- When BMW debuted the X6M in 2008 they called it a Sports Activity Coupe (SAC). This was a different designation than the X5, as the X6 had the sloping roof we see so frequently today. Utility was out, Activity was in, with Activity apparently being German for "less cargo space", or perhaps "carrying friends and family along at ridiculous speeds."
Jump ahead a few years to 2015 and they built the car you see before you, the F16 X6, which was built from 2015-2019. It's like a monolith of excess: big, heavy, powerful, and with less room than its relative, the X5, it's less useful. It weighs over 5,000lbs, and gets 19MPG on a good day. But I must admit, it has a presence on the road akin to a Grizzly bear.

The X6M is a wonderfully weird and beautiful whip. It’s flexing an odd beefy yet sleek style that just works. I’d love to add one to my little fleet one day.

The x6 is for people that want an SUV that looks like a sedan but has SUV properties, that being said the x5 looks so much better imo.
At least it's quick so the public don't have to look at it for long.

Agreed, you can't even touch 700 HP on the S63TU motor without a stage 2 tune and stage 2 = tune + downpipes. This is just a stage 1 flash, probably more like 630 hp.

Dont get me wrong, but sporty-suv drivers are the worst predators on the city streets.

In Canada I get an opposite experience. They are mostly driven by mom's or older fellas. And they often drive pretty tamed. A lot more tamed than you're typical civic
The "bad drivers" seem to rotate cars over the years, and it varies area-by-area. For the last few years, it's been late-model Jeep Wranglers that have been the most consistent "bad/aggressive" driver cars in my area for whatever reason...

Previous owner of a E70 X5M here, have driven an E71 X6. Currently own a E53 4.8IS. I do not get the liftback SUV craze. Merc, BMW, Jap, don't care. Just... why? Cool body lines I guess? but its a lifted sport sedan. Buy an M5. The X5 I get, so much so I bought another, older X5 (another topic entirely, BMW purist BS topic). The S63b44 platform is a RIDICULOUSLY quick family hauler, or in my case an absolutely wicked ski/winter rig. The liftback SUV body style removes all that practicality from the equation, without removing any of the weight. I really just don't get the X4/X6. Sincerely a BMW fanboy.
Next on my acquisition list is a turbo E30, an E39, and an E36 M3. take that for what you will. BMW lost its way around the 2007 era.

I've always liked the way these cars look, I liked the first gen more; I like funky cars (I called the first gen X6 M an "atomic dune buggy".) I also love the Z3 Coupe, for instance. But beyond the overall look of the thing, the car is so dumb and impractical and heavy and unreliable (V8s, at least) that there is no rational, or even compelling irrational, argument for this car. I do think it looks cool. But I think everything else about it is a depressing reflection on its owner's taste.

The X6 M has grown on me over the years.. Sick car man. Great for up here in Canada.
I had an X5M from the same generation with similar mods. It was a whole lot of fun. Something that big should not be able to move like that. A big SUV running 11’s in the quarter and mid 3’s for 0-60 is just silly.

Ash B the most brutal vehicle on the market? It doesn’t even come to mind in the top 50. It’s a rolley polley SUV with a big donkey in the front and a big fancy interior. Nothing brutal about it except the power, which is outclassed by many other cars. If you want to get to the shops with the kids in the back, load up a weeks shop and get home in record time, I’m sure it’s hard to pick anything better. If you actually want to go for a blast in the twisties? No chance. This car is the definition of a compromise.

This X6M and any other X6 and X4 series might quite possibly be the most pointless cars ever created (the same applies to Mercedes counterparts).
I feel the same way but the X6 continues to sell very well. I think BMW needs to quash the X4 and X2 and for the life of me I don't get the appeal of the X6 when the X5 is far more practical while being as athletic on the roads and twisties as possible.
I think a large enough majority find the design attractive. Definitely wouldn’t mind owning one. Most people who dislike these “coupe” suvs are car enthusiasts. Car enthusiasts don’t own the market lol.

Very fast car, ut why people buy SUV's and lower them, it almost becomes a little bit more "off-road' capable then a car, but you still don't get the corner ability of the car, a M5 in this case. I didn't understand , if he can make it lower or higher, then it makes sense. You lower it stable on a good paved flat surface, you lift it on a trail, or snow uphill, so it doesn't drag the belly in the snow, this is why you get a SUV- not a real off-roader, just a car that can pass though some trail, snow, mud, AWD, seats fall down, similar to a wagon.
So many people hating on this m6 and I bet none of them can even afford to sit in one 😂😂. I plan on getting an x5 soon but might take a look at a 6 🤔. Most people if not all who comment prolly drive a honda or toyota that's under $5000.

If you really like SUVs then that's fine but don't use your kids as an excuse to buy an SUV. More ground clearance means more likely to rollover. Rollovers are the most common fatal crash. Your kids safety is supposed to come first.

This is one of the few cars you couldn't pay me to drive, stock or otherwise. I daily a 3-series, so I'm no BMW hater, but this the rear shape and overall profile are (in my opinion) the most hideous thing in modern automotive design. Such a shame that Mercedes does this too. Between these slump-assed SACs of sad aesthetics and crossover proliferation everywhere, the days of Bangle-butt don't seem so bad. (EDIT) I still appreciate the video (and clicked like), and support the buyer's right to his own taste. Just because I'd hate the car doesn't mean this isn't the right solution for him.

When I was shooting the beauty shots a sheriff truck went by (full of shovels and tools, strangely. I later learned it was to deal with illegal grow ops). Then we got followed by a cop for 15 minutes, about 5 minutes into the drive. I cut that part out because it was very dull, but after that, I was a bit shy about speeding on that road. ZK

Well not to me, maybe impressive like watching a pig running like a cheetah on a straight line definitely not fascinating though. Super sterilized plump cornering and lousy economy on the gas giving the illusion of safety to the average soccer mom. If practicality is the objective I'd go for a fast estate/s/w car.
I think they're interesting, not the greatest thing ever. I find our love of them ("our" meaning the popularity of them) strange but fascinating. I would rather drive a car for all the reasons. But SUVs have tapped into something in the human psyche. The high seating position probably reminds of us of sitting in a tree, or a guard tower. Every species (that has eyes) understands that the higher your eyes are, the further you can see. Meerkats stand on their hind legs, humans tilt our heads back slightly, giraffes....giraffe. The fast SUV makes us feel powerful, formidable, in command of our surroundings. Literally above others, but also able to keep up with the fast cars. I wouldn't buy one, but their performance can make you giggle, and it's clear that a lot of people like them. ZK
@@TheSmokingTire I understand your point, I also understand the appeal fast SUVs have to some people. SUVs have come a long way since they were first introduced, especially when it comes to my main concerns (and one of my personal nightmares for many weeks) the sudden lane change and how you keep all this mass from rolling over. It's just still in my mind that I have the picture that when I'm sitting higher in a vehicle with an already high center of mass that I'm a lot more cautious. I don't know to me that feeling somehow compares to driving a fast car on a slippery surface or wet/dump conditions. I know wider tires solve a lot of those problems for 99.9% of the situations and honestly some of the fast SUVs grip pretty well, it's just the lack of confidence that is not derived from the lack of my skills as a driver but mainly from the lack of confidence the vehicle might inspire, and as a car guy you'd like to feel confident when you drive your personal vehicle whether it's for pleasure or just to keep you, your passengers and the vehicle safe.

X5 does not stand out my dude. It’s just a practical Mid sized SUV. Nothing wrong with it. It’s just meh while driving down the street. The X6/X6M has that eye catching youthful look while being an SUV. Bottom line is that the X5 is the cute down home girl that gets her fair share of men and the X6 is the super hot sister that everyone wants even guys like you that would say you don’t like models! The thing that I like about performance SUVs is that 0-60 and cornering might be hindered but they will perform those numbers in an array of conditions.
With all the technology that can jekyl n Hyde a drivetrain today I actually think it makes more sense all around to purchase a performance SUV if you can’t afford multiple vehicles.
