    Enjoyed your video, very professionally done. Never seen air layering before and needed to know. Thanks for sharing.

    My neighbour in Vancouver was air layering 30 years ago and his whole yard was full. I still have some 20 year old figs with me in Victoria.

    Very nice presentation. Question : could I do this at end of dormancy? B t way: new zipties on the market you can UNDO so you dont have yo throw them away.

      Anytime from may to august. You will need two to three months of roots

    Can you do this with an avocado tree

    I bend the lower shoots over and weigh them down with a log or brick, mulch, and wait until fall. Works every time.

    Great video, can you put a airlayer in the garage for winter dormancy zone 6B?

    • @bcfigfarmfruitorchard5079
      @bcfigfarmfruitorchard5079  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am experimenting with that right now. I cut the air layer a week before the first frost, put it in a five gallon container with miracle grow topsoil and I am keeping it in my garage above 50 degrees all winter. We will see how and if it comes back and grows in the spring.
      I will keep you updated..

      I’m thinking of purchasing air layer figs , I don’t know if I should put them in the garage outside temps reach 15 degrees or in the basement above 62 degrees

    Great system. What’s the best time for air layers?

  • @CaKiteboarding
    @CaKiteboarding ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you ever water or wet the air layer or just the initial first time? Just wondering if it might dry off.

    • @bcfigfarmfruitorchard5079
      @bcfigfarmfruitorchard5079  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I make sure the air layer is slightly wet through the whole process. If the roots dry out or are too wet, the air layer will not take and die

  • @Maugwa
    @Maugwa 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Completely cover the cup and make it air tight. There is no need to "check" on the air layering to make sure the soil remains moist. When completely enclosed (platic wrap/grocery bag) it will stay moist throughout the rooting process.

      Its surprised me the cups are open , what happens when it rains, i have just done mine , air tight thats what ive been told.

    You don't actually need rooting hormones. It'll root fine without it. Also dirt has bacteria. Please use soil or compost or a mix of compost and sphagnum moss.
