    I am with you when it comes to footpeg location. I learned to ride back when most all bikes had the pegs on or near the vertical line with the back of the tank. Working on finding a welder to assist me in changing the position of the pegs on my Virago. The early Viragos were only slightly forward of the normal, the later ones are way forward and I don't feel as in control that way. Pegs being forward puts more weight on your butt, bad for long rides for me ( back injury).
    Remember when air filters were something bolted to the rear of the carb, or a sponge like material held on with string or lock wire? My 67 Triumph lost one of the round filter assemblies on a couple of occasions. Owner maintenance is getting harder and harder.

      Hello Senior rider. I guess I am in your group because I seem to remember most of my air filters looking similar to my kitchen sponges! Which I would use if I have riding on a weekend and needed a replacement filter! Did not make much difference on performance and it was much cheaper o:))) Cheers

      @@seniorrider9337 Did that too. It was great when your first pair of socks got wet since GoreTex did not exist back then you just had to rotate them and you would always have a dry pair. And when I tell the guys at my dealership they look at me like I am nuts!

      @senior rider - Lol, I've lost an open filter a time or two over the years..! They breath so well, you didn't always hear an intake sound change and didn't realize it had come loose, or worse, fell completely off on the road or trail...
      My back can only handle so much of the clamshell riding position pounding... Lol
      Thanks!!

      As a short person just getting into riding in my mid fifties, I really wonder why all the bike makers have mostly gone to forward pegs/boards. I can't reach forward controls so it's mid pegs or nothing for me. Shawn you and I have discussed the Honda CMX500 several times. That little bike is almost the only one on the market now that I think would be a really decent bike to start out with, was looking at a 2011 Suzuki S40 Boulevard but they sold it before I could get my endorsement. So, I'm back to the CMX500. The big problem I've seen with that bike is it's still new enough that I can't find good used bikes. But i guess its cheap enough to spring for it new. Might just have to do that. Well Shawn, you and Momma take care, I'll see you tomorrow. God bless.
      - Rob

    Not gonna lie....6k valve adjustments would be a deal killer. Agree with you regarding foot position. This is the reason why I didn't like the Spyder F3 Limited and most cruiser bikes.

    • @TheSmoaksVlogs
      @TheSmoaksVlogs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Amazingly easy to inspect valve clearance, and adjust when needed..! Stone simple and anyone can do it.
      Thankfully the new Spyder RT allows you to have your feet wherever you wish, though the 2014~2019 RT floorboards were mostly neutral...
      Thanks Steven!!

    Sounds to me theres a motion detector built into the key fob. So if you tarry, the night lights stay on so you can see what youre looking at. It would be very cool if there was a light that came on when you sat on it, so if you were parked in a tight to get out of spot, you could also see what youre looking at. Theres an entire catalog of Aftermarket ideas for this bike!! Who knows? I might dip into that some myself.

  • @johnmfjw
    @johnmfjw 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The lights might stay on for a minute or two as they assume you will keep the bike in a garage so this will give you time to make an exit.

    • @TheSmoaksVlogs
      @TheSmoaksVlogs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's cool that the bike senses you moving and keeps them on longer, or so it seems... I need to look into this..!

    Shawn, Your videos are fantastic. Any chance of doing an oil check video on K1600? Sounds simple, but just got the bike and it’s not as straight forward as my Harley. Much appreciated. And who are you kidding, that R18 will be in your barn before you know it

    • @TheSmoaksVlogs
      @TheSmoaksVlogs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll try when I get the chance... It's like a Spyder, it has to be at full operating temperature (not just idling for a while in your shop!), let it idle for a minute or two in an upright position (center stand is fine) and check it within a couple minutes of shutting it down... Don't make it a goal to go for the high point, too easy to overfill. Anything between the low and high mark is perfectly fine! I go for just under the full mark during a fresh change.
      Thanks David!!

  • @TJRohyans
    @TJRohyans 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's all in what you're used to I guess. Other than the Buelle Blast I rode in the MSF course, I've only ridden forward control Cruisers. And to me, it's quite comfortable. But on a long, 300-400 mile day I'm putting my feet in all sorts of locations just for variation. I do agree that some of those guys look silly all splayed out like they are sometimes. And massive Ape Hangars? Don't even go there! LOL! Peace and love.

    Valve check every 6,200 miles? Wow.

    • @oldninjarider
      @oldninjarider 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well think of the expansion / contraction of the Engine with heat cycling. It probably grows 80 to 100 thousandths every time you run it then shrinks back when it cools off.

    • @slyguyaction
      @slyguyaction 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Will Wood,
      That’s true. It’d be quite often if you ride ten to fifteen thousand miles per year tho. After the first few times a guy could get pretty familiar with the process.

    • @oldninjarider
      @oldninjarider 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@slyguyaction well if you ever owned an old air cooled VW it just became a routine thing to check the valve adjustment every time you changed oil.
