another point on the bigger than soccer thing, the biggest matches and tournaments in football are on free tv in most countries outside america, not behind an $80 paywall
A lot of major football leagues are not on free TV, but it's nowhere close to being as expensive as watching UFC pay per view.
I'd imagine there'd be actual riots if anyone tried moving football to a pay per view model.

As a Brazilian I would caution that the reason we love soccer is largely because we used to be the best at it. At this rate though, MMA may very well become our national sport 50-100 years from now.

No one really watches the actual fights themselves, that's why Dana only brags about "oh yeah slap is doing big numbers on social media" like of course it is, it's people SLAPPING EACH OTHER AS HARD AS THEY CAN! very easy to react to , very easy to get views from people detracting as well

I love MMA but football has 160 odd years of tradition & growth. It's absolutely ingrained in the local & national culture of so many towns, cities & countries around the world. You can't understand the culture of the UK, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Nigeria, or many other countries around the world without understanding football. I was in rural Moldova recently, hardly a footballing powerhouse, & saw kids kicking balls through the street & local village games on the weekend, ffs.

I don't know if you're American, but I don't think you understand how culturally ingrained football is in so many countries around the world. Some people build their entire lives around it. Whole communities revolve around certain clubs. It's more than just a sport. It's part of the national identity & culture for almost every Western European, African, & Latin American country, plus it's still growing in places like Asia, North America & Australia. It's not even reached its peak in popularity yet despite already being many times more popular than any other sport.
Plus, many people just have a visceral aversion to violence. So, MMA will always have a lower potential ceiling than football.

The idea that MMA can "never" be more popular than soccer seems like a bit of an overstatement. It has already gone from virtual nonexistence to being a bullion dollar global industry in less than 30 years. If it continues to grow at the same rate, it could easily challenge soccer within a generation or two.

I disagree. MMA is basically the UFC. ONE, Rizin, PFL and so on are bleeding money. They don't put up events almost every weekend. They don't have significant numbers. But even if you put them together there is no way they come close to football. Even football in country's which don't have a long lasting football background like Japan or Korea is bigger than MMA.
European football teams sell out stadiums ranging from 20k to almost 100k EVERY weekend. UFC doesn't even try to do stadium shows.
