He played that guitar backwards, upside-down, over his head, behind his back, inverted, with his teeth, and on fire. The original guitar hero. Too good!!
He is playing with his guitar upside down. However, its modified. Jimi would re-string the guitars so the order of the strings were as normal. Nevertheless.... he is arguably the best rock guitarist.
I see the girl's impressed. Hendrix is a virtuoso guitarist who came up with a new unheard of way of playing. No one had ever heard a guitar played like that before.

This video was pulled from his recorded performance at the Monterrey Pop Festival in 1967. Jimi really showed out that night and gave a legendary performance that culminated in him setting his guitar on fire after the song "Wild Thing." The story goes that Jimi had been arguing backstage with members of The Who about who would go out first. They both wanted to close the show that night. After arguing for a few minutes, so the story goes, Jimi stood up on a chair and played his guitar for a minute, then said to Pete Townsend, "OK then, follow THIS!" He then proceeded to give a performance that left the audience slack jawed, and made the Who wish they had never heard of Jimi Hendrix.
I believe the Grateful Dead was sandwiched between The Who & Jimi Hendrix 🤔
I only got to see Jimi twice - 1968 and 1970. Yes he did play behind his neck and with his teeth. Such a loss for him to die at 27.
That is so crazy at 27. I hear that a lot of good talented people die at 27. Imagine how much greater he would of been of he never died that young.

Yeah, back then, music was about talent. Now a days is just trash. Now, anyone can make a song in a computer back then it was way harder. That's why I got more respect for musicians of back in the day than now.
He's actually singing an old folk or blues song, and it's a warning about jealousy and the consequences of his actions.
I was lucky enough to see Jimi Hendrix twice (in 1968 and 1969). At the the second show in ‘69 at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston, Jimi ran on stage wearing a black silk bodysuit with silver sequins running down his shirtsleeves and pant legs and a black headband. We could only stare at the epitome of cool before our very eyes. Of course, he just tore the stage down.
I don’t remember what he was wearing at the 1st show.

Tell your son that I saw hendrix play the guitar with his teeth in a concert in Toronto back in 1969 when I was 17. He learned that trick and also playing the guitar behind his head from old Mississippi delta blues guitarists.

This is the only Jimi Hendrix song I watch. It’s incredible. I watch other versions of his also. I preferred blues when Jimi Hendrix was popular but I didn’t know he came from blues. I would have been more interested. He was famous when I was 14 in 1968.
His fans near me were young pimply boys age 13. They stayed in their bedrooms all day and night reading his album playing the record over and over and had a black light on his posters on their walls. I’m sure they snuck weed if they could. They were not my idea of cool at all. I’m sure they’re cool old guys now.
The lyrics are about domestic violence murder and when I heard it on the radio in 1968 I thought it was about the Vietnam war (because of the name Joe and because a lot of songs were about the Vietnam war back then). It took watching TH-cam decades later for me to see the lyrics.
If anyone wants to be cool, they need to study Jimi Hendrix. He was the epitome of cool.

It's funny that your son had that reaction, that was my reaction too when I was 12! I looked at that and said, No way! That's impossible, and I walked away. Come to find out years later when I was 18, that it was real, was shocking to me. I had the same look on my face too. Reality is a hard mistress. It isn't Hendrix's antics, it's his courage to do this with 100,000 people watching him.
it was eye opening seeing your son's reaction to the all time best guitar player of all time. It shows me that everybody doesn't love Jimi Hendrix. A big shock but hey, everybody is entitled to their opinions. As for me, this was one of Jimi''s best. Check out Little Wing. That should blow you away!

When it comes to the electric guitar there is Pre Jimi Hendrix and Post Jimi Hendrix, he changed to way people listen and played the guitar, no other guitar artist is even in the Building. One of the few guitarists ever who could play rhythm, lead, sing on top of it and do acrobatics on stage. 1. He was incredibly creative 2. His technique was superb 3. He was a great songwriter 4. He was a great singer 5. He was a great frontman. He didn’t need to play fast alternate picking runs or sweep picking or tapping tricks , he was above that. No one even comes close to him He invented a whole new style of playing. He by himself changed the way people thought about the electric guitar. He singlehandedly redefined the musical vocabulary of the electric guitar and changed music forever. When Jimi hit the scene people were hearing noises they had never heard from a guitar.
I love the girl's shocked reaction to the line "I'm going to shoot my old lady cause i caught her with another man." Her reaction was perfect-WTF?
As crazy as this performance was this is not his best performance. At least musically. Showmanship wise, this is one of his best but musically there's nowhere near the best. I would recommend Machine Gun at Fillmore East but the kids have to have a certain understanding about life in order to really appreciate that song. I would recommend you play the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock for them. Even that would take a certain level of maturity to appreciate but they should rock with that. Great reaction!

Jimi was plucking the strings with his teeth, during the first lead guitar part. He has also done this with his tongue occasionally, but it's always hard to see exactly what he's doing on these old videos. This video was his teeth only during the 1st lead. He's just trying to be entertaining, while playing. This was his 1st big gig in America and he wanted to make a big impression.
As a guitarist, I can assure you that NO ONE plays guitar with their teeth. It’s a trick. (Google ‘hammer on’ and ‘pull off’.)

Jimi could play guitar with his teeth, over his head, behind his back, and between his legs. How do I know? Seen Jimi live on more than one occasion. Jimi did not like Hey Joe much, but it was the first song that put him on the map......and that's why he is chewing gum while he is performing it. You think that this song is tame? Ok, try Jimi Hendrix Johnny B Goode, Berkeley. This will show you what this man was capable of. And remember, no fantastic guitars and fancy guitar effects back then.....Jimi played his songs on a standard stratocaster guitar turned upside down and strung to play left handed, which means the stringing arrangement was reversed too. After that try The Watchtower and Purple Haze. This man was a genius. Prince and SRV? Jimi was far ahead of them, and playing their stuff twenty years before they even came onto the scene.
That Johnny B Goode version is definitely top 5 favorite he does. Way better than hey joe. Hey joe is kinda boring once you hear it about a dozen times
@@Banzo_ Jimi thought that too. In fact he was pretty bored with playing all The Experience songs. At the time of his death Jimi was aiming to go back with Chas Chandler and start into making a futuristic spaceship style of music, and music for children.

I saw him in 1968 in St. Louis, I was maybe 15-20 feet from the stage. I was 15 and 70 now. You have to watch Stevie Ray Vaughn, I suggest Texas Flood, Voodoo Chile and Mary Had A Little Lamb Live for the kids. Jim

If you want to react to Led Zeppelin, stairway to heaven is their most famous song, but there is also dazed and confused, whole lotta love, heartbreaker, ramble on, Immigrant song, since I’ve been loving you, rock and roll, black dog, going to California, when the levee breaks, the song remains the same/rain song, no quarter, in my time of dying, trampled underfoot, Kashmir, nobody’s fault but mine, and Achilles last stand. It’s usually a good idea to listen to their studio recorded version first before watching their live version, because the band like to improvise on their live version, so many times, their live version would be very different than their studio album version. If you have time, I would suggest doing all their albums in order from their first to their last. Led Zeppelin, along with Pink Floyd, are some of the only bands that recorded their albums to be listened to in their entirety. Also, you get to see how the bands’ song writing and arrangements continued to improve and change from album to album. Enjoy!

You commented in Santana at Woodstock that the drummer, the brilliant Mike Shrieve was high on LSD. He was 18 years old and stone cold sober. In this Hendricks video Jimi was most probably high (he died from drug overdose) and used a lot of tricks during his playing. Your assessments are so far off the mark.
That is okay. Is my reaction to things. If I'm wrong, then I guess I'm wrong. The dude clearly looked high as a kite. So I'm going to assume he is high. Plus, it was the 60s at a music festival almost everyone was high.

They aren't my kids. They are my siblings. Also, I'm doing this for fun. I'm not making any money from any of this. The whole point of this is to react to music for the first time. I can't do my homework about a song that was recommended by a viewer to react to it for the first time. These are natural reactions to something we see for the first time in our life.

With the "music" kids are exposed to today........95% of which is absolute garbage, it's difficult to expect them to recognize actual music.
I think that a band you would really enjoy, maybe even your son, who did seem a bit distracted is a band called The Warning. They are a three piece band of siblings from Monterrey who play old style rock but are new, fresh and oh so freaking good. You could try a song like "Animosity" live from Teatro Metropolitan or something a little different, the official video for "More" I think you'll find in this band something you can all enjoy, enthusiastically, I believe.

Is a hit and miss for all artists. We notice some people get mad when we say a certain songs are not that good, but some are.

I don't know a Damn thing about playing a Guitar, so in some ways I have no room to talk, but I've been fortunate to have seen live many of the Greatest Guitarists and Bands from the 70s all the way through to 2023. 300+ concerts and counting.

That’s your opinion. Had it not been for Hendrix, SRV would not have played in the same style that he became associated with. Plus, you have to remember that Jimi was only 27 when he died.
