I knew this was the Route 66 episode for me when scanning TH-cam once I seent the Caddyshack bushwood t-shirt LMAO. Ty Webb would be proud if he seen this one I'm sure. Na na na na na na na. Much props my good man. Thanks for the show.
This brings back memories. We drove the full route in 2015 from LA to Chicago. Great time, so much to see and lots of history. We agree about the cities. Got lost in St Louis in the worst rain storm I’ve ever seen. Knee deep water in a matter of minutes! Everyone should do this trip at least once in their lifetime- well that’s my opinion!😮 Thanks for the trip down memory lane John.
Gosh this was a fun adventure 👍We used to take 66 to visit grandparents in Modesto, so we left 66 at Barstow I believe. This brought back great memories, the last time we went as a family was in 1970. I remembered seeing some of the places Yes, those roads could be treacherous, imagine doing 55mph all day. My uncle and his family died in a terrible wreck just before Needles, in 1975 I think. I remember the reservations and seeing indians on horseback in their vicinity. Daddy Always drove over the Mohave at night to keep the car from overheating. We stopped at the last station before the Mohave and Daddy asked for water, for us and the car. The man charged daddy 2 dollars a gallon, a goodly sum back then. We would stop at rest stops, mom would cook on a camp stove while we kids ran around. We didn't have time and money for the shops and such, mom and dad would find motels with rooms about 16.00 every night. Daddy told us to watch out for Sidewinders, he said they crawled sideways. We ran around trying to find one so we could watch it! 😂 Really enjoyed the spectacular drone shots, I remember those hilly, hairpin turn roads, and the trains that seemed miles long and were moving faster than we were. Thanks for taking us along! Stay safe and GOD bless 😢
Grew up in Tulsa 3 blocks South of Hwy 66 in the 1960's. Bowled at the Rose Bowl and the Oil Driller statue was at our fair grounds. It was a great childhood there.
Seeing the abandoned schools reminds me I may know what it feels to see your school abandoned 40 years from now. I went to Hadley Middle School for 6th grade and that was one of the schools the city chose to shut down.
Your most enjoyable video to date. Looked like a lot of editing. Loved the dates and info on the screen along with all your drone video, very informative.
Many thanks for the very informative and inspiring video! Am from the UK, planning Route 66 on my 66th birthday in 2026 (also R66 centenary year) looking forward to it! May I ask is you have any details of your soundtrack? Some good tunes to add to our playlist! 🤠
Really loved this video. I really enjoy the whole video from Chicago to California did not realize San Monica was the end of 66 I was born and raised in California and did not know that Santa Monica was on Route 66
Thank you for this. I usually just end up watching the playlist you made for this trip and now I can just go to one video! If you’re ever interested another random route, I recommend Route 81. Starts in Texas and ends in Pembina, ND :)
Looking forward to watching the Route 66 video. Will watch tomorrow. We have been busy with hubby's ear surgery, so your new video will be a welcomed fun time. Keep up the good work.
Good job Wise Guy 👏. Canadian here from Victoria BC Canada. Travel similar to your trips. Been to 34 states so far . Route 66 California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma been through sections. Love to see and do the whole thing eventually. Keep up the good work. 🍻 cheers
I think the turkey tracks would be fun to see. that bird had no clue his prints were immortalized. you're staring at the feet of a more than 100 year old bird, evidence that at least that one bird existed. I kind of enjoy that idea.
Great video, Coach! I like to think about the thousands of people that were headed to California in the 1930’s along this route, hoping for a better life. The Grapes of Wrath has always been one of my favorite books and movie. In the scene where Grandpa Joad dies and the family has to bury him along the road. They don’t have any money for a funeral and they don’t want to involve law enforcement. This scene is very poignant. How many unmarked graves are along Route 66 from the Dust Bowl and Depression years? No one knows for sure.
Lived in San Monkey 3 blocks from the beach and pier for 10 years through the entire 1990's. If you have to live in LA probably the best place to be. Cheap then with rent control now very very $$$.
oh hey, another call back to the past. I've been trying to limit my sugar intake lately and have been enjoying from Quik Trip its no sugar watermelon slushie
John, just be glad you didn't stay in the Westerner motel in Sayer, Ok. It's just old and getting run down. It was the only thing Mom & I could find one evening. Bathroom door was only about 20? inches wide and Mom was in a wheelchair. Fun night.
Great compilation. I’ll have to go back and watch the individual state segments now. I generally try to avoid large cities so I will probably never try the entire route. I’d probably just figure out how to bypass those metropolises. I have a couple of questions that apply to this video and some of your others; How do you do all the research to get the information on when a motel or other business or attraction started and/or ended and when you post the cost of the motels you stayed in did you include the taxes? I wonder what the costs of those places would be now considering the inflation of recent years.
Yeah the cities are the worst part - but it’s still worth it from beginning to end! For this video, there is a lot of information on the historical buildings so that helps. Both books and online. And yes I included the taxes. It was cheaper during Covid for sure.
I was wondering, can you just key into a GPS "Route 66" and it will tell you exactly where to go or is this one of those you have to do the old fashion paper map kind of thing?
From what I remember there is a Route 66 app you can use to follow the route. But it often goes on the modern version and I was always looking for the old parts of the road. So I used a couple different maps and apps to track it.
I was surprised that your first tee shirt was advertising North Dakota. I was raised in Tioga ND. What does the shirt say: "North DA . . . A, WHERE THE . . . . . .AM"? The safety belt was covering up the missing letters.

This is going to be great. I'll be watching since I want to do this next year. Thank you for the long video.
Definitely put this together in one video based on your suggestion! Thank you - hope all is well!

I can’t believe you didn’t show the Uranus fudge shop, always a unique highlight. After watching the entire video I want to say fine job my friend 😎
It’s been so long since I did this I thought I did show it 😂
What a great video. I will never see route 66 in person. Thanks for sharing your journey with me.
It's disgusting. Not funny. 2 different things.

Thank you for putting this all together for us. I believe with another 14 days you could have picked up many many more attractions.
I would’ve loved to have taken a longer trip 😊

Well done Mr. Wise! I typically don’t sit this long, but this filled in a lot of blanks- and, I couldn’t stop. (plus it’s raining) 🙏❤️😎👍

Terrific ❣️🥁

there are dog tracks too a couple hundreds yards (west) of the turkey tracks. and some in carlinville at the cemeteries

I've driven past that meadow gold sign in Tulsa a thousand times. Them motels are dotted all over Route 66. Hard to believe they're still open.

And with all of the fire stations, it would take me three times as long to make the trip.
I just visited Clinton and elk City Oklahoma this week. Someday I go to Texas and new Mexico.
