I operated Valravn this year and the "shoes only" policy was supposed to prevent guests from going to the bins because it slows down dispatch times significantly. Ride ops get a lot of pressure to hit certain numbers of riders every day, but I think both ops and guests would have a better experience if we didn't feel pressured to constantly rush to hit certain numbers.

I definitely appreciate you and every other CP employee for doing a good job enforcing rules, it’s definitely not easy to do sometimes and especially these days. I do kinda wish rules were more consistent across the park for each coaster at CP, seems to be different for every ride but that ain’t on you haha.

As a Midwesterner that’s been to my Olympus half a dozen times over the past decade, insane roughness is hades’ normal state. There’s a reason a 130 foot inverting GG coaster barely cracks anyone’s top 5 traditional woodies

Nitro dropped many spots in my rankings over the years. It's my first hyper and the hyper I've ridden most at over 200 times. It used to be in my top 5 when I was younger but as I rode more coasters, it is ranked 17 and basically tied with Steel Force at Dorney Park. I'll take Copperhead Strike, Storm Runner, and Dragster over Nitro. Nitro also is inconsistent. Some days, it hauls, but others it runs very slow. And each train is different in terms of smoothness, one train can be very smooth but another can be very rough.

    • @thomasxl200
      @thomasxl200 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@juiceboxer100 Dude I have ridden both at least 30 times this year, and I am 100% serious when I say Steel Force has more consistent airtime. The midcourse barely hits and the airtime post-midcourse is better than Nitro's almost every time. If you were talking about Mamba / Wild Thing you would have a point tho

10 that dropped in my rankings in 2021:
Carolina Cyclone (Carowinds)- Used to think it was one of the better smaller Arrow Loopers- Not any more. Very rough this year. Horrible transitions.
Hurler (Carowinds)- Used to think it was average. Very rough this year.
Scream (SFMM)- Drops more as I ride it more and ride quality Floorless coasters like Kraken.
Mystery Mine (Dollywood)- Still find it very rough overall. Not my favorite at Dollywood.
Blue Streak (Cedar Point)- Much rougher this year and less air time as well.
Wicked (Lagoon)- Just something about this coasters is not comfortable. More pain in the legs this year. I wish it had better restraints. Almost fell to 4th best in park.
Electric Eel (SWSD)- I find the Sky Rocket II a little less enjoyable this year.
Intimidator (Carowinds)- I rode it much more this year and it used to be my #2 at Carowinds. Now my #4.
Millennium Force (Cedar Point)- Has dropped to #5 at Cedar Point for me, rides weren't as good this year.
Timber Terror (Silverwood)- Previously rode it backwards. Didn't have the same thrill factor and air time forwards as those previous rides.

Interesting. Intimidator moved up my overall list, as my 2021 rides were far better than my 2018 rides. I agree that Blue Streak had less airtime. I kind of hated Scream before, but after getting back on it a couple weeks ago, I'm alright with it now, even if I still have it as a lower tier floorless, far above Firebird, the worst coaster ever, but maybe behind Patriot.

The Beast at Kings Island got so much more painful this year. I remember on one ride during the first turn after the drop, it felt like my right hip dislocated. I reached 150 inversions in a day in 2019. Last winter, I had a day with 20 rides on Kumba, 10 on Montu, plus a few other rides put me over 210 inversions.

I am a strong believer in riding non-wheel seats, especially in the back of the train. For example, The Beast beats the crap out of me in the backseat, but by moving up only one row, I still get that back of the train experience without having my bones rattled.

I feel the same way about Nitro. It's always been my "home hyper" but I got back into the hobby big this year and picked up 40 new credits. As I compared the new credits, Nitro just, kept sliding. I got so many rides this year that I've seen Nitro at it's worst, and it's best; sometimes it really blows me away and feels like the elite hyper I worshipped as a kid, and sometimes I get off and think "I totally get why people rag on this."

Maybe I caught Prowler on a good day because my 2 rides were phenomenal. It wasn't quite Mystic Timbers but it wasn't too far behind. As far as wood coaster roughness goes, wait until you get my age, I'll be 50 in a few weeks. Mine Blower totally screwed me up & ruined my visit to BGT two days later. I didn't ride Hades 360 last season, but I have been visiting Mt. Olympus somewhat consistently over the last decade. I'm thinking that the park was able to do some significant track work on it due to the delayed opening in 2020, and it may have caused the ride to run pretty well last year. While my rides on it this season were pretty rough, it wasn't any rougher than I remember it being in past seasons. The pre-lift section is still significantly better than it used to be.

I was impressed w Valravn when I 1st rode it on my 1st day ever visiting Cedar Point when in the two hours on May 21st 2018 when I rode 11 rides on 10 coasters and was the tallest and fastest coaster I'd ever been on, beaten three times within the previous 40 minutes when I rode Raptor in the back right seat (which at the time was the longest, tallest and fastest coaster I'd been on since Rolling Thunder at Great Adventure in 1981), then Wicked Twister, (beating my height, drop and speed records,) then Gatekeeper in the back left wing side, followed by Valravn in the back, which decapitated the the hoodie of my cheap Canadian Tire rain shell that Gatekeeper merely ripped. Valravn had some fun positive Gs but I didn't get that much from the drops. It's also too short a ride. I prefer Yukon Striker and I'd probably also prefer Griffon; the biggest B&M dive coaster with OTCSRs (restraints I usually hate but prefer on B&M dive coasters.) But at Cedar Point I prefer Rougarou by a slim margin due to it having a longer ride, which I rode after Valravn that day. The I beat all those records after that by riding Millennium Force. Then I rode Maverick before the park closed for the day. I went to bed dreaming of Steel Vengeance the next day.

There is so much that goes into your enjoyment of a rollercoaster, like i rode Velicocoaster, Hagrid's, and Hulk coaster then went back to my home and rode Joker and Medusa 2 days later and I just felt them being so mediocre after spending 4 days riding those and a day binging Manta and Mako.
Also California being much colder than Florida also ruined the ride experience even more. Wait time can also affect the ride quality as well as park operations.

Funny, when Valravn appeared at #1 I thought we would have similar complaints but not at all. I found it to be the roughest B&M I’ve ridden outside of Scream. Every ride I had was in the fron or back, far left or far right. And every valley has such a rattle I nearly got a headache. I had to stop after just 2 rides early in the day, and 2 more rides late in the day. Following day I gave up after 1. The trains must need some work, it can’t be the track.

Valravn isn't bad, but it's not good either. I rode it once in 2016 for my first ride of the day and twice this year when I was working at the park (once as my last ride before Steel Vengeance Ride night and another day toward the end of my time where I basically rode all 4 B&M's in the PM because Gatekeeper went down so I sucked up and rode Val). I think I've been in row 2 every time I've ridden it so I think its more fun seeing other people get scared riding it than the ride itself. I really noticed pain from the vests, but only when the ride was not in motion, which I guess saves it from being garbage.

Tip about Hoosier Hurricane, the front rows are the roughest, as a person who has ridden it over 20 times, the best seat is the second to last row, you can feel some floater and it's not too rough, but then again it is in my top 10 least favorite coasters.

Maybe age is part of it, as I turned 30 this year, or maybe it’s because I went by myself and didn’t have anyone to share the experience with, but as a stand-alone ride, it was pretty unremarkable.

Your experience with Valravn would make me drop any coaster in rankings. Those kind of things can always have an effect on how we feel about a ride. For me, my Valravn rides were great this year, as smooth and forceful as ever. Nitro was just as good as 2 years ago for me. I haven't gotten back on Hades 360, but that makes me sad to hear it's getting so rough. I have some notable drops in my rankings after rerides this year:
Lightning Rod (big drop): The ejector of the past is now only floater. It's top quality floater, but the much slower launch has it running far slower throughout the whole layout.
Full Throttle: It's as enjoyable as before, but the strict row assignments, and the only long line in the park, were a buzzkill.
Voyage: Just a little though. It was riding quite rough during HoliWood Nights this year, but in late July, it was riding great again.
Top Thrill Dragster (biggest drop in my rankings): Ridiculous amount & frequency of breakdowns on my visit, plus Kingda Ka was stronger and more reliable on that same trip.
X2: The new strict side & row assignments might have been a buzzkill, but I also maybe rode it too much, causing the insanity level to drop slightly.

I rode hoosier hurricane 4 or 5 times this year and I noticed that if you sit in the front row of a car (any odd numbered row) you will have a much smoother experience than if you sat in the back row of a car. I don't know how they're doing things over in the States but on my recent trip to Thorpe Park, which is my home park, the trains were being sent off half full (one rider/one group per row, so often rows and cars would literally have just one person in them) and this made some of the rides slower, so maybe these coasters will go back up your rankings when things are a bit more normal!

My Rides that dropped of my 144 credits:
-Storm Chaser: the first half is nearly flawless, but after the final inversion, all the final bit does is bruise your thighs. This ride is definitely running faster than 2020, but it’s hard to reride and enjoy the world class airtime with rmcs restraints (#10 -> #16)
-Mystic Timbers: This ride is a dream of a wooden coaster, but this year I noticed it’s main flaw and that is force. The pacing, layout, and setting are actually incredible for a wooden coaster, but the airtime is weak, and the only positive gs are after first drop. Still insanely smooth and re-rideable, just not as exciting or impressive as I remembered. (#8 -> #20)
-Hagrids Magical Creatures: I used to be a huge fanboy of this ride, but I’ve noticed that it loses its wow factor after repeated rides. Still one of the best rollercoasters in the world for first time riders, and in my opinion the best themed rollercoaster I’ve been on, it’s just that it’s surprises carry the ride, and that has worn off a bit. (#13 -> #19)
-Lightning Run: Just not as powerful as 2020, still an incredible ride with an insane first drop (#22 -> #26)
-Thunderhead: This ride dropped from #12 to #27 within a single day. My first ride was a front row night ride and rocked my world. No other ride I’ve gotten so far has come remotely close to replicating that the following day at Dollywood. Also there’s this one part that needs to be retracked that I dread every ride
