  • Chrysler's finest offering in 1966: The Imperial LeBaron. She's showing her age, but still unmistakably elegant.
    Sleek, powerful, and beautiful.

      At LEAST, a person COULD "tinker" here! NOW, all we have is "high-tech" CRAP!

    Chrysler bought the tilt/tele columns from GM until the late '60's I believe. Nicely equipped. I had a '67 LeBaron that had dual A/C with auto temp (first year option), leather NO AM/FM radio either. I don't know why people would order such and expensive car and not check the box for AM/FM. My dual AC worked great in Phoenix, even at 118 degrees on the freeways, ICE COLD. I am looking forward to your next video.

      I think it was until the '70s; I had a '74 Dodge that had a GM column as well.
      More videos of the LeBaron will come once the weather takes a turn for the better.

      Well, these were GOOD cars, but NOT Imperials! I owned both, and "glorified" New Yorkers WERE MUCH BETTER than "fat LTD's" (aka "Lincolns") or OVERSOLD Buick Park Avenues or Oldsmobile 98s (aka "Cadillacs")! Marketing IS everything!

    The 1965 is much nicer in design.....rear truck lid is plain compaired to the 65......also the front grill is more attractive on the 65.....only plus for the 66 is engine went to a 440 and the rear tail lights were made with more lights..... I owned a 65, I know the Imperial......64-65-66 were my favorites

      I don't anticipate ever selling this car; but, they say all men have their price. I have no idea what it would take to get me to part with this car, though.

    If they bought the column & Autronic Eye from Cadillac, they probably bought the thermometer speedometer from Ford, ala the '64 T-Bird. I suppose it could be from Buick or Olds, it's impossible to tell without seeing the "action".

    • @DraculasCars
      @DraculasCars  ปีที่แล้ว

      Chrysler had been using it in the '50s on the Dodge line, so it's likely an in-house design since it was standard equipment. The column and dimmer were both optional and sold in far lower numbers.

    I dig the car and good narration...maybe a five minute tidy up before filming?

      I drive this car daily; with a major storm looming, it would have been futile.

    Imperial Didn't barrow anything from GM my 61 has the same stuff at least you could've done is wash the damn car and clean the inside .

    • @DraculasCars
      @DraculasCars  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The steering column is from GM for those equipped with tilt/telescoping in 1966; the first year of the option.
      And, yes, they did borrow from GM. The automatic headlight dimmer was used under lease as well.

    • @bradhardy2629
      @bradhardy2629 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DraculasCars No wonder why it never worked right . Yep I guess the 61 doesn't have it . Now wash your damn car and try cleaning it once a year .

    • @DraculasCars
      @DraculasCars  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I should have specified that the GM column was a 1966 and up specific thing; Chrysler would use GM columns for tilt/telescoping up through the '70s instead of their own. Lincoln also used the same headlight dimmer under license in the '60s.
      The car will be detailed/buffed as soon as the temperature drops; until the AC is in working order, with minimally-functioning windows, it's too hot to drive in triple-digit heat. The headliner also needs to be replaced.

      lovely car - just a suggestion - hire a videographer to handle the camera while you describe the various features - the erratic camera movement was giving me a headache - never realized the difference in the 65-66 deck lid design - Chrysler Corporation was a pioneer of air conditioning technology and advancements including the dual options for Imperial and C body station wagons - the dual ceiling mounted units in the station wagons were expensive but effective - never understood why GM and Ford never offered a dual unit option

      His was a '65 LeBaron in Sequoia Green Metallic with a black vinyl top; the vinyl top being one of the few options mine, thankfully, doesn't have.
