THORNABY STATION on 20th May 1988
Continuing with my archive of video recording between the years of 1986 to 2001 this clip is of Thornaby taken on 20/05/1988. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually. Sit back and enjoy this latest production remembering all those now long gone Locomotive classes and other types of traction. Many thanks for all subscriptions and all of those viewers who have kindly shown an interest in my material.

I believe at this time the Thornaby Depot Manager was Phil Thickett, a true Gentleman and unusually a Railwayman as well. It was his idea for the Kingfisher logo, large number's on the locos [before large numbers became the norm] and the special liveries e.g 37501 British Steel painted in BSC pale blue. He transferred to Heaton Depot for a while as acting Depot Manager, I think everybody respected him as he called a Spade a Spade, didn't suffer fools but would support his staff if needed, I don't think he was too popular with "Higher Management" I respected him greatly.

What camera did you use at the time? My Dad's a fellow trainspotter like you he actually loves watching other people's footage on TH-cam. I've added some of his on my channel.

@@spompey Hi Mark I've been interested for a long time to basically see how todays world looks through a old Camera so I brought a few off eBay uploaded a few too if your interested Nowt 100 is the channel. Back to trains my Dad's coming for breakfast tomorrow so il show him your footage Il let you know his opinion. Him and his late mate in the 80s went to I think Turkey, Germany, Zimbabwe,South Africa,India, Pakistan, Poland, China and Philippines filming steam trains. He said he never mixed his mates footage because everyone has a different take on how they like to film stuff not sure if that's true?
