Maximilien "Max" Roach my mentor, the prince of Jazz drumming, with Elvin Jones and Tony Williams, with his quartet which i was lucky, so lucky to see and hear twice at least with Odeon Pope and Cecil Bridgewater....gosh so much beauty in this jazz . God bess you Max, hope you still play in heaven with Charlie "Yardbird " Parker, and John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie and Bud Powell and Charles Mingus...and so many others so fabulous jazz musicians

Who the hell is "Maximilien"?? What an arse. Get it right. And btw, Mingus and Roach didn't mix well together personally.

It's wonderful to see one of the masters at work, to see and hear his flawless technique with so much detail from one of my old teachers, Mr. Max Roach ...RIP The Drums Also Waltz

While Blakely, Elvin Jones, Jimmy Cobb, and too many others to name, made significant contributions to the music, no one played cleaner and faster than the King Max Roach. He remains the King and Tony Williams the prince!!!!!

Keep rolling these videos. Beautiful recordings. Please list all Artists and their instruments. Jazz is Psychological. It is Intellectual. Jazz is Art at its optimum best.

I love every second of this, but I also have to be honest- me and my mom were watching this slightly tipsy, and when 16:50 hit, we were actually bursting out the sides with laughter and could not stop laughing. It was painfully funny.

Great stuff. The title is misleading yet factually amusing. It's really The Blues Alley, but the manager of the Blues Alley moved to Seattle and started the long running, still happening jazz club called Jazz Alley.

'six bits blues' sounds like 'St-James Infermerary blues' and best version I ever heard. They don't call him the best jazz drummer for nothing

Cecil is a trumpeter's trumpeter. Yet he allows his vulnerability to shine through.
