If you look at this video closely you will notice boots in the stirrups backwards this signifies that the rider gave his life in the service of the calvary, this is done even today for members of the U.S. Black Horse Calvary Units even though they are in tanks or in helicopters.

It's been a long time since I heard this song and I had forgotten how poignant it is. Very good reaction, Fay. Another good selection by Scott. Here's to your next one. 🙏😊💜

Paper Lace are a British pop/rock band, formed in Nottingham, who rose to success in 1974 and during that year had three UK Top 40 hit singles.

Billy now you went and got yourself killed. And you left your fiancee all alone. 😭 Thanks Fay. 🥰 Hats off 🎩 to all military members & first responders who put their lives on the line.

The rules to writing songs in the 1970's were there were no rules. Let's see, Southern Rock, Country, Glam Rock, Soft Rock, Hard Rock, Punk Rock, Disco, Soul, Blues, Heavy Metal, Acid Rock, Focus with Yodel Rock , Motown, and I'm pretty sure this qualifies as Bubble Gum Rock? I'm sure I'm missing some. ❤❤❤❤

Since you like story type of songs you should listen to The Wreck Of The Edmond Fitzgerald. It is a true story about a very large freighter that sunk in the largest of the great lakes in North America. Gordon Lightfoot sings it. He is a Canadian folk singer.

Paper Lace has the first and best version, the american band version was so jarring...
There are a lot of sayings about being a hero. Like some would prefer to be a living coward than a dead hero, others would rather be a hero than a nobody even if it means they die.
Some military people would say things like they need living soldiers, not dead heroes, and they should not take stupid risks.
But basically it seems agreed that heroes usually get that way by being dead doing something that risked their life, whether it be rushing a position to save their fellows, or riding through the enemy forces to call for reinforcements.
Yeah Billy in the song became a hero, but it was no solace for the woman he was going to marry. She would likely remember him with a lot of bitterness that he left her like that, abandoning her to become a hero...
Not like you can be held by a letter saying your love died a hero, neither can you hug it, or start a family with it either...

The songwriters were British, Paper Lace came out with it early in that year, and got to number one on the European Charts. Bo Donadlson and the Heywoods released their version months later at the tail end of that year.
So the original version was Paper Lace, Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods just purchased the rights to make their own version of the song...

Nope, it's the other way around actually - and this version is far better anyway 😉
