Nice calming voice to hear after raging at my alternator bolts for hours.

I remember the first time I did this, it took 10 hours. At that time I didn't think to remove it through the wheel well! Thanks for watching!

Just did mines in my 98 contour svt. It's a tight squeeze but I got it done in 30 minutes. 👍

I can't get the wheel well liner out in 30 minutes!

Not looking forward to doing this on my SVT. While I’m in there, may as well replace the crank seal and oil pan gasket.

Great video, it helped me a lot. The contour I am working on also has a thin black wire with an eyelet on it. Been months since I took it apart and I can't remember if this black wire is a ground or a power. Did you recall if that wire is ground or power? Thanks for the help!

I'm glad that my video was helpful however I do not have a wire like yours so I don't have any information regarding your wiring.

Had a 2000 cougar, imagine replacing the alternator with all this work and then finding out that wasn't the problem but it was the ANL fuse in front of the firewall. Worst project I have ever done in my life.

I'm trying to get the alternator out of a 98 Ford contour 2.0L and hear it's easier..I got the top alternator bolt out and the bottom one loosened. Trying to just pry it out. It wiggles but won't come out

That 4 cyl. layout is so different than the V6, I couldn't guess. Does it look corroded? Maybe spray some penetrating oil in there?

@@davidgpo it was corroded. I got it out I took a break and came back with a heavy hammer and persuaded it to move a little more

Don't forget to put anti seize on the new bolt.

Thanks! I am my worst enemy! Be careful with that small wire connector, it's easy to break it. Best of luck!

@@davidgpo update: just removed all damned bolts, and completely loose alternator from the vehicle, without removing exhaust pipe or anything. Every thing has to be accessed only by touching and feeling. A blind man could do this job much better. But I don't have special tool to remove tie rod end, in order to get it out of wheel hole. By now I am waiting for the removal tool and new alternator. I was thinking under the vehicle that the genius ford engineer might be already killed by some angry dude. The installation should be another hard fight. Thanks for the great video. It leads the way.

Wow, I don't know how you can get the alternator out without removing the exhaust pipe! You don't need a tie rod end tool. Just hit the knuckle with a heavy hammer and the tie rod will loosen free. Make sure your don't hit the tie rod nor the threaded portion of the tie rod end. You're right about the engineer, cram 10 pounds of poop in a 5 pound bag!

@@davidgpo you are right, the heavy hammer did the trick. But it's little bit risky. I remember I smashed the thread of tie rod years ago. For removing the bolt, I just probe here and there in different directions through the small gaps among all those craps with a small flashlight. Ford official service manual said so exactly (only remove tie rod and nothing else). Super duper tricky job. Ford engineers always have very high expectation on their mechanics. This car had bad valve cover gasket so it's pretty nasty underneath.
