Retire as soon as you can afford to. Pay off your home and get out of debt. After retirement my wife and I had 12 years of cruises, travel and family interactions. Then she died suddenly of a brain stroke. While planning her funeral I learned I had stage 4 prostrate cancer. I am so glad we retired early and enjoyed great moments during such time. I am still in treatment and staying as close as possible to my daughters and grandkids. A job is no substitute for family.
Wow. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sorry about the loss of your wife. You helped her but now you go through it alone. I realize family is helping your spirit. Best wishes to you my friend. Buzz
Thank you for sharing your very personal reason Buzz! I am learning as much as I can about retirement because I want to have my husband retire before the recommend age of 67. It takes a a lot of guts to retire at an ‘early’ age. I have been speaking with my aunt years ago and based on what she was telling me, I was nudging her to have her husband retire before he is 65. Fast forward to last year, he died before he retired at 62 after he spent a year in the hospital.
God bless you. Prayers for you and your family. What courage and grace. Truly an inspiration. My hubby has survived 2major heart attacks. He has continued to work in a labor intensive industry. He is retiring next year when he turns 62 Lord willing and take his SS.
I started listening to your channel right before Christmas. No words to express the loss of your daughter. My daughter was killed by drunk driver a year ago, she was 27. I have been struggling since losing her and my job has been my lifeline keeping me busy, I will turn 64 this year. This video compelling me to retire by next March. Appreciate you keeping it real.
I am so sorry to read of the loss of your daughter. Especially by some asshole drunk driver. I hope the driver got what's coming to him/her. Just remember we will see our girls again. One day at a time and you and I just keep moving forward. 🙏. Buzz
When we got the results of my first post treatment PET scan, we cried. Dr said I had no detectable cancer from my eyes to my thighs. Like you said there is no feeling like it. My wife and I just held each other, cried and thanked the Lord. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for sharing your story. It's not so different from my own. I was fortunate to have a great job with great bosses for 20 years. As I turned 63 that all changed. Company leadership changed (for the worse). I went to the hospital with a very bad case of covid and survived by what I truly believe was the power of prayer. I then received notice my employer wanted to pay out my pension immediately in a lump sum, just as I had payed off all my bills! I retired in Oct after my 63rd birthday and never looked back.
Hey Buzz. You are what I want from youtube. A real guy speaking his heart. I’m 18 years behind ya, but we speak the same language. I hope you continue to have a good time in retirement and keep talking to us, brother.
Good talk Buz, I'm retiring from Publix Supermarket here in Miami, FL. after 39 1/2 years this November 1st God willing. Everyone from the Supervisors to all my co-workers said stay till I hit 40 next year when I'll be 61 1/2. or at least after Thanksgiving ( Which my Dad passed 12 yrs ago from Cancer at 74 Thanksgiving morning 😥) I'm single with 3 adult daughters no Grands yet. Thanksgiving is by far the worst time to be working in a grocery store, even though we're off that day everyone is required to come back the next day "black Friday" In all my 39 years I've requested, requested and even after my Dad passed on Thanksgiving, came back to work. This is my year to put a stop to that and start enjoying the time and life God has given me. Thanks for sharing your personal retired life. I will be following, you're a good guy 👍
Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! You did the work and it's time to get out. Don't let anyone convince you different. If your wallet says go, then go. You'll always have the memories but now you'll start your new stress free life!
Buzz, your sincerity and humanity really shines through here. I think your retirement was a good call. You can be more active and really take better care of yourself.
I'm 57 and have already had skin cancer. 20 years in the military, exposed to all kinds of BS. Counting the days until I have something go wrong. Trying to live every day to the fullest.
Same here. I’ve lost three close military brothers to cancer and so far it hasn’t hit me yet. FYI the VA has started a program with a company that will test for about 30 types of cancer
Thanks for sharing your story. I can relate and agree. I enjoy time much more than money. At age 18 in a motorcycle accident I had head injury. By age 30 I started having seizures. I was blessed and able to continue working and retired at 62. Doing great now living at a slow pace and enjoying every day to its fullest.
Thanks for sharing your story. I've lost several friends to cancer. And the older we get, the more it happens. One of my co-workers said he always figured I'd work until I was 70, to get the max soc sec, cuz I'm so frugal . I laughed and said "I'm frugal so I can retire NOW !!" at 65.... No one is promised tomorrow.
Good for you Buzz! I had one of my staff lose his adult Daughter at the last place I worked.. I cannot imagine the pain, but as his boss I could certainly see the hurt up close! Like you I had the same feeling about life expectancy, i.e none of us know what we got left.. I quit work at the age of 52. I have been back to do the odd consultancy project since then but mostly have been re-inventing myself for the last 11 years without a job. Best decision I ever made!
Im mid-40’s, plan to retire@ 65 unless I encounter similar situations as you. If either my or my loved ones encounter life changing events Ill adjust accordingly. Until then Im waiting to find that BIG payday $$$ thatll let me retire tomorrow!!! 🧞♂️ 👩❤️💋👨 🧞 👩👩👧👦 🧞♀️🤴
Im turning 63 shortly, and have decided to retire in March. Like you, Im debt free, except my house, which us at 2.7 %, and has less than 10 years left. I hate my job, and dont want to deal with corporate drama any longer my Dad just passed at age 93. That hss convinced me to retire now, while my health is good. Who knows how long that will last? By the way, Im sorry about your daughter, and your personal cancer battle. Wishing you a long happy life.
Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! The way I look at, we retire young, so to speak, and we can take a part time job if necessary. Good luck to you! Buzz
@@BuzzRetirementGarage EXACTLY. I'm a Firearms Instructor, and been doing it as a volunteer for the last 10 years. Now I can probably get a job teaching part time and make $40/hour.
Liked and subscribed. Let's get this guy some TH-cam income. Buzz, I'm 58 and trying to figure out the retirement thing. Really appreciate your channel and want to offer my condolences on the loss of your daughter. Hang in there, man. Putting one foot in front of the other is all we can do. Cheers.
I've been watching your channel periodically and just ran into this one tonight. A few responses. First, I retired in March of 2021 the day after my 62nd birthday. Like the friend that you mentioned, my older sister was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at age 45. Although she did every treatment offered, she eventually passed away two months shy of her 50th birthday. My father-in-law was diagnosed with prostate cancer at age 60 and later, 2X with colon cancer but 31 years later, he's still up and about. On November 19th, 2010, my eldest son, who was in the process of attending the Columbus PD academy was found deceased on the floor of his bedroom in an apartment that he shared with his best friend. He was 27 years old, and cause of death was an aortic dissection. I survived a pedestrian run in with a vehicle on a Saturday evening on12/17/2022 in downtown Cleveland. A few years younger and a step or two faster, I'd most likely been a fatality. Thank God for the aging process. So, like you and your family, life has thrown my wife and I a few curve balls. My wife and I have a remaining son, who just turned 34. He along with my beautiful daughter-in-law have given us two granddaughters (5/13/21 and 7/6/23) and like you, we want to continue on with life for them. A bit of good news, my Medicare kicked in on 3/1/24 and I turn 65 on 3/24. Good luck to your family and you and hope to continue watching and subscribing to your channel.
Thank you very much for your comment. One of the questions we ask is, "why us?" Then when I read stories like yours the answer becomes clear that it's not just us but many people go through some tough times. That thought process has helped us to get through our tragedies. I'm sorry to read about your sister and son. I'm glad that your FIL is hanging in there. Tomorrow is promised to no one and you and I have to go day by day. Stay in touch my friend. Buzz
I’m so sorry about your daughter. The trauma must have overwhelmed you, your wife and family. It’s not something you ever recover from. You just learn to live with it. We lost our 31 year old nephew suddenly (motorcycle accident) in May of 2022. 11 days later my husband found his 62 year old brother deceased on the floor in his home.(heart attack) 2 months later I was diagnosed with urinary tract cancer. 2022 absolutely stunk. My cancer is under control but the constant monitoring takes a toll. All of these events have caused my husband and me to reevaluate and he has decided to retire this April at age 62 1/2 and start collecting his SS. (I’m already retired and on SS) We have so much we want to do and see while we are still able to. God Bless you Buzz. Keep the videos coming!
Wow! I know I'm not the only one with life issues. I'm truly sorry for the events you described and I hope you keep getting better and better! Thank you for your kind words. Buzz
I am dealing with prostate cancer I have gone through 28 rounds of radiation and I’m have way the ADT (Lupron) shots. Still working plan to work until 65 I’ll be 63 this June. I willing would like to retire sooner than later but don’t think I can. I will rethink it through. The things you said about family grandkids hobbies just slowing down and enjoying life sounds so wonderful. I’m glad you’re able to do those things. Thanks for being so transparent with your life. God Bless
Thank you for sharing your story. I wish you well. The unknown is always the hardest for me. I'm hoping the next couple years go quickly and by then the troubles will be behind you. Stay in touch! Buzz
God bless brother, from Scotland. I an 64 this year, I lost my elder brother in 1979, my father in 1985, mother a couple of years later, my older sister a few years later again, then 25 years ago my ex wife ran of with my two children that I havent seen since, ans just lats year my nephew ( my dead brothers son) rook his life on Christmas day, so brother l can certainly see where you are coming from, stay strong.
Thank you for your comment. Your life has had a few twists and turns. Some things we expect but some things we just don't see coming and that's the tough part. In all, we keep moving forward. Best wishes to you in Scotland! Buzz
👍 if you can retire early, do it!! You can always work part time on retirement, you’re allowed to keep all of your income up to a certain point and then for every little bit you make, the government takes a small portion, like every two dollars you make they take a dollar. For people who say oh I’m going to wait till I’m 70 for close to it, before I retire. Well, your health could be a lot less healthy at 70 then it will be at 60 or 62! The older you get the harder to do the things that you want to do when you’re old! Retire early if you set yourself up, have everything paid for. Don’t just sit in a chair, go and enjoy your retirement !! My husband waited for retirement. He couldn’t wait. We had plans taken off, things to do ,places to see. Exactly 6.5 months before he was to retire, he went to the doctor due to some health issues, then within two hours he received a call back from the doctor saying, we believe you have cancer! Pancreatic cancer, at age 62 😢. He lived 18 months after his diagnosis.😢 he’s been gone seven years next month😢 Go and enjoy your time that you worked so hard for.👍
Thank you for commenting. I advocate for retiring as soon as you're financially able. Problem is, what does financially able mean? $200,000 in savings or $2,000,000? With my cancer diagnosis 10 years ago and my daughter passing from cancer in 2020, for me, retiring with minimal savings works. I'd rather have the time than the money. Fortunately, after 7 months of retirement, my bank account is still the same. I am sorry to read about your husband. Sometimes things don't seem fair. Best wishes to you! Buzz
You have such a wonderful way of sharing your story and advice. Feels like I’m having a conversation with a friend, not listening to some guy on TH-cam.
Thank you. I have subscribed because I feel we are similar, I’m 62 and getting ready to retire in March of 25’ . I hadn’t seen your video prior to this, and my deepest condolences to you and your family, and your sharing of your journey is a privilege to share in. May God bless and keep you and all whom you Love.
Sorry to hear about the cancer Buzz , one of my younger brothers back in the homeland (Ireland) is fighting prostate cancer at the moment. He's a year younger than me 62 . Would be really rough to lose a brother. Thanks for the content.
Buzz, thank you for sharing your story. You and your wife have gone through a lot in the past decade. My father was diagnosed with lymphoma (DBLCL - Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma) about 8 years ago now. He survived with an established chemo regimen. However, as you note, chemo and radiation are harsh treatments that damage normal cells while also killing cancer cells. My father suffered some heart damage due to the use of one of his chemo cocktail components (doxorubicin). He remains with us at 87 yo and is in good health overall, but the chemo did take a toll on him physically while also saving his life. You are clearly making very wise choices for you, you wife, and your family.
Glad you're father made it this far. So far my side effects are minimal. Feet feel like bricks and taste buds are permanently shot. Minor compared to what could have been. We all just take it a day at a time and hope that time dulls the pain.
Oh gheesh, so sorry you have had to go through so much, and early 50's is just so young to deal with cancer. So glad you're doing well now. Enjoy your retirement to it's fullest.
I have been going through your series of why you retired. My heart goes out to you on the losss of your daughter. As for deciding when to take ss, i took it at 63, my brother passed away at 65, only 4 years after my dad died at 87. While my dad was dying my brother and i had a talk and he said “nobody knows how long we have, i better get to going on the things i want to do” he died 4 years later. He never took ss, never had a grandchild , life is short so i took it sooner.
Sorry to read of the passing of your brother. With me having cancer 10 years ago I wanted to retire as soon as I could. I know I'm cutting it close financially but as long as we can pay the light bill and keep the refrigerator filled, I think we can make it. I project my year of death at 74 so i have about a decade left. Waiting until FRA or maxing out at 70 years old didn't make much sense to me. Every situation is different though. Thanks for sharing. Buzz
I went on Disability at 57. I have spinal stenosis with damage to a number of discs and both sciatic nerves. I had three laminectomies which scrapes away parts of the spine to relieve pressure on nerves. Still, I am shrinking and now it has spread to my neck. The doctor wants to a spinal fusion which involves putting spacers between the vertebrae. I'm 73 and I'm hesitant because it will incapacitate me for months and healing will take about two years. Disability was approved in two months with no further evaluations. I managed to work some doing paperwork and programming but wasn't earning enough from it so the disability helped a lot. I had prostate cancer 4 years ago. It did not go well. Holes were burned in my large intestine and bladder which then fused at the wound sites. After a month or so of every antibiotic possible with some combined I was given a CAT scan which exposed the problem. Three days later 8 inches of my intestine were removed. The burn on the back of my leg took a year to heal and still is painful. Much damage was done to all the nerves around the prostate and I lost some functions. All the males on my father's side have had prostate cancer so I caught it early with PSA testing. Everyone has eventually died of colon cancer. My last Aunt died 3 weeks ago with it. I am now the oldest person in my entire family. I'm retired finally. I work around the house and yard. I don't push too hard but I stay busy. We saved over the years and are able to live without too much worry about finances. If the worst comes I could always sell a rental house we own or do a reverse mortgage. It would save my son the aggravation of dealing with the house after we are gone.
Good chat. I worked with many people who had zero plan about retiring. They just wanted out of there. I planned, studied, wrote down the reasons for when that day or opportunity might come years in advance. Then it did and it was still a challenge and seemed like it was happening to someone else. I guess its called surreal. Two weeks before I walked out the door for the last time my father passed away. He was not in the best of heath but never the less it was sudden and unexpected. You never know what curve balls life is going to toss at you. Keep it simple, enjoy the moments . Glad your doing well.
Thank you for your comment. I'm glad you did the planning way up front. Sorry about your father. You're right, the curve balls come out of the blue sometimes. Just gotta keep moving forward. Bob
I'm not actually surprised that you got such a positive/loving response to your video as I think that nearly anyone can feel for others in that or other situations that they pray they will never have to face. Also in spite of the negativity that the media and whatever else try to push there are a lot of very good people out there and most will help where they can. We have had a young family member go through a very nasty medical episode recently and the way people just pitched in and helped where they could was heartwarming. Your comment on time is right on the mark imo, it's the one thing that we all have that's not guaranteed but most of us seem to not consider it so it just passes by unnoticed. My view on having money/resources is that they just give you time/choices that you may not have if you don't have them. Good to hear that you're clear and that you got the time to now enjoy your life or live how you choose. Cheers.
Buzz, your content is so compelling and real. I guess that's because you are, too! Keep it up. It's not the number of subscribers you get (and you will get them!) but how you are touching the ones you have.
I totally agree with your decision to retire at 62. I am a cancer survivor too. I also know that feeling when you get the all clear results. I had cat scans every six months for five years looking for cancer. Then ten more years of blood work. They were all negative . I’m 27 years cancer free of ovarian and am grateful for everyday. I feel God has a plan for me and a purpose for my life. It’s a gift. Thank you for your honesty God Bless you and your family.
Thank you for commenting. My daughter passed in 2020 from ovarian cancer. Makes me question why I survived instead of her. I'm not happy about that. Some day I hope to find out all the answers. I'm glad you're doing so well! That journey was not easy. Buzz
So sorry to hear about your daughter. 4 good reasons to retire. About 15 years ago I retired from a technician job after 31 years, but I was also teaching my craft nights at a community college. I loved teaching & the students, but the administration changed went nuts & sucked the life out of everything. I learned I had taught long enough I could retire right then or later if I wanted too. Then my fav nephew died at 18.5 yo unexpectedly. That did it, I retired a 2nd time because as they say, “Life is short!”
I have to tell you I admire people who educate others. They never get the proper credit so thank you! I'm sorry to read about your nephew. So darn young. Glad you made it to retirement! Buzz
Just want to say I enjoy your video I wish you all the best going forward I'm getting close to 63 my job is going to end in May contemplating retiring in good health go to my doctor's hope I have some good time left I stay active golf exercise gym family history is pretty good will start taking social security at 63 1/2 good luck on this journey good health to you thanks for the video
Hi Buzz. Very much enjoy your talk about aging and retirement. Though my reasons were different, I chose to retire at age 58. Now, seven years later, my wife and I can’t believe how fast the time has passed. We really enjoy living life at our own pace and the quality time we can now spend with our kids and grand’s, family and friends. Life is a constant balance of health, finances, etc., but no regrets in our house. Best wishes from you Michigan neighbor.
Thank you for your comment! The time does seem to fly and it's only been four months for me. I'm glad you stopped by and enjoy your 2024. Go Lions!! Buzz
Sorry to hear about your daughter 😢 and you dealing with the Huge C !!! Like you mention tomorrow is not promise!! ❤You made the right decision for your life to retire early!!! I retired at 64 years old , a year later one of my kidneys failed 😢. Receive a new kidney January 7th 2024. I’m still dealing with health issues. So enjoy your retirement to your fullest because tomorrow is not promise!! Take care Buzz!!
Thanks for sharing. I commented on your last video and said that we also lost our 28-year-old daughter in 2022 to brain cancer. Now it seems that we have something else in common… about a year after my daughter’s death, my wife was diagnosed with B cell Lymphoma. Ironically she is an oncology nurse who specializes in blood cancers (lymphoma, multiple myeloma and leukemia) so you could say that “she knows too much”. She has had immunotherapy and is doing well, but there’s always that dark cloud overhead as you approach your next scan. Her next PET is the end of February. We are both 58 but this has been our motivation to move more quickly into retirement or semi-retirement while we can enjoy it. We are people of Faith so that is what sustains us in good times and in the valley. Best of health and retirement to you.
Wow......I feel so bad after reading this. It just doesn't seem fair. There has to be a limit to the pain that we must endure. I pray that your wife gets through this issue. I guess it's good that she's an oncology nurse. There will be no surprises. Hope her spirits are high. When the doctor read me my ultrasound results telling me about the mass on my left side, I had already prepared my mind for the worst so I paused, thought about it, then pulled out my pocket knife and said "let's cut it out right now!". Humor is what got me through it all. Stay in touch please. Buzz
I only recently found your channel, so I just saw this video, and the previous video with your three reasons. I am so sorry for your loss. Your videos... all your videos, not just these two... really connect with me. Even though we have never meant, you feel like a friend. These two videos had me tearing up. Thank you for sharing your pain with us. I touched me deeply, as I'm sure it did all your fans.
I appreciate your kind words. Getting it off my chest to a somewhat anonymous group was healing therapy for me. It was better than keeping it all inside. Buzz
In the later part of my 40s with a few sons... and... I cannot even fathom losing one's own child. They say there is no pain worse. May God bless her soul ... and God speed to you as well.
I am worried about inflation. The fact that they tell us we have 3% inflation. When it's more like twenty percent. that in itself makes me think I dont have enough cash to retire.
Thank you for sharing your story. I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your daughter. Life is not fair and we really don't know how much time we have left. Prayers to you and your family for continued health and prosperity.
Thank you for the kind words. It does change one's life. Never to be the same again. That's life. We're not the only ones. Some go through much worse. Buzz
Thanks for sharing your story. It reminds me of something I heard a while back, ‘we have two lives, the 2nd one begins when we realize we only have one’. I admire your courage and positive attitude.
They just lowered the life expectancy for men from 74 to 73. My dad made it to 86. I would feel lucky if I made it to 75 even though no serious health issues yet (knock on wood) Who knows, we might live longer than we think !!
Thanks for sharing Buzz. I am looking for a date to re-retire (1st time was in 2021 but went back to work in 2022). You’re 100% correct. None of us are promised tomorrow…
I’m sure you’re aware that your little chats are helping many people. Life is great. But as you already know, at times things come along that suddenly disrupt our plans and then attempts to crush our dreams and destroy our happiness. Cancer is a terrible, heartbreaking disease and I’m glad to hear you beat it. I lost my wife young to cancer. She was diagnosed in 2010, three years before our long planned retirement and big move down south to the land of palm trees and sandy beaches. She was however able to enjoy that dream for a short time before she had to go. That was 2015 and I’m still going because that’s what she wanted me to do. Also, sorry to hear about the loss of your daughter. I lost my youngest sister unexpectedly at the age of 29. I saw how that affected my parents and my family. But we went on because we had to. Enjoy your retirement. My advice as a season pro is to take up the hobby of taking care of yourself! Personally I find it great for the body and the mind. Now that we have all this time it can be put to good use focusing on us! We can eat healthier and exercise because there are no excuses of not enough time, a busy work schedule, and other distractions. Stay warm!
I love your kind thoughts and I'm so sorry to read about your wife. That's so hard. We'll keep moving forward and improve whenever we can to make the journey a good one. Take care my friend. Buzz
Buzz, Sad to hear about the loss of your daughter and happy that you are cancer free. I wish you and your wife many decades of happy retirement years! It is time to enjoy life.
I am going back and watching your older videos, and I wish I had found your channel sooner. I watch an assortment of different genre's, cooking, canning, pantry, gardening, frugality, retirement budgeting, and retirement travel. Any that become political or fear mongering, delete. Or a few become constant solicitors, or they just seem fake. Bye. You are a breath of fresh air 😊. I thoroughly enjoy your video's. Oh my lord, I didn't know that you lost your daughter 😳, how horrible. It is an unimaginable loss. I know how devastated my mother was on my sister's sudden passing, unfortunately just 17 days after losing my stepfather. It left a gaping hole in all of our lives, but I know that my mother never recovered from her depression. I want to say that you have an amazing spirit to be such an uplifting joy to others. May you and Mrs. Buzz live a long time filled with love and laughs. Keep up on your follow ups. And do all preventative tests that you can. Get labs, do colonoscopys, get psa for men, mammogram and bone density for women. Be proactive, our country does sick care, not health care. We had to change doctors to find some that do believe in partnership with the patient and truly helping you to take care of your health. We chose retiring early as well, life throws us curve balls. So we go on as optimistically as possible (me ,and I have enough to share with my hubby). Find joy. That is my daily goal. Watching my hummingbirds, seeing mom doe and her fawn in the backyard, eating my weeds, that I keep watering for them, and they drink from the kiddie pool I keep full by my caged(protected ) peach trees. It is the simplest things 😊, oh look a zucchini is starting😊. Have an absolutely amazing day.
You are such a positive person that I find joy in reading your comments. Yes, we are still very much mourning our daughter, but we know here's nothing we can do. That's one reason that I am grateful for every day that I have, and I enjoy all of the little things, like you do, that make our days complete. From feeding the birds to watching a toad make his way through the garden. I'm blessed.
Thanks for sharing. I’m happy you are well and sorry about your loss. I’m 63 and tentatively planning to retire at 65 and take SS at 67. But I keep hearing the same message like you give. Life is unpredictable. In my case, my career is winding down and I want to spend time with my wife who is nearing 70. PS. Your show about astronomy hit me. I was into that big 20 years ago and thinking of getting back into it.
Thank you for commenting. Everyone has different situations and there is no right answer as to when it's time to retire. I think you'll know when the time is right. Yes, get another scope! Let me know what you get when you do. Buzz

Dang. That’s rough. Totally agree with your rationale and I hope you live a long and healthy life. Tough video to make and appreciate you sharing your experience.
I am so sorry for the loss of your daughter. May peace be with you. I, too, was diagnosed with Small B cell lymphoma several years ago in my mid-50s. I was allergic to chemotherapy, but fortunately, I am able to take an immunability capsule daily. It will be for the rest of my life. Fortunately, there are no side effects. I occasionally think of my mortality due to the treatments, and I believe I will be truly blessed to see my mid-70s. I will take my ss at 62 and retire at 60.5 in June 2025. I am only waiting until then to maintain my current health insurance before Medicare at 65. Your comment about family parties hit a strong chord. At one time, both my parents, one of my sisters, a nephew and niece, would be at my Halloween party. They are all gone. I want to spend as much time with the rest of the family and my grandbabies as possible. Though I may miss my job, the family is way more important. By retirement, my bills will be paid, and I will be good financially, so I am not concerned. Thank you for sharing your story.
Thank you for your kind thoughts. I'm glad the capsules are doing what they're supposed to be doing. Our thoughts and perspectives on life seem to be aligned. I wish you well! Stay in touch. Buzz
All your thoughts and logical thinking make good sense. Money/expenses can be managed, but we cannot get time back, and health is a blessing to enjoy as long as we can. Work is trading valuable time for money and in the end no one will really say wish spend more time at work.
Thank you for sharing your story. First time I saw your video. I'm 64 married with 2 married Daughters and 2 Grandsons. I will be retiring in the Fall. Wishing you the best in your retirement.
Thank you for watching! I'm four months into retirement and loving every minute. Enjoy your family and let us know when you officially retire. Have a good 2024. Buzz
I’m sorry for your loss, I can’t imagine. I am 58 and am panicking about. Retirement, it seems there are so many video’s out there about needing a million dollars to retire, I will not reach that in any way. My husband has been on disability since 2009 so I have been the main bread winner and it’s been tough. I live in Canada so we get Canadian pension plan and old age security which do help. You hit the nail on the head, the older I get the more I realize what is important to me, which is spending time with my son and grandchildren and when I travel seeing places I have never seen before. Thanks for making these video’s, take care.
Thank you for commenting! I do have a video, two actually, that show my income versus expenses. My crazy goal was to retire and see if we could make it on Social Security only. Our savings isn't too high so we would use it only for emergency and vacation. The next few months will tell! Best wishes to you! Buzz
I just came across your Retirement garage a few days ago. I did comment on the last video. To lose some close in your family is very hard to deal with moving forward. To lose a daughter has to be very tuff. In my 74 years of living the one that is a constant. There are no guarantees. So enjoy every day.
Buzz, thank you for sharing your personal story. That terrible disease has taken so many from all of us. Prayers that you never have to face it again, yourself nor one of your family. Your strength and resolve is certainly an inspiration.
Thank you for the honesty. I've had several friends and family around my age pass in the last year. Both my grandfathers and my dad all passed in their early 60's. I'm in good health, so I want out of the factory before I get too much older. My Fidelity guy says I can financially do it, so I'm retiring when I turn 62 in 2 years. It's cold too, here in the Dayton area....
Thank you for your comment. I'm glad you're talking to an advisor and using their recommendations as part of your retirement strategy. You'll be thinking more and more about retirement over the next two years. Good luck! Bob
Buzz your genuine ability to put yourself out here and to share your heart is so wonderful, your talks with us have meant a lot to me as I have similar situations and story's. I want to tell you how wonderful it is that you made it thru the cancer and came out the other side and to want to go live your life and not to be a slave to the grind any longer. You are an amazing man, and I am so glad to be able to view your videos. Congratulations on the growth of the channel. I hope you continue to share your retirement with us for a long while : ) Be well and God bless!
Awww you must be one of my family members! Regardless, thank you for your kind words! I really do appreciate it. Feel free to tell me what content you'd like to see. Buzz
Buzz, I appreciate your heartfelt thoughts and comments. Your message is an important one. We never know what tomorrow will bring. Thank you for your openness.
Thank you for sharing! My wife is a breast cancer survivor, she's doing well. I think the only thing that we can do is to keep following it up. Try to catch it in earlier stage. Enjoy your retirement, doing what you love, fishing, working on your hobbies, searching the wonders of the world.
Hey Buzz, my hats off to you to share something personal like this which can help so many other people. Glad you’re cancer free 10 years later free …congratulations. My mother-in-law had Carsonoid cancer and she lived to be 96 1/2.
Thanks for sharing, sorry to hear of your daughter passing, GodBless you.
I have low grade prostrate cancer, I’m retiring at 64. Time to live!
Thank you for your kind comment. I hope you heal quickly. Time to live is right! Buzz
Buzz
My wife has had cancer in 2007, 2015 & 2023 and she is still with me. She is 77 and still going strong.
Excellent! Love reading this. I know you're a great caregiver too! Good luck my friend!
That's a sad story to read but it does happen. On the other hand, my wife's father passed last December at 96. You just never know. Buzz
God bless you. Prayers for you and your family. What courage and grace. Truly an inspiration. My hubby has survived 2major heart attacks. He has continued to work in a labor intensive industry. He is retiring next year when he turns 62 Lord willing and take his SS.
Thank you for your kind words! Glad to read that your husband will be retiring soon. Both of you stay in good health! Buzz
🙏. Buzz
I'm sorry for both your guys losses. I don't have kids myself but I cant imagine how hard it must be! God Bless you both!
Sorry for such a loss. Not funny. My brother is dead 38 yrs now. Sadness doesnt really get better but life sure moves on
I'm so sorry to both of you. it's so hard to lose a child, my mother lost a son who was 26. it was very difficult for her. 🤍
I'm so sorry for the loss of your daughters
When we got the results of my first post treatment PET scan, we cried. Dr said I had no detectable cancer from my eyes to my thighs. Like you said there is no feeling like it. My wife and I just held each other, cried and thanked the Lord. Thank you for sharing.
You know that feeling! Congratulations on getting through everything! Have a great 2024. Buzz
You’re a good man Buzz. Condolences to you and your wife. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! It’s hard, but I’m glad my wife and I can help each other through it.
Congratulations on beating COVID! Looks like things are going your way. Have a good 2024. Buzz
Hey Buzz. You are what I want from youtube. A real guy speaking his heart. I’m 18 years behind ya, but we speak the same language. I hope you continue to have a good time in retirement and keep talking to us, brother.
Thank you for commenting and I appreciate your kind words. Have a good 2024! Buzz
Congratulations on your long-term survivorship!
Thank you. Feeling good! Being stree free in retirement helps a lot too. Bob
Buzz, your sincerity and humanity really shines through here. I think your retirement was a good call. You can be more active and really take better care of yourself.
Thank you. Now I just have to keep my butt off the couch! Lol. Buzz
Thanks for sharing. I just learned one hour ago that another friend passed today with cancer. Just retired at 65. Dennis
Sorry to have to read that. You just never know do you? Hope you're doing well. Buzz
Glad you made it through. Congratulations on your retirement. Bob
Good. Keep. It. Up
Thanks for sharing your story.
That's right. No promise of tomorrow. Enjoy while you can!
And you don't have to work until 70 to collect at 70 and get the max.
I admire your resilience and courage to face such life’s challenges and keep enjoying your life as it throws at you.🌹🙏
Good for you Buzz!
Life is certainly strange but getting out of the grind early is a good thing in my opinion. I do feel like a hobo sometimes but I'm ok with that! Lol
Buzz, I'm so sorry for your loss. :-( It's nice that you have so much love and support from your subscribers. Your videos help so many people.
Thank you for the kind words. Maybe everything is meant to be.
Im mid-40’s, plan to retire@ 65 unless I encounter similar situations as you.
If either my or my loved ones encounter life changing events Ill adjust accordingly.
Until then Im waiting to find that BIG payday $$$ thatll let me retire tomorrow!!!

Good luck on your future retirement! Buzz
Cheers.
Thank you for watching and subscribing! I appreciate your kind words. Let us know when you get to the sweet years of retirement! Buzz
So very sorry to learn of your daughter’s passing. And cancer. Thank you for sharing to help others.
Thank you. I appreciate your kind words.
Buzz
Fully understand your decision to retire when you did. I think most of us would've done the same. Good luck and stay healthy.
Thank you. You never know how many sunrises you're blessed with. Have a good 2024. Bob
I'm sorry for your experience, hope you live a long time
That makes two of us!
He lived 18 months after his diagnosis.😢 he’s been gone seven years next month😢
Go and enjoy your time that you worked so hard for.👍
Thank you for commenting.
Thank you for watching and understanding me. Buzz
Worked 45 yrs. Took my 5 weeks vacation at the start of the yr, retired and never went back. Didn’t want the hoopla of shaking hands and eating cake.
Yep. I left a day early. Didn't want to deal with it. Were they disappointed? Sorry. We're on Buzz time now. Lol
Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate you subscribing!
Sorry to hear about the cancer Buzz , one of my younger brothers back in the homeland (Ireland) is fighting prostate cancer at the moment. He's a year younger than me 62 . Would be really rough to lose a brother. Thanks for the content.
Sorry to read about your brother. I'm hoping he gets through it! Bob
Thank you so much! Bob
Buzz
Buzz - thanks for sharing - your story touched me.
Thank you for watching. I appreciate you being here. Buzz
I retired 2 years ago will be 65 march never looked back my wife had cancer in 2014 her sister had the cancer you had last fall. Both doing fine.
Congratulations on your retirement. I smiled reading that your wife and sister in law are doing fine! Have a good 2024.
You've really gone through some traumatic experiences. But you did make it to 73 already so that's a blessing. Good luck my friend. Buzz
Bob
My Grand Mother died of Ovarian cancer, Step Father from stomach cancer.......Cancer is a horrible disease!
Yes, it doesn't discriminate.
Cheers.
Very good comment. I hope you're family member gets through whatever the issue is. Have a good 2024. Bob
@@BuzzRetirementGarage Thank you.
Thanks for sharing those personal reasons. I agree, people need to enjoy life as much as possible, as early as possible. Tomorrow isn't promised.
Buzz, your content is so compelling and real. I guess that's because you are, too! Keep it up. It's not the number of subscribers you get (and you will get them!) but how you are touching the ones you have.
I appreciate your kind words. Buzz
A very touching video, thanks for sharing
Buzz
Just want to say I enjoy your video I wish you all the best going forward I'm getting close to 63 my job is going to end in May contemplating retiring in good health go to my doctor's hope I have some good time left I stay active golf exercise gym family history is pretty good will start taking social security at 63 1/2 good luck on this journey good health to you thanks for the video
wow,, not sure I have the words to repair your loss,,, keep on the best memories and ask for an extra day of love from above to share,,,
Thank you for the kind words. Buzz
Go Lions!! Buzz
So sorry you lost your daughter. I can't even imagine how painful that was for you.😢
Thank you! The passage of time has helped us heal.
Buzz
Excellent reason ❤
One of many but for sure a big reason. Bob
Thank you for your kind words. Time doesn't fully heal but it certainly dulls the pain. Buzz
look man u do u i completly get it i got a great financial advisor and me and him are working toward a 62 63 retirement
Good move! When they tell you go, you go! Buzz
Good for you …..everyone has to make the decisions that apply to their situation. I am making 2024 my final work year for a couple of similar reasons.
Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! You're going to love it! Have a great 2024! Buzz
Well said. Makes me think how lucky I am. We each have to do what's right for us. Thank you. ❤ Oh, -2° with lots of snow here.
We certainly need to be thankful for what we have. Stay warm my friend! Bob
Thanks for sharing Buzz. You’re an encouragement
Thank you for watching. I appreciate you. Buzz
I am worried about inflation. The fact that they tell us we have 3% inflation. When it's more like twenty percent. that in itself makes me think I dont have enough cash to retire.
Well, inflation will always be there in some form. Can't let that stop you from living the retirement dream! Buzz
I am so sorry about your daughter. It is a loss that changes things forever.
Thank you!
Buzz
Gracias por compartir. Saludos desde Madrid
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for sharing your story. It reminds me of something I heard a while back, ‘we have two lives, the 2nd one begins when we realize we only have one’. I admire your courage and positive attitude.
Love that saying! Buzz
Thanks for the quote...I will need to keep this at the forefront of my mind until that 2nd amazing life kicks in....love it!
They just lowered the life expectancy for men from 74 to 73. My dad made it to 86.
I would feel lucky if I made it to 75 even though no serious health issues yet (knock on wood)
Who knows, we might live longer than we think !!
Elon has the brain chip now. Soon we won't need bodies? Crazy. Buzz
Thank you for sharing. ❤
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing Buzz. I am looking for a date to re-retire (1st time was in 2021 but went back to work in 2022). You’re 100% correct. None of us are promised tomorrow…
Let us know when you retire again. Buzz
At this time we don’t have answers to our questions, but maybe God has chosen to heal you so you can inspire others thru your experiences.
Someday I'll find out why things happen. Have a good 2024. Bob
I am a man from Spain, I had the same type of lymphoma at 53 y.o. now I am 57.
I'm glad to read that you overcame! I wish you well in 2024. Buzz
Buzz
I love watching your videos. You are very inspiring to listen to and have a great outlook on life and aging. All the best to you and your wife!
Thank you for watching! I appreciate you. I'm doing what I can to amuse myself. Lol. Buzz
You are going to help so many people with this video. Thanks for sharing.❤
Thank you for watching it. Buzz
Buzz, Sad to hear about the loss of your daughter and happy that you are cancer free. I wish you and your wife many decades of happy retirement years! It is time to enjoy life.
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words. Buzz
Thank for sharing such person details, I hope you live a long healthy life going forward.
Me too! Lol
Fantastic reasons Buzz……..yes I retired @591/2..………still working part time to keep active but love every minute of it. 🌵❤️
Congratulations to you on your retirement! Working part time surely isn't a bad thing. I'm still contemplating it. We'll see. Enjoy 2024! Buzz
Buzz

You're a good man Buzz! 👍
Thank you for watching! Buzz
Dang. That’s rough. Totally agree with your rationale and I hope you live a long and healthy life. Tough video to make and appreciate you sharing your experience.
Thank you, my friend. Buzz
What a great channel . I love honesty ….
Thank you! Buzz
Your words are wise. Everyone's situation is different but retire as soon as your able. Buzz
Very glad for you and we all know it's not if it is when
That's right. I have a year of retirement under my belt so I'm lucky that I got a taste of freedom. Buzz
Buzz
Thanks for sharing, all the best from Canada.
Thank you! Hope you're doing well up North. Buzz
I just came across your Retirement garage a few days ago. I did comment on the last video. To lose some close in your family is very hard to deal with moving forward. To lose a daughter has to be very tuff. In my 74 years of living the one that is a constant. There are no guarantees. So enjoy every day.
Thank you for your kind comment. Just keep moving forward. Buzz
Buzz, thank you for sharing your personal story. That terrible disease has taken so many from all of us. Prayers that you never have to face it again, yourself nor one of your family. Your strength and resolve is certainly an inspiration.
Thank you for your kind words.
Buzz
Weather in Australia is just fine so long as you don't live in Queensland, land of excess rain and too hot! Thanks for sharing retirement thoughts.
No big snows or freezing temps? Lucky you!
I'm glad to hear you are healthy, retired and enjoying everyday! We love your videos.
Thank you for watching! I appreciate your kind words. Buzz
Thank you!
Buzz, I appreciate your heartfelt thoughts and comments. Your message is an important one. We never know what tomorrow will bring. Thank you for your openness.
Thanks for checking in out. Sometimes I wear my heart on my sleeve as they say. Buzz
Love the bookshelves. Glad to hear you're doing well!
Thank you! Made them myself and I'm no carpenter! Lol. Buzz
Thank you for sharing! My wife is a breast cancer survivor, she's doing well. I think the only thing that we can do is to keep following it up. Try to catch it in earlier stage.
Enjoy your retirement, doing what you love, fishing, working on your hobbies, searching the wonders of the world.
Thank you. Glad to read that your wife is doing well. Four months into retirement and so far, so good! Buzz
Buss, good afternoon sir!
Thank you for sharing your story, take care and stay warm.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers! Jack
Sometimes you have to love spell check Buzz!
I've been called worse. Buzz
Thanks my friend!
Hey Buzz, my hats off to you to share something personal like this which can help so many other people. Glad you’re cancer free 10 years later free …congratulations. My mother-in-law had Carsonoid cancer and she lived to be 96 1/2.
Thank you for your comment. My father in law just passed in December at 96. They both must have been doing something right! Buzz
