I have listened to the commentary and read the comments but feel that we have missed an important lesson. these men left home, family to embark on a long, expensive and possibly dangerous journey....why.... to worship the Christ child. they brought gifts fit for a king. and after they left Herod, and saw the star again, they rejoiced. Makes me think about our comfort zone (and mine too)....Some of us will not go across town to worship, we will not share our finances to worship or fall down to worship the Child. Makes me think.

My best reading on these men were that they were very educated for their time, that they studied much more than just astrology, and that they had good communication with each other. Otherwise seeing that they lived in separate lands, how did they manage to see the sign, assemble together and travel together for this fortuitous event?

The Magi would very likely have had the book of Daniel, so would have known when to look as well,
“Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing.
Work this one out for yourselves, it is correct to they year of the birth of Christ, the Anointed One.

While in Babylon, because of his ability to interpret dreams and prophecy, Daniel was appointed as leader of those Magii.

Three men coming across the desert are in danger of bandits, horrific dust storms and wild animals, they would have a hard time. At some point they would have been alone because they had to meet with each other or take the entire trip alone. They would have needed guards, pack animals, food, water and a guide. If they passed through hostile land they would have to pay off the owner.

We quibble about who's right and who's wrong, and miss the whole reason, the astounding significance, of the revolutionary arrival.

There is no description of the ‘Magi’[A], in the Gospel of Matthew (the only one of the four Gospels to even mention them) other than that they were ‘from the east’ and that they were following a Star in the East that they thought signified the birth of a new King. We are not given how long they traveled, their nationalities, or even how many there were.
      According to the Bible-dictionary.org:
“In the Gospel of St. Matthew, ch. (Matthew 2:1-12) the Magi appear as "wise men"-properly Magians-who were guided by a star from "the east" to Jerusalem, where they suddenly appeared in the days of Herod the Great, inquiring for the new-born king of the Jews, whom they had come to worship. As to the country from which they came, opinions vary greatly; but their following the guidance of a star seems to point to the banks of the Tigris and Euphrates, where astronomy was Cultivated by the Chaldeans.”
The orator, herself, said that they were probably Jews whom lived in Babylon; which was east of Bethlehem and Jerusalem.
So I’d like to know where he gets the Idea that they would have been “priests of the Persian prophet Zoroaster”
      A. Some translations render it ‘mages’ or ‘wise men’

+Jordan Cutright The scripture in Isaiah is referring to the time period of Isaiah when Gentiles came to worship the king of Judah (Isaiah's time period), but she is saying that the wise men after reading this saw a future fulfillment, and choose to come bearing gifts of incense and gold. In other words the scripture has dual fulfillment. Once at the time of Isaiah with gentiles worshiping the king of Judah, and another when most likely Jewish exiles came to worship Christ. Also, many early Christians interpreted this verse to mean that the wise men were gentiles. We really don't know if the wise men were gentiles or Jews, but it is very likely they were Jews. Hope that makes help...

If they were so literate in the scriptures, why did they not get that it was Bethlehem? The pharisees had to tell them at the palace of Herod. I believe, they weren't Jewish but for some reason they knew that the star (astrology) was somehow telling about an important king. Otherwise nobody would walk this far and long to worship that king. They also quite reasonably would not habe travelled alone but with a whole caravan I believe. That is why all of Jerusalem noticed their arrival. To me they're still a mystery but I love the symbolism of their gifts and I love their sincere hearts. There's a lot to take from this story.

We do NOT decorate our homes and churches with the Christmas three because of Isaiah, but because we borrowed an old pagan tradition. Read more about it. Though Isaiah have mentioned those wood species, the vast majority of Christians have no idea about it.

Maybe this was asked but I couldn’t check every comment. I was engaged in the answer until you said it took 2 years to arrive or traveled 2 years via camels. But from where you said they traveled from it would only take 2-6 weeks. They must have come from way farther out but had Jewish ties. Any insights on the travel time?

Beginning at 0:48, Mrs. Rebecca Holt Stay correctly states that of the jews taken into captivity to Babylon, most never returned, and that Babylon was a center of learning for the jews. But then at 1:02 she says “That’s where the wise men came from,” which is a personal hypothesis unsupported either by scripture or secular history. She should have qualified it as such--a personal hypothesis-rather than stating it as though it were fact. Then at 1:27 she says, “If you’re coming to worship the king of the jews, odds are you are jewish...” This is an uneducated statement. She then goes on to say, “...and you’re reading about him in a jewish book...” An equally unsupported hypothesis. There was nothing “jewish” about the ancient Persians, but it was the non-jewish Persians (Cyrus, specifically) who freed the jews from captivity and who built the Second Temple for them in Jerusalem. The jews were incapable of doing either. Well before 1,000 BC the Persian prophet Zoroaster prophesied, centuries before Isaiah, the coming of a “savior” who would be “born of a virgin.” Moreover, ancient Chinese writings of the Han dynasty, 5 BC, chronicle a brilliant comet lasting for seventy (70) days. There were very wise men in Persia and China.

The magi from the east were from the same order in which the prophet Daniel belonged to. Remember that in Babylon during the time of captivity, Daniel rose to become the chief magus of the king's court. He also prophesied the exact timing of the coming of the Messiah (Daniel 9:25-27) and counted how many years still to come. After the captivity, Daniel was one of the Jews who remained behind. I think we can safely deduce that he continued the order and passed on the secret of when is the Messiah coming in Jerusalem and instructed the next generations of magi to prepare for it and go to Jerusalem when the time has come. So the worship and homage that the magi from the east gave to Jesus was indirectly came from the prophet Daniel.

The book of Isaiah is a prophetic book about the millennial kingdom of Yahusha Jesus when Israel is lifted up from among all nations. You can’t just lift snippets of verses from it and allude it to the birth of the Messiah. You have to read the whole chapter (60:1-22) to understand that Isaiah did not write it for his time, or to prophesy the birth of Jesus. He was talking about the regathering of Israel. All the verses are intertwined with each other that chopping it up or going back and forth will totally confuse whoever is watching the video.

There could have been 300 wise men. I like to think of them, filled with the wisdom of Persia and Babylon, with Chaldean astronomy still preserved on clay tablets. In the Islamic world guided tour at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan there is an ancient astrolabe. It has disks for each major Mideast city, which show how to navigate across the desert using the stars to each city. The bones of prehistoric camels have been found in the arctic. They were huge, though of course, long gone before the magi.

    • @messagesofChrist
      @messagesofChrist  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It actually does not say Jesus was 2 years old. It only says that Herod killed all the babies that were two years and under. That could mean that Jesus was two, but it also more likely means that Herod was just being careful to kill any child under a certain age to make sure he got the child. And, if you study more about the age of Herod, you would also know that if Jesus was two, Herod would already be dead according to the Gospels and their account of Tiberius Caesar and John starting his ministry 30 years later. Jesus simply had to be younger than two, as Herod died in 4 BC.

The other statement reads: the dromedaries of Midian, Ephah, all they from Sheba shall come. The named countries are actually the origins of dromedaries, which indeed originated there. They have nothing to do with any of the wise men being black or from Sheba or from Midian or Ephah. The camels are the running camels literally, able to cover great distances. I wonder if you heard yourself talking in this video, please, watch a replay. I am not-native English speaker and even to me the interpretation of the statements is very clear.
