got some good weather. Just a shame about that camp site. Back in 1988 I decided to go to the Bol d' Or Paul Ricard with some mates . As it closer to Sept they all gradually bottled it , none of us had ever been abroad on our bikes before , so determined to go I set off on my own. Prior to leaving everyone told me I would have no trouble finding a camp site in France so that sounded great. Anyway cutting it short I got totally lost and every time I saw a sign for a camp site I would ride to it and find it closed. Yes there were plenty of camp sites but most of them weren't open in September so I really understand how you were both feeling. Cutting the story short I ended up camping in a public park for a night and when I got to the race circuit the toilets were as bad or even worse than what you had. Just for the record I too spent most of my time riding in the rain along with The Mistrel winds I heard never heard of before. But as they say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Subsequent trips have been so much easier. Looking forward to catching up on your Scotland trip soon.

So much to learn on everyone's first bike trip abroad, the main thing is our expectation that the weather will always be sunny or dry. i took some things with me that i didn't use too which was a waste of time.
Next time i will be better prepared, and places to sleep will be planned rather than turning up unannounced, at the very least make a phone call and book first thing in the morning, before travelling to somewhere that's closed 🙄

Had my share of looking around to find a camp site in the days before Sat Nav, looking through a camp site directory and a map to try and find one in the UK. Trying to find the route through back roads using the map in a holder on the tank. Decided to give one farm site a miss after checking out the toilets, made these look luxurious. Setting up my tent by the light from my headlight as I couldn't find a site until it was getting dark. Some of the reasons why I now have all of my Hotels prebooked on a planned route.

He lives in a static caravan, they need to invest some of the camp money on the site lol

The bog roll thing is common in Europe. I think I’ve only ever had bog roll on one of them and it was a 4/5* with a pool etc

To be honest it looked like it didn't get used much, so cant say i was surprised 😉

I guess the first thing you need to ask is, why would anyone visit Belgium, so why would there be loads of campsites? Only ever ridden through Belgium to get somewhere else.

Well that's one way of looking at it.
Personally i like Belgium, i love the historic places and war stuff, it's a hotbed for that kind of thing for obvious reasons.

Just seen a later video, forgive my ignorance of the war graves in Belgium and why people would want to go. My wife's grandfather was at Ypres and Passendale, he survived both.
