Hi Olivia and Danny, I had a 1967 Cuda it came from Grand Spaulding Dodge in Chicago. Was a 340 6 pack 4 speed car. I ran it once at US30 in Indiana and it ran 12.6 with street tires. The earth quake took out a bridge in your area.
Yeah, guys, the rings will move and occasionally line up. That's why a cylinder breakdown test that is a few pounds lower isn't a big cause for concern. Run the engine for a bit and recheck and it will go away You want a light spring on the valve, for testing, because you want a true measurement without pushrod deflection. You should check valve clearance with a gasket and everything torqued. But, add the thickness of the head gasket, and you should be ok. For valvetrain geometry measurements for ordering pushrods, torque the heads with the gaskets.
You can check PTV with the degree wheel 10 degrees before and 10 degrees after with a dial indicator at the top of the cvalve and the low tension springs installed also a 4.350 tapered ring compressor will make piston install much simpler. I couldn't tell if you install the oil slinger on the snout behing the timing cover it helps. Oil pan studs are the best way to put on that oil pan with a windage tray and last use the balancer to center that timing cover then bolt it down. Hope this helps
I had a new 69 Charger with the same 383 as Barbara Barracuda. It was Chrysler Bright Red with 3:55 Perform Axyl Package and 4 Speed. Loved everything except 4 Speed on long drives. I hope you two do the 6 Speed Manual! My vote is for Chrysler Bright Red with very little Orange in it and Black interior.
Always liked the hammered look body paint. That in Black Satin on this build would in my opinion look killer because its NOT a show car and helps hide some imperfections. Add some chrome exhaust tips. And do the Engine Mopar Orange instead of blue . With your Wheels and Tires. I think she'd look the part
i just checked and i read there was one centered near el centro with several after shocks. when i lived in riverside calif back in 1968 one was centered near salton sea in april 1968. it was a 6.6 mag. felt as afar as 600 miles away. i was in riverside in my home, walls started moving , light in ceiling swaying, telaphone polls were sawing outside now this was over 100 miles fron the center. lived in florida with major hurricans and ill take an earth quake any day to a hurrican, love the engine build your doing. ufta! that BIG BLOCK makes that carb look small
if the ring slots are lined up it will oil and compression will be down .plastic gauge is used to check that valve to piston clearance and bearing clearance , not cookies .
Most Pistons have instructions for you on ring placement on the Pistons, but generally staggering the rings is fine, and yes they will spin in the grooves.
Good catch team on the head gaskets hanging over into the cylinder volume. I blew both head gaskets and 2 pistons on my Mopar 340 doing a 'Legendary' burnout....lol. Many a slip twixt a cup and a lip. We have a full roller engine now !
Getting Barbara primed up, love it! Sorry to hear of the earthquake, I've never felt one, hope all is ok there. "Stop looking at my cylinder heads" 😂 Danny, glad you are a wizard at making modifications/adjustments, the Mopar was putting up a fight. For paint color, go with your gut feeling and what you both like, don't go off our pick, lol. I was liking the black with some kind of gold highlights or vice versa gold with black highlights (maybe subtle hidden flames, I know Danny is not a fan), but something that matches your Gnarly logo? That's an awesome looking big block Mopar! Look forward to the first start up!
Josh from Japan again. I watched this engine build yesterday. At the end of the video, you guys started talking about Barbara the Barracuda. So That's her name. I thought, what is her nickname? Then what popped in my head was "Barbarra" like the Barbarians. Then get some to draw up a sticker to put on her. A mighty barbarian she-ra holding an oversized club above her head about the bludgeon a beaten-down Viking Barbie. Anyway, good job on that 512 stroker. Can't wait till you release the new improved "Barbarra" vid. Lol. My brain wonders into weird places sometimes. But fun. Keep up the good work guys. J-f-J
love watching ya'll. As far as color, you could have the best of both worlds and do a flat black hood and then a solid body color. Plumb crazy purple perhaps :) Yellow, orange red. Id think green would look awesome as well, but you already have Barbara. You could ask your subscribers to vote. Regardless, thanks for the content. Love watching your channel.
I would have sent that timing cover back it was just too far off. When you install the timing cover leave the timing cover bolts really loose and install the harmonic balancer on to center the seal and then I would have tightened the oil pan to try and flatten that surface. Then tighten the timimg cover. LS motors are like that.
Olivia and Danny Black is the way to go. You guy’s make it like the Fast and Furious Charger. Love it. No matter what you decide. Thanks for sharing! 💯👍👊
I like the Mopar dark green ì was never into green and ive painted ìn the automotive world sense 1977 at my first dealership I was the youngest painter at a dealership I went to work at a chevy dealership at 16 years old I had a 72 nova that was green and the same week I bought it I sanded all down and pried it 80s red oxide primer and drove it like that for 2 years then painted it code 10 corvette white lacquer in the sun it would blind you. Lol now I think that green is so nice looking and if I could fined another Nova I'd paint it green before any other color it would be hard because maroon is my favorite color I have a 88 monte carlo SS big block 427 car that is black but most of the monte Carlos I see are black so I'll be painting it maroon or charcoal gray. I love the 512 build I thought Olivia was going to give us the cam specs on the 512 😮 I hope yall have a great weekend
I thought of a great color for your 68 Charger. Are you familiar with the old 1960s butternut yellow color. It's like a toned down yellowish creamy white color and it is gorgeous on chargers.
The video before this was taken off so fast I couldnt finish watching the video. Not complaining Im just suggesting you maybe keep the videos up for a day so everyone can watch. The 512 looks awesome and Im sure it will run perfect. I would paint the engine traditional MOPAR Colors BTW. It will look right with any color. Regards from Ody Slim
Okay okay paint the motor block black goes with any color car paint the car the factory Orange put a flattening agent in the paint remain with the Sinister look but with some color😊
Ring spacing? You would really know the next time you take the pistons out during a "re-build if they are still clocked the same.Whats wrong with spacing them out?Doesn`t really take any longer,I know that push rods spin while engine is running.
Dark metallic charcoal …..graphite color……you can make a ghetto engine run stand out of a $50 storage cradle….i have a short video of one i put together a few years back for a LS i put in my c/10
Paint the Charger to match the beautiful purple toolbox. Every purple Charger I've seen looks amazing. Then you can paint the engine orange, which is a complimentary color to purple.
You guys are living the dream for sure! California, a speed shop, and two of the coolest youtubers! I love this channel!
Use a brass hammer when installing dowel pins
I was a 440 Mopar kinda guy in Hi school, mid 70s. Sure brings back a lot of memories seeing this project come together 🤩. Thanks 👍 for sharing guys.

yea bought some parts from mr. norm , headers for my 1966 dodge coronet 383 . also bought 4.10 pumpkin for my 8 3/4 .

Looking forward to the 440 fire up and hearing that 383 Barracuda talk!
That Cuda are soooo beautiful...My alltime favoritecar...😍

Great job on the engine rebuild

If know one has suggested. You can use the alcohol fuel inlet pump diaphragm. They’re made with a Green material. They do last longer…New sub😎👍🏻
That's a great looking engine, can't wait till you fire it up!
Take comfort in restoring the Charger, the important thing is that the result is excellent
😙

That is a SWEET looking Barracuda.
Color of car, Surfers Color, Malibu blue with a hand painted mural, big waves and Surfers riding em, SURFS UP!!!!!!

22:32 I think Olivia should have to say "Press my cookie" every episode :)
Getting Barbara primed up, love it!

❤Paint it Orange! I think it would look really cool. RW
Aluminum piece goes on the bottom to align the spring, put the spring on then your retainer and locks
Happy a great Valentine's you too
I don't know if any of the head bolts go.into water jackets but the ARP assembly will not stop water passing by.
Awesome video! I think lemon twist would make that Charger pop perfectly! Black would be too blah
Acid brushes sure help with applying lube, etc. Cheap, and throw away. Fun video. I'm doing a 400 based 512, and boy, do the dollars add up.
Yes the rings spin when the engine is running
Love the block💪 thanks for sharing ✌️candy Apple red or cherry dark red looks awesome on the dodge🫶
Hi olivia and Danny u 2 are awesome really enjoy your channel
Wow this engine will bang big.

You guys rocked it tonight! Engine looks awesome and FAST! If UPS had a Slayer to deliver packages in they would never be late! 😊
Danny! I think the header is in 2 sections to get past the steering linkages
I've heard they work their way around in the ring groove.
That big block looks KILLER! Also a black Charger is never a wrong answer.
The two pushrod styles are ball & cup.
I would paint the color of the car the original green but what ever you do will be great!

Check the paint code on the fender never anything bad about original colors
Yes space the rings 180. There is friction. They do not spin.
You have some nice cars❤
I think painting the block with cast blast would compliment the variety of aluminum finishes…
Olivia and Danny Black is the way to go. You guy’s make it like the Fast and Furious Charger. Love it. No matter what you decide. Thanks for sharing!
💯👍👊
I usually use brownies when I do my piston to valve measurements. lol.

You're missing the two bars that hold the intake valley tray pan down.
The right shade of gray with red/black accents/ decals would be kind of different. I’m sure you guys will decide on a color that you both like.
I think a great place to start looking for a color would be considering the original Mopar colors, then go from there 🤔
Did you guys see the Black Cherry Charger that Kount Kustoms made? Beautiful Color
Could hear a needle drop 😅 See it as a good thing you had to adjust so many things, now you know it goes together well!
I'm looking at my Gnarly Speed Shop Sticker which easily provided a suggestion idea for the Charger color...How about Gold with Black Racing Stripes.
I think green with black accents would be a good look for the charger. You could call it the hulk or the green hornet. Just a thought.
Lookin’ good!!👍👍
Why is there so much variance in the oil pan and the timing cover?
Is it the variations in aftermarket stuff that is the issue?
That green car in the corner needs a holley sniper unit that way you can fire it up any time and drive
Where Did You Get The VALVE COVERS ???
black with dark purple mixed in.
Nice job. I think antique white😮 with a mopar orange engine. 😂
Damn I missed the stream again 😢😢and my suggestion for paint is Dennis’s blue 68 Charger in the Christine movie 👍🍻
Piant it plum crazy purple!!!❤❤❤
I like watching you to Great job

Does the cookie dough help set the valve lash?
Who Made Those Valve Covers ??
Did you pre lube crank bearings
How do you degree a cam without any pistons installed???
How do you guys find all these awesome classic cars?
looks good may sound good but the Important thing is how much power maybe 400 HP
I'd say 625hp.
I dought it makes that much would like to know how much HP it makes anyone can guess
Okay okay paint the motor block black goes with any color car paint the car the factory Orange put a flattening agent in the paint remain with the Sinister look but with some color😊

Awesome
What about a dark green on black . ❤
nicks garage in montreal is a great go to mopar builds he build monster motors mopar
Remove the pins ADD THE BALANCER add the bolts.
So simple, yet flawless method.
A 440 Source 512 kit is only 512 at .060 over, your .030 so it's a 505
Dark metallic charcoal …..graphite color……you can make a ghetto engine run stand out of a $50 storage cradle….i have a short video of one i put together a few years back for a LS i put in my c/10
Black is like wearing a tuxedo.. just hard to keep clean. A blue painted block will stand out..
Rings will rotate
Paint the Charger to match the beautiful purple toolbox. Every purple Charger I've seen looks amazing. Then you can paint the engine orange, which is a complimentary color to purple.
very cool
Paint the Charger Red!!!
DID THE CHARGER EVER GET DONE
WHERE are you guys?? I cant find you on anything new...
Its basically a big sb chevy.
Who cares what people have to say paint it a satin hot rod black 💪🏼. Or a satin rust red will look awesome 😎

camo paint job
I turned down a 100k offer for my cheap satin black painted '68 Charger. 👍
