I wish people would stop saying a particular guitarist is “underrated”. Dimartini is not underrated. He’s not overrated either. He got the recognition he deserved. His playing is equal to whatever his net worth is. He’s a millionaire. He got correctly compensated for his talent. If he was any better or wrote better music, he would’ve gotten paid more. But he didn’t. I think being a millionaire, playing the music he liked, and never having to work a regular job is pretty successful, don’t you?
along with a couple choice King's X riffs...and rightfully so given that in the timeline imho Ty is the copyright owner of drop-D in the hard rock universe. But yeah this is a killer and maybe the best.
I NEVER comment on videos but this time I must. AWESOME! I grew up in San Diego during the same time period where Warren DeMartini was attending high school back in the late 70's. I still live in the area. I have no connection to him or the band but I do remember my friends mentioning the band, and their emergence, and LOVING their music. And I DID have at least two of their albums. And I have a few of their songs on my iPhone. LOVE the riffs, especially the ones in this song, "Lack of Communication", "Wanted Man", "You're in Love", among others. You play this VERY well. Congratulations on your attaining your skill level and THANK YOU for putting in all the work to learn this song. I would love to learn this song but my gnarled fingers won't cooperate any longer. I don't know who you are but keep up the GREAT work! I am grateful. 🤘🏼
Back in the early 80s when I was learning this song and playing it with my band (I was only about 13 or 14 years old... very good for my age at that time, but not as good as this guy!) the version I came up with was not this accurate. I would have crawled over broken glass to have this video back then. People today learning this stuff don't know the struggles we had back then. Good tabs and transcriptions at the music stores were few and far between, and even the best ones had a lot of inaccuracies. I must have listened to this 300 times trying to get it as accurate as I could. People today don't know the struggles we had back then!
Oh man for suuuuuurrreee!!! TH-cam changed everything... wolf marshal was the man but other then his books there was little else to use. Try and figure it out by ear with mixed results. Today's players are very fortunate to be ble to have masters giving tutorials for free
This was a hard riff to learn back in the day. In 85, I specifically got front row tickets in front of Warren so I could see how he played this and Round and Round.
Yeah in the 90’s there was all the guitar based magazines that we bought. And the different books, some for entire albums. Tremendous. Not to mention all the vhs dubbing of videos of our favorite guitarists too.
Besides you having an Eddie Van Halen Frankenstein, I can tell you are a Van Halen fan by the way you finished the song. I'm a 42 year old 80's rock fan. Van Halen was my favorite group and Ratt was one of my secondary favorites. I really enjoyed your video! Outstanding job!!!!
Still amazes me how Motley achieved their level of fame without nearly the same category of quality material/musicians as Ratt, who by contrast, never achieved Motley's worldwide, legendary status.
@@guitarizt68 Always gotta be that 1 idiot who brings up Motley when on a RATT video . Ratt was good at what they did & Motley were good at what they did . Leave it at that
Your tone and playing is incredible.....flawless as well! You need to install a chrome D-Tuna on that Frankie's Floyd Rose!?!? I'm really diggin' mine on my black Jackson Robbin Crosby Signature Firebird. It has the backwards logo on the headstock too, just like Robbin's did. RIP Robbin Crosby!
Technically, the most accurate cover of the song on TH-cam. He doesn't miss one single note, and his guitar setup sounds exactly the way Warren's setup sounded. The best on TH-cam!
It's certainly a great rendition, but I wouldn't consider it anywhere close to being "technically, the most accurate". He did, indeed, miss parts and also added things which are a byproduct of phantom sounds. Additionally, at times, his rhythm was off. Great? Yes. Technically sound? Nope.
Technically, Who gives a 💩, It sounded awesome... And took me back to 1985, the year I graduated high school... I remembered how we all waited to see the premier of the video on MTV... Ratt NEVER disappointed...
@@guitarizt68 I agree. This rendition is awesome but my ears tell me that the notes were too high starting at 43 seconds. I don't play guitar and I have no room to talk but I can't help but notice subtle differences. I am highly impressed and loved it though.
Excellent. The main riff is one of the reasons this is one of my favorite Ratt songs. Every time I hear it, the riff is stuck my head until I can pick up a guitar and play it. Thanks for sharing this was a great cover.
Umm , no , warren knew lynch very well back then, and copied George. My old singer toured with lynch mob as singer. I'm old enough to know all this the first time around. In Hollywood
I imagine there is an older gentleman and his wife sitting at their table patiently waiting for their order to be taken. They give each other confused looks as they sit there watching our talented friend lay down some tasty licks. The husband starts to get agitated as he notices his wife starts to tap her foot and sway her head to the music. Our guitar hero plays on totally lost in the moment.
You can rework it without the A string - the drop-D fills in that space most of the time. If you pedal the low D consistently, the A string notes (D and E) aren't really missed ... not saying it's legit but it can get you 90% of the way there which should be enough to impress your friends :-)
This is actually the BEST rendition I"ve ever seen (including mine).... I always wondered about the chord just before the solo... I play it a little differently... it's hard to tell exactly what's goinon
simply amazing. great job SATSUMA, but what he also does here, is demonstrate clearly that Warren DiMartini was one of the coolest rhythm players in LA and one of the most dynamic lead players to come out of the 80's. this entire style and tone was what Ed Van Halen, DiMartini and Jake E. Lee were all about. those three players define 80's metal for me, and it's fucking amazing to see someone like SATSUMA play this kind of rock as well as they did!
Absolutely awesome. I love how dominated that solo. You took your time and incorporated all the heart and styling of the original solo. Will definitely be checking out some more of your covers.
I like how he’s playing in a restaurant somewhere.
o.o Haven't noticed until I read your comment haha
Warren DiMartini was a vastly underrated guitarist in my opinion. Definitely one of the best in the 80s hair metal days for sure.
