    • @DDA40Xman
      @DDA40Xman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Trading in for a newer vehicle was never a money making proposition so there isn't a true "loss" since there is NEVER a gain (I'm a daily stock trader). It's trading in for the new features like the refreshed engine (see Gail Banks video on why this makes sense), the new camera package, and the interior upgrades. The 2 mpg gain helps offset the cost of hauling a fifth wheel all over the country.

      these guys have hard-ons for diesel; That's pretty much all they review. When they do review gas they fail to mention that a diesel is 10K more, fuel is more expensive. its 10K more to register, which is big in some states. There's another review where someone shows that the cost of ownership for a diesel is about 500.00 better than gas per year given the added fuel cost and maintenance of the diesel. with that said a diesel owner would have to keep the truck 18 years to make a diesel a better buy. That wasn't taking into account the added 10K in tax and registration. Long story short Diesels are way more expensive to own. As for the "they hold their value better", that's also a facade....they cost 10K more, therefore they should have a better resale by that 10K bloated price tag.

    Great video, and awesome mileage. I would love to see the MPG degradation vs towing. You guys should think about buying a used travel trailer so you can compare with and without towing a real RV. Your tow simulations are usually using a construction trailer or horse trailer with water tanks, which mimics weight but not the wind resistance you get when tow a big box RV. A 28' used trailer at about 5k lbs unloaded would do it (Keystone Bullet, etc.). RV Trader will show what you can buy locally. A couple years old wouldn't cost all that much. Something to think about. Thanks again, love these videos!

    • @andyharman3022
      @andyharman3022 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been thinking somewhat the same thing. They need to do travel trailers to get the effect of aero drag on the large frontal area, and to experience directional instability of crosswinds, and of passing semis. I transport travel trailers for money, and the typical ball hitch that I tow is 8 ft wide x 11 ft high, 27 ft long, 7000 pounds. Fifth Wheels are typically 8.5 ft wide x 12 feet tall, but I tend to get better fuel economy with them than I do ball hitches. Fifth Wheels are also a lot more stable in crosswind conditions.

      Geoff Moore well my payload rating is around 1200 lbs. Me, the wife and kids, and things in the bed total about 500-600 pounds. My trailer weighs 5500 pounds with a tongue weight of 600 pounds. That makes a total payload of 1100-1200 lbs. maxed out. As my kids get older I’ll either have to carry less stuff, load up the rear of the trailer (which can lead to unstable towing conditions) or upgrade to an HD truck.

I travel a lot and almost every vehicle in Europe has it and we're wanting higher MPG, sitting at idle at a light doesn't help fuel economy and that's where most vehicles will see an improvement in MPG by using Start/Stop. Now HD trucks on the other hand may not see Start/Stop for a while, but that's because we tend to use them differently.
